Common Questions and Answers about Effexor and dizziness

effexor

Avatar f tn For years I took Wellbutrin, then my stress level changed, so a therapist recommended Effexor. I have taken the Effexor for about a year and it really helped. Now my stress level is not as bad, so I wanted to return to the Wellbutrin. I called my PCP, who prescibed both (at different times). He said I could go from the Effexor back to the Wellbutrin, but with no program for doing it. Unfortunately, he is not a psyschiatrist. Last Friday I completely stopped the Effexor (75 mg.
Avatar f tn Today is day 3 with no meds and today I started to experience extreme dizziness. It feels as though i have spun and spun and then suddenly stopped. Like my brain and eyes are trying to catch up. I did not have any of these symptoms with my first pregnancy so I can't directly relate it to just pregnancy. Has anyone else taken or stopped taking effexor while pregnant? Please help!
Avatar f tn I had an MRI and it is normal. I have seen and ENT and they said it is not my ears. This has to be related to stopping effexor, as I never had a problem prior or during. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I was on effexor 75 mg for almost 7 months. Now that I am pregnant, my doctor stopped the effexor gradually and it is been now 5 days that I stopped completely the effexor. I have bad withdrawl symptoms. like anxiety, I cannot sleep at night, mood swings, dizziness, and i cannot sleep at night. can I switch to prozac ?. my doctor's opinion not to take any anti-deppresants medications for at least the first 3 months of pregnancy are completed.
Avatar f tn I am trying to train for a 5K which I used to do 6 years ago before effexor. I find myself having more bad training sessions than good. I have been experiencing dizziness with a heavinress or tightness in the chest. Pulse is normally low in the 50s but does manage to get into the low 60s with training. Blood pressure remains unchanged. No arm or jaw pain, but I really feel like I can not catch enough oxygen and I may pass out.
Avatar m tn I had a change of shift and forgot to take my Effexor 150 XR and the next day I was so dizzy and I was nauseous that I was afraid to take it I stayed home from work and every thime I moved I got dizzy and it seemed to be getting worse. When I didn't throw up that day I took the Effexor the next morning still feeling dizzy, slugish and such after a couple of hours all the symptoms went away.
Avatar f tn My sister was sitting there using the computer and I was not shocked by the computer, it was a brain thing that happened, and after it did I was dizzy for a few min. This weird stuff and more has been since stopping effexor after being on it 11 years. The thing is, I stopped it 15 months ago, so am not sure if it is related to that but doctors are stumpped and MRI is normal. ANyone ever heard of any of this?
1331182 tn?1275475604 The doc said to basically make a clean switch to prozac, for example Tuesday take last dose of effexor and Wednesday take Prozac. I have read and read and read everything I could find about tapering and withdrawal. I have NOT read one thing about anyone just quitting effexor and being okay. It is because of the short half life of the drug, meaning it is out of your system the next day. Prozac takes 5 weeks to get out of your system which is why there are no withdrawals.
Avatar f tn You need to reduce the dose gradually to avoid physical withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, being sick, sleeplessness and nervousness. If you currently have the 75mg tablets ask your doctor for the 37.5mg tablets so you can gradually reduce to 75mg per day, then 37.5mg per day before stopping. Eloise.
Avatar n tn Hi all! I just started back up on Prozac about three weeks ago now. Come to think of it, it has been 22 days. For the past 22 days, I have been having some awful dizzy spells. When I say dizzy, I don't mean lightheaded or faint. I mean it literally feels like the world is moving when it's not. Anyway, has anyone else experienced this? And if so how long did it take for it to pass? I experienced this with Effexor, previously, and it took exactly one month for it to pass.
Avatar f tn I am new here and was wondering if anyone has experienced dizziness weaning themselves off of medications for depression...I hate being so dependant on having to take something just to help myself feel normal each day...no it isnt under doctors orders, but I have been taking effexxor for over 4 years now, and I just cant afford the medication anymore...
Avatar m tn Friends: I'm trying to withdraw from Efferor---225 mg but I'm having dizziness--stopped it 2 days ago because of headaches. Seeing my doc tomorrow. Has anyone had similar experiences?
Avatar m tn I am sure most of you reading this have heard of the brain zaps, and the awkward dizziness which accompany the withdrawal of this medication. I have treid dramamine which actually really helps, but was wondering if anyone has any alternative solutins for these symptons.
Avatar f tn I have posted here before about Lexapro pooping out after 10 years...bummer! I suffer from pretty bad gad and panic. My psychiatrist basically refused to put me on another SSRI and insisted on Effexor. I find Effexor too stimulating. I didn't care for this doc from the jump and have now found a new one. New doc says Effexor is a good drug for very depressed people but not for primary anxiety. She is taking me off Effexor 75 mg and onto Zoloft. I have only been on Effexor 6 1/2 weeks.
Avatar n tn these are just different symptoms than before. i was on Effexor which helped and i stopped bc we got pregers and had a baby and exactly 2 mths after she was born is when all this stuff started happening (around Nov '07). these new symptoms just have made things a lot more complicated. Neurologist thinks i have migraines, but honestly i think i am doing a lot of this to myself.
603543 tn?1255294450 The drs just keep switching her meds, I think she needs to go back to effexor and get stablized and then taper off....Anyone know the right treatment? Shes wasting away and isnt herself and is so miserable, shes only 66....HELP!!!!?!??
Avatar f tn My doc said to drink ice water and walk to bring my blood pressure up and rest will usually help you if its high. Good luck and stay calm and breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth, it will help your crying and anger to calm. Talk to your Doc ASAP about your blood pressure though.
Avatar m tn HI Marcio and thanks so much for posting this great question! Feel free to post this question in any other forum related with Neurology or Psychiatry they may be able to help you as well. First I want to congratulate you first for taking exercise so seriously since it is a great signal for a healthy lifestyle. Effexor and Effexor SR are approved to treat depression, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
Avatar n tn I went off of effexor recently and it caused all types of symptoms. I was feeling like I could not catch my breath, heart was racing, nausea, dizziness, and very thirsty. I felt like I was having a heart attack. Everyone has different withdrawl symptoms and some may not have any. Once I was done weaning off of the drug the symptoms decreased and finally went away completely. I have been totally off of the meds for 2 1/2 weeks and feel wonderful.
Avatar m tn you may do great with effexor, some people do. i took it for 5 years and it made me even more tired and i had alot of side effects from it. everyone is different though. you'll probably get more comments from people who have taken effexor. take care.
1910757 tn?1348683319 We all react differently to meds, so it is hard to say whether the dizziness and tiredness is due to the anti-depressant. I myself am on 150mg Effexor daily, and do not have those side effects. In your case it may settle down when you have been on the meds a while.
4753943 tn?1359934569 I want to know if I should still expect the intense Effexor withdrawal symptoms such as brain zapping, nausea, dizziness, and crying spells. Any advice would greatly help. I want to know what I'm getting myself in to!
Avatar f tn I have been on effexor for years and don't feel the least spacy or lost, just normal.
Avatar f tn Could this possibly be the problem? Can Effexor still be impacting my life a year and a half after withdrawal? From July 2006 to December 2006 I went through a slow and difficult withdrawal from Effexor 37.5, after being on Effexor for about 10 years or so. I initially went on it just due to depression over a bad job situation; I ended up staying on it because I felt so lousy every time I tried to quite. Finally, I used the program and supplements from theroadback.
Avatar f tn I have heard of people suffering from brain zaps and I know i experience them when I forget to take my Effexor. I also just feel unwell and edgy. Hopefully you tapered down to that and maybe you won't experience anything else. Please let me know.
