Common Questions and Answers about Effects of seroquel in pregnancy

seroquel

My daughter-in-law takes a variety of prescribed psychoactive drugs and she is now 2 months pregnant. In particular she takes 400mg of seroquel nightly, 500mg if she has more trouble sleeping. Am I wrong to be horrified?
How safe is 200 milligrams of seroquel while pregnant and nursing? Also, is it dangerous to cut the pills in half to take a lesser dose? Or should you cut or break the pills at all?
I took Seroquel at the beginning of my pregnancy and my baby boy, now almost 7 months old, is perfectly normal. I had started it a few months before getting pregnant for depression because I had troubles getting over my last miscarriage. My MD had told me it was OK to take it while trying to get pregnant. When I discovered I was pregnant I called a baby hotline in my state and they told me Seroquel was OK.
The seroquel seems to be working very well - I was starting w/d last night and w/in 30mins of taking seroquel I was able to sleep a whole 8hrs - but I'm worried it's b/c I still had sub in my system.
I have cronic insomnia and my phychiatrist put me on seroquel for this pregnancy. I am 33 weeks and have been using seroquel during the whole pregnancy. I am extremely nervous if I am doing any harm to my little new baby girl. I am having panic attacks this week just thinking about it. I just hope for the best to all our babies.
I'm currently in graduate school for counseling and am taking a psychopharmacology class, I learned that the older, typical antipsychotics are safer in pregnancy but I know that they have more side effects and am confused on why they would be safer. I also have a hard time tolerating them, I've tried stelazine and navane in the past. Mellaril wasn't bad but serouquel works better. Any information on meds you could give me would be appreciated.
1st I will start off by saying Seroquel is pretty safe to take during pregnancy, ive seen a lot of woman take it throughout their pregnancy and the baby was perfectly normal.
For a person who is experiencing this for the first time...it can be VERY upsetting and disturbing. I was there before as well...the first time I went through this, I was convinced there was something wrong with my eyes. Everything just "looked" so weird, so odd. I almost felt like I was having out of body experiences...or was watching the world through a movie projector, instead of through my own eyes and mind.
I cried off and on for a few months after being diagnosed knowing I will never experience the joys of pregnancy. I am looking for some support here. We are excited to adopt and are planning to get on the waiting list for a baby as soon as we are married, since it is 3-7 years long. I guess what I am looking for is false hope? Is there any medications a woman can take during pregnancy. I have done research and have not had any luck.
I just found out I'm 7 weeks along, my husband and I had decided to terminate the pregnancy mainly because I am on a number of medications that scare both of us. We saw the doctor yesterday and set a date for the procedure. Now we are both having second thoughts, this is not a choice we want to make. Can anyone tell me if the below listed medications are a concern or should be cause to go through with the termination? Concerta 54mg, Prozac 60mg, Zovirax 800mg, Rubinol 4mg, seroquel 100mg.
Those are very powerful drugs that deal with hormone balances in your body and are very powerful in the influence of stress. All this panicking and fear you have in itself can be a major cause of why you are late. You're eating habits, this weight gain/loss can all attribute to a delayed period. You need to realize the facts though, and that's pregnancy symptoms are visible within 6-8 weeks of being conceived. If you're hungry and thirsty...you're hungry and thirsty as of right now.
It's possible that it only works in a specific subpopulation of bipolar people, and the effects get washed out by noise in the clinical trials. If it's working for you and you're not cycling, then that's good. Did the topomax work for you? It tends to cause weight loss, which is generally not a good reason for taking it, but I'm betting you'd feel a lot better with your back and be healthier if you could start to reverse that med-induced weight gain.
In October of 2006, I was put on insulin for my diabetes. I am currently in control of my blood sugars, and all is fine in that department (according to my bloodwork). I do not use condoms due to allergic reactions to latex and various chemicals. I am married, and we have been together for 5 years now. Hubby has survived cancer twice in his youth (he is 30 now). First he had Leukemia at age 3 or 4, and then cancer of the CNS around age 6-7. He had both radiation and chemotherapy.
The English have used Vitex or Chaste berry to suppress the libido as did the Catholic Church, which had it placed in the pockets of neophyte monks to help in their vow of chastity. Early American physicians used it to stimulate lactation and as an emmenagogic. However, there is no contemporary scientific literature to suggest that Vitex or Chaste Berry actually does suppress the libido. How can Vitex or Chaste berry help me in getting pregnant?
I am always 31 day cycle, never missed a period in my life, not stressed or worried about anything, I had all classis symptoms of pregnancy but strangely when all tests came back negative the symptoms dissapeard which makes me think it was in my head. Being caught up in the holiday season I really did forget about ovualtion and trying to fall pregnant so would ahve been the perfect time to actully conceive without putting much stress on it.
I started to wean myself off because my Zoloft is starting to kick in on Friday of last week. I changed my dosage to 1/2 of a pill. I've had some withdrawal and was wondering if anyone else has had this and how long the withdrawal lasted? Also I have a big fear about the seizure thing when stopping Xanex, is there a certain dosage that you have to be taking for that to be a bigger risk?
I am groggy also today because i took 100mcg of seroquel last night and it kicked my butt today but i wake in a good mood though - i called the dr and he sent off form a "calm me down drug" but sometimes those have the oppsite effect on me you know. I have three children - my son 15 was adopted, my daughter 12, and son 8months.

There are only 3 of us in this study ( 40 in world). Will complete trail 6-13-2013. So far so good for all of us. Some are in better health than others, although all of us are non responders, and cirrhotic. They have said our chances of SVR12 are in the 70-80% percent of clearing. This is the same Gilead regime Hector is on. I read about his trial, and was able to find my trial. Thank you again Hector you are the man in my book!!!!! His trial was to clear Hep C before tranx.
All in all, I hope these side effects are worth it! I hope I see a difference in the migraines and maybe even the loss of appetite (hopefully)! If not, I'm definitly stopping this. I dont like feeling like I'm staring into space all day!!! Have a great weekend!!
Whenever a patient is under current medical care, it is important that all physicians are aware that the lady is going to attempt pregnancy and that there has been a discussion of both the effects of disease on the pregnancy and the effects of pregnancy on the disease. Many diseases that are active at the time one becomes pregnant worsen; equally, if the disease is well-controlled at the time of conception, management during pregnancy is often much easier.
Assuming a schizophrenic woman has deciced to get pregnant while on medication, which of the newer atypical medications, ie zyprexa, seroquel, etc. poses the least risk to the fetus?
Anyway, you just do it and you ask for help and then you ask for more help! Some of us have been in some kind of recovery care. Others have found that simply having the support of their spouses/family is enough to keep them accountable. Find something that works for you and do it! I've found that this is not a road you can walk alone. We all need help with it! Also, it's never good to over think this. Frankly, and I say this all the time, you need to change the way you think.
to take during pregnancy (meaning benefits outweigh the risks), but from what I have read seroquel may not be one of them. I would start by finding a new doctor. I know how hard it is to find a medication that works, as I have been through it many times with my husband. It will probably be even harder during pregnancy. I see you are from Marion IA. I am in Hiawatha. If you would like to know the name of the psychiatrist my husband sees let me know and I will PM it to you!! Good luck!!
So far, only few studies have used it to assess the effects of CBT in OCD and phobia, and of CBT in depression. 2.7.2 For the most part, though, I did not manifest BPD symptoms like: elated mood, grandiose behaviours, decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts or hyper-sexuality.
After taking pictures with some friends and (self-proclaimed,) step kids, I looked at the pictures and was so upset that I ended up having a total physical and emotional break down. (Right in the middle of Beale Street in Memphis TN!) Being on the shots, i had a lot of problems, horrible acne, weak immune system, loss of "lubrication," no sex drive what-so-ever. The list goes on and on. The last time i had sex was August 29, 2006.
Seroquel® (quetiapine fumarate) may not be safe for women who are pregnant. In previous animal studies that looked at the effects of the drug during pregnancy, Seroquel increased the chance of miscarriage and other problems. Seroquel and Pregnancy Category C The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a category system to classify the possible risks to a fetus when a specific medicine is taken during pregnancy.
Lamictal alone was unable to help me, but the combination with Seroquel has kept me stable. Do not consume yourself with worrying about the side effects - just focus on getting better. Try talk therapy as well. Good luck.
The only thing I seemed to be addicted to is smoking, but have quit 14 times (with every pregnancy I have had with no problems because of sheer will power). I have three small children and I can not afford to take drugs that alter my moods or debilatate me in physical ways. Xanax does not make me sleepy and takes care of my attacks within 10 to 15 minutes after I take it. On rare occasions I have had it not work and had been rushed to the hospital 4x for it in the last 2 years.
I'm not sure if this has all been just pregnancy hormones or bpd episodes or a mixture of both. I threw a cup of beer at my boyfriend because he did something that really upset me. Has anyone else ever been pregnant with bpd??
