Common Questions and Answers about Effects of paxil in pregnancy

paxil

Avatar f tn After seeing my doctor lately, she has decided to take me off my Cymbalta. I've been on it for 3 years with no change in my depression. What I'm wondering about are the withdrawals that I think I've been experiencing. The doctor also has put me on Paxil while weaning me off the Cymbalta. The symptoms I've had are mostly being very shaky; so much so that it's hard to hold a spoon because I'm shaking that badly. Is this normal and will it go away?
983155 tn?1248700406 I get really angry over nothing and I am really dizzy. Is that alot for me to take of wellbutrin to start of .. Is it the paxil wiithdrawls?? Is it the welbutrin?? Help!!
Avatar n tn You're not clear on the timetable here, at least to my humble brain. Some of your symptoms are a bit odd -- did you say you went completely off klonopin and didn't suffer any withdrawal after taking a high dose for so long (3mg)? Here's my confusion: Paxil is known to pack a wallop of a withdrawal, and many of your reported symptoms sound more like Paxil withdrawal than klonopin withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Some studies have reported a doubling of the risk of heart birth defects in babies when mothers take paxil in the first trimester, but even if these studies are true it must be born in mind that heart defects are uncommon in the first place, so that even if the risk really is doubled, they are still pretty uncommon.
Avatar n tn Which has more side effects, Paxil or effexor?? Which is easier to ween off of Paxil or Effexor? When you ween off of a med. do the side effects subside?? I am so scared. Somebody please answer. Thank you so much.
Avatar n tn The last time I tried going off of paxil, I was down to 5 mg per day for a couple of months. I then went completely off for over a month. I then had a very bad panic attack that came right out of the blue. I decided on my own to go back on the drug. I did it at a dose of 10 mg/day for a week. The second week I went up to 20 mg/day for a week and so on up to 40 mg/day. The thing that I noticed when I decided to go back on the drug was that the first two weeks were really rough.
Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Avatar m tn After the first soe of medication i have a panic attact right away, afre all week of suffering i came back to my old doctor who described teh paxil in the begging . He changed the Paxil to CR 12.5 and gave me Xanax, The hell just started, I was not able to function, between morning panic attacts and vomiting i was not able to work (almost lost my job). After two weeks of suffering i went to hospital they run all regular tests and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with me.

Avatar m tn ive stopped from 5mg of lexapro to 5 mg of paxil , and will up my dose in a week. anyone done the same thing? what sideeffects did u have?
Avatar n tn m writing this because I was searching information of the medicine for withdrawal. I ran out of the med for 2 days for the first time in a year and I thought I was going to die. I had nausea, headache, palpitations, I couldn't drive my head was spinning. Ugly feeling I changed my mood very drastically and started to yell at my 10 year/old. My husband had to come back from work and go to the pharmacy and pick up the med. I took it and withing 2 hrs I'm fine again.
Avatar m tn So recently I have been diagnosed with anxiety, which I definitely have and I am at a point in my life where I am seeking change. I wish to rid myself of the anxieties that cloud my brain, hindering my potential. But ANYWAYS...after meeting with a psychiatrist, she prescribed me 12.5 mg of Paxil a day.
Avatar n tn You have to look at your depression and the severity of it when off of medication. Depression can cause all kinds of problems in pregnancy and depression that goes unchecked is more harmful to the baby than the meds. If your depression is severe then your dr will probably recommend you staying on it. If it is mild and the risk is higher with meds they may recommend you stop them. It really is a case by case basis. Zoloft and Prozac are used the most and have more of a history in pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Take it real solw and ask your doctor about taking Remeron to help take the edge of off the Paxil side effects. Did a great job for me! Lets you get to sleep at night and really helps with the anixety. However, it did keep me in a fog for a few days until my body adjusted.
Avatar f tn The Paxil is 25mg and the Zolpidem is 5 mg. I have on them since March of this year. The doctor told me to take the Paxil every other day for 2 weeks then quit. The Zolpidiem to take as needed. I have only taken one in the last 2 weeks. My last Paxil was last Weds. night, almost a week ago. The nausea and dizziness are not getting any better yet. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Me either, but due to the short duration of your taking Paxil, hopefully it'll go away soon. I wish I could help, but I've never been able to solve my Paxil withdrawal problem. It can be a very tough med. But it does seem odd since it usually takes four to six weeks for an antidepressant to really start working. I wish I could help.
Avatar m tn This was a long process, as I got all the typical side effects. The last couple of times that I had sex, I had a MAJOR premature ejaculation problem. I've never had this in my life. I did some searching, and apparently Paxil is also prescribed for premature ejaculation. I'm beginning to think that just by getting off the medicine, I "swung the other way", and I'm not sure what to do now. Get back on the Paxil? Has anybody else experienced this by chance? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've been taking Paxil 10mg since my early 20's, I'm now 44 and have been experiencing lots of aches and pains in my body; does this have anything to do with Paxil? I'm trying to figure out if the pains I'm experiencing are due to running/exercise and my work which involved physical labor. Help?
Avatar f tn Zoloft is the safest SSRI in pregnancy which is in the same category as paxil. The best thing the dr can do is keep you on the paxil, add zoloft, wait 2 weeks then slowly decrease the paxil while increasing the zoloft. This should take approx 1 month or longer to do so that you do not experience any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I believe Paxil is a milder AD with fewer side effects. I was on Paxil a while ago. It took about a month for it to set in, but it worked really well for me. And my friend who is on AD currently. I wouldn't imagine it should be too difficult, because they're working on the same issue, but you may experience some hiccups as the transition takes place. I'd keep that in mind, in case you start to develop abnormal irritation or anxiety symptoms.
Avatar f tn I was taking 25mg of Paxil and my doctor wanted me off of it. He told me to take a pill once every other day for 2 weeks then stop. It has been a week now and I am having dizziness and nausea. I have to work and I need some help. Any suggestions and can you tell me about how long these side effects will last?
Avatar n tn What my psychiatrist did in the beginning because of the side effects was to have me divide the dose into two, once in the morning, once at dinner time, and that helped. I was also on clonazepam, and the dose was halved -- fortunately I didn't suffer a withdrawal, which could have happened. It never stopped giving me obsessive thoughts or sedation, but I was very active and a meditator, so I got used to it.
Avatar n tn Everytime I do any activity walking up stairs run the vacuum walk around the store I have excessive sweating of the back of the head my hair becomes soaking wet. It looks like i just steeped out of the shower i can ring the water from my hair my face gets flushed but if i sit down i cool off and then i am ok. I have had thyroid blood tests 3 times 2 times were normal 1 time was abnormal.
Avatar n tn I am on Paxil at the moment. Getting married in 4 months and would like to switch to a safer med. I would like to know the easiest and safest way to wean off and start another. Which drug would be the best? My GP is really not very much help.
Avatar f tn I was recently on paxil for anxiety until I realized all of the side effects that I was getting including gaining weight. I talked to my doctor and he said I could wean myself off. I was taking 20 mg. He said 10 mg for 2 weeks and then 5mg for 2 weeks, after start wellbutrin. However, I didn't make it that far. Just by one week of going Down to 10 mg I was vomiting, running to the bathroom. Nervousness, dizzy, brain zap and a fuzzy feeling in my head, sweating, VERY emotional.
Avatar f tn Alot of SSRIs make people gain weight but if paxil worked for you then go with it because if it aint broke don't fix it.
Avatar n tn Paxil and Effexor both have a ton of side effects, so who knows? A question though: why did your doc skip 30mg of Paxil and go right from 20 to 40? I believe 30mg is the average dose. And remember, both Paxil and Effexor can have a bad withdrawal, so whatever you do, do it slowly and carefully.
Avatar n tn I have recently switched from paxil to prozac because of weight gain my doc told me to just stop taking the paxil and take 1\2 pill of the prozac for 6 days then take to full dose after 6 days everything was going go until the 5 day of taking the prozac now i am have anxiety attacks and i just feel so out of it i was just wondering if it was just withdrawls from the paxil or has the prozac even had time to kick in yet just tired of feeling so down and out.
