Common Questions and Answers about Effects of smoking with asthma

smoking

975514 tn?1324997938 I have had a rather bad case of asthma since I was in my teens. I also started smoking when I was 11 years old and smoked for about 15 years until a severe asthma attack caused me to become bed ridden for a week and scared me enough to quit cold turkey. I was smoke free for almost three years, but right before my wedding I started up again (my fiance smoked). Months after the wedding, my husband's father died of emphysema due to smoking most likely.
Avatar f tn Square one, in my opinion, was a woman (probably with a history of asthma) complaining of coughing in the presence of her husband who had taken up smoking. All conditions have the potential to be influenced and affected by emotional stress. If you were to suggest that my cancer was due to a conditioned response I would feel equally outraged. I'm lost on the physiological conditioning because aren't what we talking about physiological responses to psychological conditioning?
5887938 tn?1376115720 And just one more tiny point here, if your body is addicted and you cant stop smoking with a snap of finger, dont you think its unfair to make a newborn go threw that? Because once that baby is off your blood supply itll go threw withdrawl at only a couple hours old. And anyone can try and find a defense to that but point is if baby is eating what your eating and getting all its nutrient from ur body.....then its getting all the junk too.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I just don't understand how I developed asthma suddenly as an adult
Avatar f tn There hasnt been a study on the effects of weed on the human body since the 1930s when it was illegalized. And to top it all off it wasnt illegalized for the effects!
5555001 tn?1372873198 d be upset too knowing that there is young children and they hopefully are aware of the longterm effects it has. I have asthma because my parents smoked around me when i was little but I really don't think you can do much.
1571737 tn?1295772392 QUIT smoking!!! COPD only worsens over time... but you can manage it for a lot longer period of time if you quit. If you don't, it's like greasing the wheels of your deathbed, and pushing you down a hill. STOP now. My father just passed away from this disease, and it tested it and tested it.... Just don't ignore and hope you're the lucky one to escape the grips of this disease...
Avatar m tn Since ventolin helps you, it is probably mild asthma. Ventolin tends to only work for 4-6 hours and less if there is a lot of inflammation in your lungs. Defintely worth a doctor visit for full pulmonary tests and possible methacholine challenge to prove or disprove the asthma diagnosis. Since you do smoke it is also possible to have COPD or possible lung cancer so you need to stop smoking and get your butt to the docs. Let us know how it goes and if you have any other questions.
10149512 tn?1408123472 He finishes a packet of 20 cigarettes in one day. What happens if he constantly uses an asthma pump right before smoking a cigarette?
Avatar f tn I havent personally, but I have done lots of research on the health effects. Aside from that, know your states laws about it. In illinois, they test the baby at birth and if he/comes back positive its an automatic call to childrens services.
Avatar f tn She smoked some(not as much as usual) with all three of her kids. I have asthma and breathing problems and my sister has autism. My brother has nothing. I would recommend just trying your hardest to stay away from it. Really no way to tell what will happen ya know? Good luck! I know it's hard for smokers to quit so it's understandable.
Avatar f tn They say on average your baby is born about 400g or under a pound less than babies who dont smoke. That said they are not guaranteed to have asthma. My mum smoked with all 4 of us kids and none of us have asthma or breathing problems.
746512 tn?1388807580 I'm having a lot of trouble lately with my asthma control now that I've started classes again. I seem to be ultra sensitive now (more than I was last year on campus) of cigarette smoke. I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly.
Avatar f tn His mom smoked cigarettes throught all three of her pregnancies and his sister did with both of hers and all the children came out completely fine .. Is it safe to smoke throughout your pregnancy && what are some things that could happen if you do smoke?
7933716 tn?1396130374 I googled the effects of smoking while pregnant and I still try not to im 22 weeks pregnant and my babys healthy but I just dknt want no complications when shesborn like asthma cus all that still runs through my head and I know moms who took pills and smoked weed and dranalcohol ans there baby still healthy and strong
Avatar f tn To reduce SIDS, you should avoid having anyone smoke around your child. Its not just about asthma. As far as during pregnancy, I don't know the statistics but second hand smoke can be as bad as actually smoking I think. For sure, show them some statistics on the effects of smoking on mother's and babies. If they still don't care, like others said it may be time to be somewhere else. Stay with another relative?
Avatar f tn s opinions on smoking marijuana while pregnant? what do you see wrong with it? is it really bad? i hear alot of people say its bad and I hear alot of people say theirs nothing wrong with it..
Avatar f tn I'm 17 Weeks now, as soon as I found out I was pregnant i quit. I read on all the side effects it had on the baby. I have a 4 year old with asthma and don't want the baby to have complications..I couldn't live with myself knowing I hurt my baby...I might be hard at first to quit, but do it at your own pace n stay strong think of your baby who doesn't know...
Avatar m tn t realize is that the asthma or allergies their child has is related to smoking while pregnant. One of the main causes is that smoking builds up in the placenta and causes a reduced blood, oxygen, and nutrition flow to the baby (that's part of reason for low birth weight). I highly recommend quitting as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn I knew a chick who chain smoked with all 4 of her babies. None of them have problems (yet) some things dont show up till later. My mom smoked with my bro and he was diagnosed with a less severe case of athsma at age 8 or 9 I didnt want to take that gamble with my child but yes it was hard to quit :/ If i remember correctly you may want to look this up, but your babies has a higher risk of getting respiratory problems if you smoke either more then half a pack or a pack a day. I cant remember!
Avatar n tn Vaping is WAY worse for you and the baby than cigarettes are. I'm currently trying to quit; have been a pack and a half a day smoker for years and after a week I'm down to 5 or less a day. If it's just too ******* hard and you have to have a cigarette once in awhile. Do it. It's better than putting other chemicals into your body that your system isn't used to. Vapor isn't just "water" and the "nicotine" is a chemical compound designed to mimic it.
