my hr has been sat on 80 odd all afternoon which i know is not HIGH but feels high to me and freaks me out, i dont see the specialist again for 10 days as i live in a regional town and he only comes in once a fortnight, dont know if i should just stop taking the prednisone or try to put up with the fast hr, my hr normally settles back down to its usual 60 after my pm dose of sotalol

My daughter had a severe sinus infection with fluid/ear pressure buildup so painful, the doctor prescribed 20 mg of Prednisone, taken 3 times a day (60 mg) for 7 days, reduce to 2 for 2 days, then 1 for 1 day to keep from 'damaging her ear drum because the fluid buildup was so bad'.
She's been taking it for 5 days and feel sick to her stomach, headaches - the only thing that has left is the pain in her ears.
Is that an overdose what they gave her? Are these the side effects?
I agree with you - I also hate prednisone!! It does work wonders for many things, but it sure does have a lot of nasty side effects too. I've been on it many, many times in my lifetime and quite often at very high doses - my highest being 120 mg daily (yes, I did say 120!!).
I hope the decrease you made was under the guidance of your doctor.
I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone,have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
He weighs only 25 lbs. After the first two 20 MG doses of Prednisone, I cut his dosage in half to 10 MG. Today I gave him only 5 MG and will obviously skip his evening dose and that will be the end of it. But his panting and shaking are worse tonight... it is scary to watch.
Hi again. Do you mean that you fear side effects from this dose of Prednisone that you didn't get from much larger doses of the IV? Could you say why this is?
Actually, IVSM is intravenous methylprednisolone, and it's considerably stronger than just Prednisone, even at the same dosage (as I learned a few weeks ago when we had quite a discussion here about this). So you've had much more of this than you'd thought.
My husband has been on and off high doses of Prednisone for the last year, and side effects are devastating, including the thinning of his skin---and lesions caused by cuts and scratches that he isn't even aware have happened, will his skin (on his arms mostly) return to normal at some point? will all of the bloating in his face and belly disappear at some point? All opinions accepted.....doctors refuse to admit his skin damage is due to Prednisone, but I have no doubt WHATSOEVER.
Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.

Hi, as far the present symptoms are concerend, probably they are due to prednisone only. Verapamil is the drug given in prophylaxis of migraine but it can not abort the attack once it get started.
May be you need to taper the dose of prednisone as this drug is never withdrawn instantly. Do consult doctor for side effects.
I am just at the end of a 5 day decreasing dose of prednisone. I have taken prednisone many other times, with no adverse side effects. I went to the doctor yesterday with the following symptomps; even though I knew that I was getting enough air, I felt that I could not get a good breath and my throat felt very tight and jaw just clenched open while I was gasping for breath. I also felt very anxious. I never experienced this before. Boy it was scary.
Sounds like you are on the same regimine that the girl on Facebook took. She had similar complaints...but she did heal. Her facebook group is called Granulomatous Lobular Mastitis and as far as I know I am the only other person who has joined the group. I found it before I found this one. She recovered, and although I shared this link with her, I don't believe she ever joined this group.
Anyway, I have have not had constipation, or any other side effects that I am aware of.
Flare-ups of AIH may occur during pregnancy, although such occurrences are usually rare due to the immunosuppressive effects of pregnancy. I am not looking forward to the side effects of Prednisone steriods, but it seems the only alternative. The doctor told me I might be on it for 18-24 months with a close watch every 4-6 weeks from my doctor. Hope this helps.
As I tapered off, I was on methotrexate for a number of months. When I got to a low dose of prednisone, I started to get a bit worse. My rheumatologist said: You may have to be on methotrexate for the rest of your life. The surgeon said: for the rest of your life? You can't do that. The body can't take that. Better to cut the breast off.
My rheumatologist took me off all the meds (probably because he didn't want me on prednisone for more than a year).
Not everyone has the same effects. I did not gain weight but it caused me a lot of anxiety which made me think something was wrong with me. The prednisone made me feel great, took away the pain, started to shrink my mass. I was on it for about 6 weeks all together but as soon as I started tapering off, abscesses started again. About 1 month after taking that dose I did a burst of steroids (12 days) and same thing, GM symptoms came back as I was getting off.
