Common Questions and Answers about Effects of smoking on pregnancy

smoking

Avatar f tn I have a close friend who has been addicted to marijuana for a long time, she also smoked during her pregnancy and no they did not test her for it when she gave birth. I don't know much on the effects of marijuana use during pregnancy but I strongly suggest that you look into that for the benefit of the baby. I know that she breastfed for quite a while, continuing to pass the drug onto her child. Our sons are the same age and have been friends since infancy.
Avatar n tn There is not much standardized research done on this due to the illegal nature of marijuana. You can find MANY websites on the effects of cannibis and blood sugar, though and I am surprised you are on this one asking questions. Do you really think someone is gonna get on this site and admit to breaking the law????? Please!
Avatar f tn If you are pregnant it is good that you stopped smoking weed. Not only is the action of smoking itself is detrimental to the health of the baby, but we do not know how cannabis intake can affect the developing brain. If you were using it for nausea, you may have hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that causes excessive nausea and vomiting during early stages of pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!
Avatar f tn This is my first pregnancy and I just recently found out that I will be 5 weeks on feb 24, I am a cigarette smoker as well but I quit as a result of pregnancy. Is my baby in any danger from smoking in the four weeks that I didn't know I was pregnant?? Please answer !
Avatar f tn Google how smoking effects your baby. One was it increases the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). That alone should be enough for someone to quit but a lot of moms turn a blind eye to the negative side effects. Best of luck quitting! !!
Avatar f tn There are also studies that suggest that the use of marijuana during pregnancy has negative effects on the fetus brain development. There are also some that concluded that it effects the babys behavior later on in life. I've also read cases that states that there hasn't been enough information and studies done on the use of marijuana during pregnancy to conclude whether or not it affects the fetus. Information on the internet is often bias.
Avatar f tn Studies have shown that consistent smoking and drinking throughout your pregnancy will cause problems but doing so in very early pregnancy has not reported any long-term ill effects. The placenta doesn't form until week 8 or more so it is doubtful much has even passed to the baby at this point. Good for you for quitting; keep at it and get healthy for your little bean.
Avatar f tn I have taken these few days to do some searching through the medical literature and while there are many worrisome reports cropping up about the effects on the adult users, there is precious little on the effects in pregnancy, and nothing at all on the long term effects on children who have been effected. Spice is as relatively new "stuff" on the market, but what is know about it is very alarming. Professor John W.
Avatar f tn Ive been smoking for over 15 years...this is my 1st pregnancy, and honestly, just the thought of my baby not being able to get enough oxygen or blood flow from me is enough to have me quit. I quit cold turkey. This child should not suffer because of my selfish digusting habit. Thats what worked for me. Good luck to ya!
1536705 tn?1324329047 As far as I know there have not been any actual effects found for smoking weed. The literature says the only known effects are the same of that found for smoking cigarettes. Although it just cant be good for mum or baby. She needs to ensure that she is taking in the correct vitamins etc and I dont know how smoking weed effects these thing in your body. Avatar f tn So I know this woman who is about as far along as I am (34weeks), and she smokes at least a cigarette everyday, and has been throughout her entire pregnancy. She told me it was because her doctor said that of she "quit cold turkey" that it could have negative effects on the baby because of with drawels, though she had plenty of time to quit by now. Is this true?? What do you guys think??
Avatar f tn m 17 Weeks now, as soon as I found out I was pregnant i quit. I read on all the side effects it had on the baby. I have a 4 year old with asthma and don't want the baby to have complications..I couldn't live with myself knowing I hurt my baby...I might be hard at first to quit, but do it at your own pace n stay strong think of your baby who doesn't know...
Avatar f tn I was a smoker and stopped straight away i dont even crave anymore and i do feel a lot better for it although ive got to admit i have to watch what i eat as at first i think i ate to give me something to do lol. I googled what effects smoking has on a baby and that was enough to put me off straight away. Im not saying its not going to be hard especially if you have smokers around you but id also ask them to refrain from smoking anywhere near you.
Avatar f tn then your chances of getting pregnant are really high, especially if you are sexually activie near your days of ovulation which you are since you said every 2-3 days. You need to take a test and see if you are pregnant, use your first morning urine and follow the directions as followed, and stop smoking yesterday! Plus get on protection, you are so young, have fun and worry about having babies later!

Avatar f tn That is a fact, its not like that happens to only some babies, its every baby every pregnancy with anyone who smokes. So that is what made my mother strong enough to quit smoking with 3 pregnancies, she stopped a couple months before she fell pregnant because they were TTC. It's what COULD happen that matters, not what didn't happen to a friends pregnancy and baby. Stay strong all you mommies who are quitting!
Avatar m tn Marijuana can cause panic attacks in some people. Mainly in people who have been smoking for a long time, however, I suffered panic attacks after only 4 months of smoking. Marijuana stimulates the pleasure cells in your brain. If you wan't a scientific answer do a web search. Personally, marijuana affects on me were : increased taste, increased hunger, increased sense of hearing, increased sexual pleasure, increased interest in simple or mundane activities, increased paranoia, and sedation.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
