The yogurt gives you and extra amount of protein, plus calcium, vitamin B12, etc. You can also use sugar free jello and pudding to flavor your smoothies, so you won't have so much sugar from the fruit. I have some really good recipes, if you're interested.

I kicked the Advair habit because it was killing me (literally). Anyway, I breathe much better with the natural stuff. (The only prescription drug I have not been able to give up is albuterol.) Since we are into ages - I am 80.

My BG levels had crept up to 150 and I had started eating these low carb high protein bars as snacks. Once I stopped eating those my BG levels came down to the 130's. I have since reduce protein amounts and I'm seeing fasting numbers in the 120 and under range. Any one else experience higher BG levels with too much protein?

Avatar f tn You can get protein fr a lot of different sources than just a protein shake. Beans, Greek yogurt, cheese, almond milk, etc. be careful w too many protein shakes bcuz of added unnecessary calories & too many protein shakes/bars can make you constipated.

If the protein supplement you're taking is just whey and nothing else, then you have no problem. If it's added tryptophan, then it's not okay. Tryptophan is the amino acid that builds serotonin in the body, although it's not easy getting it to the brain.

Avatar f tn I'm a little confused -- you say you want more protein. Is this a body building thing, because there are a lot of vegetarian foods high in protein. Brown rice powder isn't one of them -- brown rice protein is, but that's protein isolated from brown rice, whereas hemp powder is just powdered hemp, which as a seed will have some protein but is mostly nutritious for its omega 3 fatty acids. But all nuts are high in protein, as are all beans.

Some protein powders are low on all of these contaminants, but this study only looked at 134 protein powders and my current protein powder isn't one of the ones tested - its main source of protein in whey concentrate.
