Avatar n tn 30 minutes....works great..dont let "warnings" of Kava scare you..anything in large doses can damage. Have you tried melatonin?
Avatar m tn Kava Kava is absolutely safe, If its dosage should be taken in proper amount. kava has been prescribed as an effective folk remedy for anxiety, insomnia and stress because of its good results.
Avatar n tn I'm trying to come off citalapram 40mg and want to try kava kava as a replacement but can I take them together? I have the same problem with my sex drive, nearly non existent, seems to be the norm on these tablets. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn s a controversial finding, because the people were also on prescription meds and took drugs, but of course they blamed the kava. That being said, the traditional use of kava, meaning not standardized, has not been implicated in liver problems, so to play it safe you can try that. I would say it's probably fine in any form as long as you don't have any other factors that would call for caution with the liver.
Avatar f tn If you want an appropriate amount of kava, Eclectic Institute, Herb Pharm, Gaia all make kava in various forms, tinctures and pills, standardized and not. Remember, if it tastes good, there's very little kava in it, it tastes horrible. As for the Canada ban, it's kind of banned in the US, too.
Avatar m tn Once my skin oil content becomes normal again as a result of NOT drinking kava for 2-3 months (my estimate of how long it may take), and my sebum is not infused with kavalactones, is it possible that my body will not react if my sebum is not infused with kavalactones?
Avatar m tn There are many little known as of yet herbs that are being discovered every day by ethnobotanists that are stronger as well, but which usually also come with some unpleasant (or pleasant for some) side effects. Passionflower is often considered the best overall relaxant because of its systemic effects, and some of the adrenal support herbs such as ashwagandha and holy basil relax people more than any relaxant herb.
Avatar m tn I am just worried what the dr told me and think if it is worth it to even take a chance by taking Kava. I heard passionflower also works well for anxiety but no side effects like Kava. Any comment?
Avatar f tn t addictive and is easy to stop taking. Xanax has a lot more reported side effects than kava. As to which will work better, again, drugs are a lot stronger than plants. Aspirin is derived from white willow bark. Aspirin will work much better for a headache for most people. It's also deadly because of being so strong -- it can tear apart the stomach lining and cause internal bleeding.
Avatar n tn I have never tried natural hormones or synthetic hormones, and I'm going through menopause now. I experience extreme irritability, but not anxiety in particular. Because of the potential side-effects of any hormone "bioidentical" or otherwise I choose to just take the natural route. I know that physicians would disagree with my choice, but for me personally, I just think that when the body says "I'm on a new journey" we should listen to what our bodies say.
652671 tn?1353712165 If you want to start with something mild, I suggest Kava Stress Relief Tea by Yogi. It tastes pretty decent compared considering it contains kava. Straight kava kind of has a nasty taste and numbs your mouth/tongue/lips.
Avatar f tn Kava is probably the herbal relaxant most like a benzo, but don't take it if you have liver problems. I don't think it's really that dangerous, but a few people had bad reactions to taking standardized extracts. But for overall systemic relief, passionflower is probably even better, but natural medicine is complicated and seldom uses just one remedy or goes after just one body system.
518798 tn?1295212279 KAVA KAVA does not mix with XANAX. it can lead to partial Coma. Long term use of KAVA can have serious side effects.
Avatar n tn t take the Valerian root on the same day you try the Kava. They should be takenon seperate days. Buy the Kava Kava in the form of tea. Try drinking it at night to see how it effects you (or if it effects you). Only buy organic Kava tea. Nothing should be added to the ingredients on the lable. It should not have anything added. Same with the Valerian root. Buy that in capsules. Take it on the weekend. Not during school. See how it effects you.
Avatar m tn Wow, thats a mouth full of information..lol So, you say Kava and holy basil are better choices..I'll try do more research and see whats the best choice for me.
Avatar m tn Kava (Liquid) and St. John's Wart are beautiful herbal remedies.. You will feel like a whole new person. 798555 tn?1292787551 Kava is probably safe, but to be sure avoid the standardized version which is what was implicated -- there have been no concerns with traditional kava, which is used daily in Polynesia. But there are many other herbal relaxants, such as valerian, passionflower, hops, etc. and there are many combination formulas.
Avatar f tn Nor should you add anything to your current regime without the knowledge and consent of your doctor. As an example, the poster states that Kava Kava is good for anxiety and that may be very true, but it is totally contraindicated while taking Ativan. As is valerian, another very common herb known to help with anxiety. The other word of caution is never attempt to wean yourself off any of these types of medication without the guidance of your medical doctor.
Avatar m tn im tellin' ya go to your health food store and get you some kava. kava tea. kava extract. what ever form they have. works for me.........

Avatar f tn They would use a holistic approach that would combine a group of natural remedies targeting different areas of the body as well as recommend meditation, relaxation exercises, and therapy. The only way you'll know is to try it. Other relaxing herbs are passionflower, valerian, and many others. You might want to invest in a book called Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. It's a basic overview of how natural remedies are used in combination for mental issues.

Melatonin St. John's Wort Fatigued to Fantastic Revisalizing Sleep Formula --- Dr. Teitelbaum's formula A nasal spray that combines itraconzole (Sporanox), xylitol, mupirocin (Bactroban), and dexamathasone. Avatar m tn I combined a kava kava stress relief tea tea with 30 drops of kava kava root, and it took effect very fast (10 minutes or so). I was told that kava extracts can vary in quality and effectiveness, and it's best to go with a reputable brand in liquid form. My health food store also had roots that you can combine with warm water or tea. This supposedly will give you the best effects. I think a lot of supplements are bogus, and I was pleasantly surprised that this has taken off the edge.
