1422823 tn?1287679280 Hello there- I had 3 level diskectomy on July 8th and I quit smoking about a week before surgery and started again a month post opt. I have healed really well and I'm not a heavy smoker about 3-6 smokes a day. Depending on the day!!! I am having chiari surgery on Nov. 4th I am planning to try to quit about 2 weeks before but I just get so scared that smoking is the only thing to relax me. I know it's wrong I just enjoy it. I'm not sure if that helped.

Avatar f tn Google how smoking effects your baby. One was it increases the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). That alone should be enough for someone to quit but a lot of moms turn a blind eye to the negative side effects. Best of luck quitting! !!
Avatar f tn The treatment of choice for cancer of the oral part of the tongue is usually surgery. But small such cancers can also be cured with radiotherapy. If radiotherapy is used, the preferred method in suitable candidates is implantation of radioactive material in the tongue. This should be done only by a radiation oncologist who has had a good deal of experience with this procedure. Whether primary treatment is surgery or radiation you may have to have external beam radiation as well.
882425 tn?1240577566 m still scared of developing lung cancer, as I smoked cigarettes for about 15 years before diagnosis (I quit smoking after that- 1 pack a day was my average- but I've started smoking occassionally the past few years since having children (helps me relax). My fear is that the tar from cigarettes have accumulated on the calcifications and never left because the cilia can't 'clean' the tar off them and that I'm adding more when I smoke occassionally.
393419 tn?1228447393 I had smoked for 41 years and had to quit due to excess tissue growth (not cancer) on my vocal cords. The tissue was caused by a combination of smoking and acid reflux and I had gotten to the point where I could hardly talk. I used Chantix and breezed right through the whole ordeal. That was before I was dx'd with hypothyroidism/Hashi's (not necessarily before I had it - just not dx'd).
Avatar f tn Okay, so I was recently in a pretty bad car accident almost a month ago. I was the only person hit but suffered a broken nose and a depressed skull fracture near my temporal lobe. I was in the hospital surgery room within an hour and was out of surgery in another three hours. It wasn't clear what the damage to my brain would be until I would have awoke from the anesthesia.
Avatar f tn My endo surgeon has asked me to take Tapazole 10 mg bid before he will do surgery as my TSH is twice the normal limit. My immuno assays are normal also. I am hyperthyroid but feeling totally fine with no symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I do have four nodules, only one that is of excessive size and the only thing that is functioning as it is hyperactive and producing the actual hormone levels. There is a photopenic area below this nodule.
Avatar n tn I am having bariatric surgery in a few months. They said that I have to quit smoking before the surgery. They said that if I show up and my urine test pos for nicotine the day of my surgery they will cancel my surgery and have done it to others My concern too is that I live with a heavy smoker. Also can't use the patch or inhalers to help stop either. I feel so screwed. So if I quit wouldn't second hand smoke be in my system? However they say you cannot have caffeine either.
Avatar n tn There is not much standardized research done on this due to the illegal nature of marijuana. You can find MANY websites on the effects of cannibis and blood sugar, though and I am surprised you are on this one asking questions. Do you really think someone is gonna get on this site and admit to breaking the law????? Please!
1046985 tn?1305117048 I had my uterus removed in 2001, and am aged 46. I am just wondering how long after surgery would I notice the effects of menopause????? At this point I am starting to believe that maybe my ovaries weren't even working before surgery, due to various problems in the last 6 months. So far, TOUCH WOOD, I don't think I am having any symptoms of menopause post surgery, and would be very interested if I am to go through instant menopause, how long before I noticed any changes.
Avatar f tn I snoked cigrattes after 5 mnths of my surgery for very short time and i left smoking. I m afraid still can i have development of pvr ?
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!

Avatar m tn Marijuana can cause panic attacks in some people. Mainly in people who have been smoking for a long time, however, I suffered panic attacks after only 4 months of smoking. Marijuana stimulates the pleasure cells in your brain. If you wan't a scientific answer do a web search. Personally, marijuana affects on me were : increased taste, increased hunger, increased sense of hearing, increased sexual pleasure, increased interest in simple or mundane activities, increased paranoia, and sedation.
Avatar n tn The answer is yes. The sooner the better.
