Common Questions and Answers about Effects of oxycontin in pregnancy

oxycontin

Avatar f tn Hi emmaless, Am I reading your post correctly that you were taking 80 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day and 40 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day? If yes, keep reading...LOL. I thought you wrote that you were taking 80 mg and 40mg total of Oxycontin per day. That is why my post to your other thread stated that you were on more medicine through Fentanyl than through Oxycontin. That is not the case if you taking the 80 mg and the 40 mg 3x per day. That is 120 mg x 3 or 360 mg of Oxycontin per day vs.

Avatar f tn I was reading up the effects of crushing up the oxys and it read that doin so would or could result in an overdose.. i am in the process of tapering off... i was just woundering just for peice of mind what the dose would have to be to actually overdose... i am currently on 120mgs a day and dropping.. i am scared a night sometimes to fall asleep do to respitorie depression.. thanks any feedback would be appriciated.
Avatar m tn I also went to the dentist and she gave me a splint to stop bruxism, which as I understand is a symptom of the withdrawal, I have a vague understanding of the whole concept of withdrawing from a substance like oxycontin. The rebound headaches and such, I'm just worried that I'm overlooking a serious illness and assuming its from the withdrawal process.
Avatar m tn After several years of losing absolutely everything to oxycontin I think that this time I am actually finally on top of weening off of both. I've been through horrible withdrawal in the past that have kept me from being able to quit so instead I have been reducing what I take bit by bit this time and so far have been sticking with it. One question though - since I started reducing my intake of oxy's I have not been able to keep my eyes open for long.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone new about the side effects of Oxycontin. I am currently taking 60 mg. 3 times a day for chronic pain. I have notice among other things that my sex drive has pretty much disappeared and that I have real problems getting erections if I may be so bold here. So I was wondering if anyone knows if that is a normal side effect of this drug. Also sweating and chills seem to be happening alot.
Avatar f tn There are other drugs out there that may be more effective with less side effects that she could try, however she has been on the Oxycontin so long she has become dependent and built up a tolerance to it so steps would have to be taken to change her medication safely. All opiates are going to have these types of side effects that you describe after long term use at his doses. Is she in Pain Management? If not that would be the best option for her at this point.
Avatar m tn What you describe are classic and normal symptoms of withdrawal from a high mg daily dose..Being a veteran of three cases of oxycontin withdrawal..I would not wish it on my worst enemy as well..If you can find a "non-oxycodone" based way to manage your pain, I would highly suggest you seek an alternative..

774736 tn?1311331385 Is it possible that marijuana and oxycontin abuse could have caused this? I havent touched oxycontin in over six months, four months before I had my first anxiety attack...I stopped smoking marijuana two months ago and after all the ER visits and everything checking out fine(heart and lungs), I still have episodes of panic but now Ive been feeling like im in a dream...I cant stop thinking about what could have caused this mess...
Avatar f tn This is a bad drug, and the effects of it are devastating and long lasting. I have not a any days in the last 430 that I did not have to deal with the effects. It is a daily battle and if you do not treat it that way, it will eventually beat you down.. I highly recommend NA or some type of aftercare if he is not already in some. If I can be of any help, please let me know.
Avatar f tn Come to think of it...do you have a hospital in your area that specializes in labor and delivery? A women's hospital? If so, I would go to their ER. They would be much better equipped to deal with this and point you in the right direction. I don't agree with your doctor at all, and I think this is dangerous...no eating, no sleeping? Contractions? Please seek help Asap. I hope you can find a doctor that knows a bit more. He said, "it's not like you were on heroin"...
Avatar f tn t remember if he took his pills or not, and now has been crushing at least one pill a day. He is in and out of bed all night and in the morning, gets out of bed around noon and takes a nap in the afternoon and evening. He say's he can't sleep because of the oxycontin. He is very grouchy and irritable , has an anger attack, then will act as if nothing has happened.
Avatar m tn Was in hospital for 3 months and during that time I had 10 lots of surgery on my left knee. Because I was in alot of pain I was prescribed Oxycontin 10mg twice a day. Since I was still in pain the Oxycontin was gradually increased to 200mg twice a day. Because of side affects it was changed, by my Dr, to 100mg 4 times a day. When I saw my pain management consultant a few months ago he put me on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches, 10mg. ! patch to be put on for 7 days.
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
Avatar f tn Most will tell you that this too can be very addictive and some are on very high doses of opiates that make it very hard to even come off of Sub. I was on 140 mg of Oxy a day for ten years and managed to get off in under three weeks -- it was still a somewhat painful but nothing near what CT would have been like. I am a big Sub proponent now.
922573 tn?1304099329 Hello All, I haven't been on this site for about a year now and I apologize. Many personal issues going on and I'll be sure to send a pm to my friends asap. Anyway, obviously I have a chronic pain condition that requires me to take medication. I was on a short acting med for as long as it worked because I do not want to be on anything too strong if need not be.
Avatar m tn Did you ask the civvy docs for something less powerful than oxy? Oxycontin may be a good choice for you in that it is a long-acting medication giving you close to 24/7 pain coverage. However, if you take it for a month or so, you will have physical dependence on it, and since you're in a bad spot for medical care, that may cause more problems than it's worth. It appears your only option is to go back to the doctor and explain your dilemma and see what they can come up with.
Avatar f tn Hi, I wanted to know if the pregnancy came to term and the baby was alright? Were you in bad pain during the whole pregnancy? I would love to know as I 'm thinking of getting pregnant and would like to know what to expect.
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar f tn In my personal opinion pain medication under the doctors orders still can be dangerous especially the withdraws the baby will have in the hospital and the development of baby.. There is tons of people with success stories but I will tell you from witnessing this from a hospital I worked at they will automatically treat ur baby with wd symptoms..which is what they have to do to protect ur baby.. but as long as ur under doctors care you are doing the right thing.
Avatar n tn it is almost impossible to get off with no ill effects..but u can lessen the wd effects considerable..lots of good info in the health pages..
Avatar f tn Then, 2-3 years ago, I fell down some stairs, and now I have sciatica in my left leg. Yay clumsiness! So, I have a couple of herniated discs, some arthritis, plus which, the sciatica. Six years ago, I decided to try pain management. I was prescribed 30mg Roxicodone 4x a day, then about a year later put on OxyContin 80mg 2x a day, with the Roxicodone for BT. Wow.
Avatar n tn I am allowed to take a second 20 mg of Oxycontin every day. I try to only use the second one when I am in big trouble as my nerve damage is in my intestinal track. I had some severe problems in my abdominal cavity that were undiagnosed. for a very long time and that caused the damage. Unfortunetly for me Lyrica helps my pain allot (hate the weight gain but oxycontin caused more gain then the Lyrica). Without it the Oxycontin is not enough.
