Avatar f tn hey there, i had a friend on methadone, she had her baby, she was on it legit thru a clinic tho, thats a worry i reckon. but her baby was only in the prem ward a couple of days, and if he showed any discomfort they give them teeny tiny doses or morphine. but breastfeeding will be ok too, coz he will still get some thru that. now the youngulla is a handsome healthy boy, so please dont stress out so much. they do have ways around these things these days.
Avatar f tn Have I already taken too much methadone thus defeating the whole purpose of a safe detox? Will I withdrawal from taking 10mg a day for 5 days, then a 4 day break, then 4 more days of 10mg a day? I think I never should've got those 6 more but I have no experience with methadone. I only got them after reading I shouldn't quit cold turkey while pregnant and they use it for addicted pregnant women.
Avatar n tn Switching after she is already pregnant carries an unacceptable risk of stress on the fetus. If a woman plans on becoming pregnant, her doctor will likely advise that she first switch to methadone or naltrexone before getting pregnant.
Avatar f tn Most physicians have little to no experience with (or much knowledge of) methadone and how it works and especially methadone and pregnancy. A doctor must hold special licensing to prescribe methadone for opiate addiction, and have the appropriate opiate-substitution training to do so. Therefore, you may not always get the current or correct advice from a general physician or OB-GYN. Your methadone clinic can't steer you to an OB-GYN with the correct addiction training.
Avatar f tn Well I've done some research its somewhat common these days ,it has been proven that there is no birth defects caused by methadone ,there is a 50 50c chance the baby can go through withdrawl. It can be very dangerous for the mother to detox while pregnant, its very hard on the fetus and can cause a miscarriage . I'm just thankful to be on methadone its helped me stay clean and change my life for the better.
Avatar f tn I agree, there are no health problems especially that early in pregnancy... Provera AND I think Plan B both are forms of hormonal BC. And if your already pregnant It won't bring on a period and it won't cause an abortion.
Avatar f tn i'm a 35 yr old female that surrendered to methadone to steer away of a herion habit. I started methadone in Feb., but havent had a menstrated since Dec 31st. Also, I have absolutely no sex drive and when I do have sex with my partner it doesn't feel normal. Is there something my doctor can help me with. It's tearing my relationship apart.
649758 tn?1229841488 I know enough about prednizone that it would seriously injure a fetus. It is a steriodal pain reliever, normally given as a last resort to elderly people for pain. Just DO NOT suddenly stop, that very well is lethal. It is a very dangerous drug and you must be taken off gradually, (so u dont die) and then swith to a non-steroidal anti inflamatory, or NSAID like Aleve, Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Id reccomend getting a seccond opinion about the benneficial vs lethal effects of your prednisone.
662972 tn?1270166301 i have heard that it is hard to get off of but can be better if you wean your self off at a slow pace. there is a lot of stigma about methadone, and you will find a lot of ppl here are against it and i'm sure their points are valid, but every person is different and each has to do what is right with them. i know in my heart i'm not abusing it and am being extremely accountable and my conscience is clean, that's what it's all about for me.
Avatar n tn From what i ve read i think my response more accurately reflect the opinion of the mainstream medical proffession and responses in favour of fetal detox are more in line with an outdated ideology. That is,out of site out of mind. A detoxing fetus noone can see or help is somehow better than a visible detoxing newborn with unfettered access to the complete amoury of medical expertise. Anyways.
Avatar f tn I immediately came clean with my obgyn and talked to a suboxone dr a week later. He gave me 3 options of methadone, subutex, or oxycodone. After doing research I believe subutex has the least withdrawals for the baby. I always thought the difference between subutex and suboxone was that you could take subutex sooner because of the lack of naloxone, but now I'm hearing you still have to be in withdrawal to take it. But you also can lose the baby if you go into withdrawal so now I am scared.
1144050 tn?1261292610 I just watched a show the other night about a woman who took methadone the whole time she was pregnant. when the baby was born of course she was addicted. she stayed an additional 5 weeks in NCIU going through withdraws. she was on morphine to help wean her from the methadone./ please talk to your doctor about detoxing. good luck and please keep us posted.
Avatar m tn medications, meaning they are known to cause harmful and possibly fatal birth defects on a fetus, the are not recommended for use in detoxifying pregnant women.
Avatar m tn The most commonly recommended treatment for pregnant women who are addiction to heroin or other opiates is methadone maintenance treatment. All pregnant opiate-addicted women are advised to take methadone as a part of a medically supervised methadone maintenance treatment program. Methadone is currently the only medication approved for the addiction treatment of pregnant women who are addicted to heroin or other opiates. The fetus feels withdrawal symptoms during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry for your situation.I was on methadone for a year and a half and I have been clean for over a year now. There were pregnant women at the clinic I went too who stayed on the methadone through out their pregnancy, but I'm not sure how it effected their babies.Does your wife's OB doctor know whats going on? If not he/she NEEDS to and they need to know the truth and the whole truth whether they hear it from her or you.
Avatar n tn we are now 10 weeks and very aprehensive we are both nervous because of last time......

Avatar m tn When you say Meth I'm a$$uming your talking about methadone mot methamphetamine? Right? Anyways, if this is correct it seems like your daughter did it backwards as the methadone seems to be the standard protocol from expecting mothers detoxing from opiates. She should have stayed on the methadone and let the Percocet go. Whatever she does should be done under the care and advisement of her OB but here is some helpful info below that you can present at a dr visit.
Avatar n tn t live with the side effects, and want off of meds. The side effects of methadone is much greater than other meds, you will have severe constapation that requires meds, possible urine retention, and sexual side effects. Methadone was the worst medicine I ever took!
Avatar m tn s circumstances, by the sounds of it, require several ultrasounds to keep a close watch on the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby, as you have stated, it's on the low end.

Avatar f tn It could be a side effect of the methadone or even an allergic type reaction to it. I remember when I took Macrobid (antibiotic) for a urinary infection, I had a high fever (102.3) every time I would take it, so I called my doctor's office and they told me to stop it immediately because I was having an allergic reaction to it. As it turned out, my father had had this same type of reaction to it a couple years before.
