Common Questions and Answers about Effects of prozac in pregnancy

prozac

Avatar f tn Usually there are side effects, which should diminish with time. I found Prozac did not suit me at all, but it suits lots of other people. My side effects were so bad I had to stop the 10mg dose within a few weeks. We all react differently to drugs, what suits one person, may not suit another. You have not been on Prozac long, so you may need to give it time to get into your body. If you really think the side effects are too bad, then I suggest you go back to the doctor.
Avatar f tn re feeling is withdrawal, a return of what drove you to be on meds in the first place, or side effects of the new drug. Prozac is sometimes used at low dosage at the end of a difficult taper off a med to get you off the old med and onto Prozac because Prozac stays in the body longer than other SSRIs and is for that reason thought to have fewer withdrawal problems.
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking Abilify and am experiencing uncontrolled shaking and light-headedness. What are the side effects of Abilify and are these a couple of them. Should I try something else to help with my depression. THe Psych. said that this in concert with my prozac should help me out. Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn There is no good body of knowledge about the long term effects....if he were just starting the medication, I would think it might be a side effect, but if he has been using for twenty years, then probably not, but can't say that for sure...the way to find out is ask the doctor to take him off of prozac and see if his symptoms subside...should be done carefully and slowly over a 5 week period.......
Avatar f tn I really didn't have any side effects while being on the prozac, but I only used it when I was diagnosed with depression. I'm not sure about the use of prozac for anxiety as at the time I only had depression. I know they say every drug works differently on people so it is really hard to say.
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking the strattera because it gave me the hot flashes.I stopped Strattera in Feb of 07. In November of 2008, I tapered off Prozac. I was ok for about 9 months. Then, in August of 09, I started having anxiety issues.. Not really mental anxiety, but physical anxiety.. My insides felt like they were running on overdrive, kind of like an engine at high idle. So in October of 08, I went back on Prozac (10mg) About 1 week into treatment, I started having chest pain..
Avatar f tn s possible you may be asked to tapper a little either during the first trimester of pregnancy or during the late stages of the third trimester. Only your dr can determine that (it's very possible this won't even be needed). If your dr tells you to wean off your meds completely before pregnancy then find a dr who will work with you and address your needs.
Avatar n tn I've started taking 10mg of Prozac for almost a month now for anxiety and I've been getting a few different effects going on. I've been getting pressure headaches in the back of my head, sometimes I feel light-headed. I'm tending to space out a bit more than usual and getting drowzy (They said that would most likely happen, so I should take my meds at night). And the past few nights when I've woken up, my hands have fallen asleep.
Avatar f tn Two questions about side effects of Prozac together. I have just answered above. I would say see doctor and discuss how you are feeling. Maybe, like me, Prozac is the wrong anti-depressant for you.
Avatar n tn I've been on Prozac all through my first pregnancy and nursing and now am pregnant again. Still on Prozac and added Welbutrin. No issues with my daughter at all and its caused no complications this pregnancy. A healthy mama is a healthy baby!
Avatar m tn I take Prozac. Your side effects could be from the Prozac, or it could just be anxiety in general. Anxiety can do this to people, weird dreams, waking up in a panic etc. Or it could be the Prozac. I have weird dreams time to time, I have no idea if it is the Prozac, or just me having dreams. I haven't really looked into it. 7 days on Prozac will not relief you from any anxiety. it will take 6-8 weeks. and by the 4th week or so your doctor might have you increase to 20mg instead of 10mg.
Avatar n tn I have been on prozac (fluxetene) for 14 years now - I was severely depressed - and when I started taking it I was suicidal. After two weeks on Prozac my life changed dramatically - and I have been on it ever since with variations on the dozage - I now take 20 mg daily. (I did try to get off it once because everything in my life was great and felt there was no reason to be depressed - but after weaning myself off the depression came back with a vengence - so I went back on it).
20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
Avatar n tn Is it dangerous to change abruptly to Pristiq after 2 weeks of 80 mg Prozac? I have read Prozac stays in your system for over a week, and am concerned that Pristiq will cause serotonin syndrome. I have read so many things in depression forums that am more confused and insecure than ever. Some people report gaining 30 pounds in less than 6 months with Efexxor and Pristiq.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
202436 tn?1326474333 The decision to take an antidepressant during pregnancy is a personal one and one that must be weighed carefully with your OB/GYN. Not a lot is known about the risks of these meds during pregnancy, and some AD's are considered safer than others. For someone who may be at very high risk for severe depression (which of course can easily worsen during pregnancy)..or someone with history of severe PPD for example, many times it is adviseable that the Mom take the medication.
219241 tn?1413537765 Going to my doc 2 weeks after starting my Prozac. I have had really really strange dreams! Like my ex sister-in-law coming out of a fireplace with rain falling on her and she isn't even wet! I don't own a fireplace in reality! Weird. At least the weepiness seems to have stopped, but then again I am mid cycle and never get weepy then. Only in the days before my period. Have noticed I am a bit manic. Don't seem to be able to shut up talking.
1481291 tn?1287793105 Zoloft is the safest in pregnancy Prozac has a bit more risks. I am taking zoloft in pregnancy right now and no problems so far and I know many many many women on here and not on here who are taking zoloft or have taking zoloft during pregnancy.
2193833 tn?1339411302 The second time I took it, I started at 25 mg (due to the increase in side effects) and gradually tapered up to an ending dose of 150 mg, which had me feeling very good. I didn't need quite as high a dose as I ended up with initially, but the lower doses definitely didn't make much of a difference. Of course everyone is different, you may find a lower dose will be effective for you.
449440 tn?1206887304 normal side effects of an SSRI. should subside in about 2 weeks from the date you started taking the prozac, maybe sooner. if it continues on past 3 weeks talk to your doc if it's bothering you that much. not too bad side effects though, get some rest, eat well and maybe when your feeling a little more up, do some exercises. i think you'll be fine real soon.
Avatar f tn I'm 38wks on Friday and was prescribed Bupropian(Wellbutrin), an antidepressant by my OB last week. I've been told by him and by other's that this late in pregnancy it will cause 0 or little side effects in my baby. I'll be breastfeeding too. I just feel guilty almost for taking something, but I didn't know what else to do. I was at my wits end. Are any other moms in this boat? And if so did it effect your baby?
Avatar n tn You have to look at your depression and the severity of it when off of medication. Depression can cause all kinds of problems in pregnancy and depression that goes unchecked is more harmful to the baby than the meds. If your depression is severe then your dr will probably recommend you staying on it. If it is mild and the risk is higher with meds they may recommend you stop them. It really is a case by case basis. Zoloft and Prozac are used the most and have more of a history in pregnancy.
