Common Questions and Answers about Effects of aciphex and pregnancy

aciphex

Avatar m tn I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
198506 tn?1251156915 I had no symptoms of GERD and went to the ENT because I had a near constant feeling of throat contriction. A previous Barrium swallow showed no GERD. Now I am having cramp like pain under my left rib cage which is relieved somewhat when I lie on my right side as opposed to my left. And the pain extends to my left flank. The pain gets very bad when I am standing for too long. Do you think this may be a side effect of the Aciphex? Thank you in advance for any insight you could provide.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
Avatar n tn I got the Barrets while I was on 20mg Nexium treatment - so Nexium obviously did not prevent that from happening and after 2 years of a lot of tests and procedures and seeing different Specialists, I am now on 60-80mg Nexium a day, untill I can have the surgery. I hate the idea of taking any medication as "every action has a reaction!".
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar f tn It's definitely a side effect. As soon as I quit taking the PPI, I feel normal. Before I figured out what was causing this, I went to my dr and they tested my gall bladder. The test came back that my gall bladder wasn't working properly, so they took it out, which I'm sure was not neccessary, as I've read that Nexium can cause that. So, here I am, feeling the same, and nothing helps.
Avatar n tn I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?
Avatar f tn If you remember, we talked months ago about weaning off Lorazepam and I managed with a lot of pain to get rid of this but I'm taking xanax in stead 1.5/day. I was at 2mg but weaning off very slowly basically 0.125 every month so I don't feel bad especially now that I got a job and need to function fine. After I'm done with this side effects from stopping Omeprazol I'll continue to reduce xanax little by little.
Avatar n tn He put me on the Aciphex to control my stomach acid, and the Domperidone for the motility. I am on Lexapro for anxiety and depression, and have had anxiety problems for two to three years now. 2) I would also like to mention that my girlfriend and I did wait until her yeast infection symptoms subsided to resume sexual activity. 3) I also had several kidney stones that I passed in July of 2008. Do you think I could possibly have more kidney stones?
20922415 tn?1661860103 If pregnancy occurs, progesterone is produced in the placenta, and levels remain elevated throughout the pregnancy. The combination of high estrogen and progesterone levels suppresses further ovulation during pregnancy. Progesterone also encourages the growth of milk-producing glands in the breast during pregnancy. High progesterone levels are believed to be partly responsible for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as breast tenderness, feeling bloated, and mood swings.
Avatar n tn Went to my Dr and he put me on xanex, then paxil( which thankfully I got off and got thru the side effects. Now on zoloft and aciphex for Gerd. It has helped alot (the aciphex) but I still get those pains and when I do it just sends me over the edge. Dr says my lungs are clear.
Avatar m tn my gerd cleared up , i healed up completely and i felt great .....no side effects . u should ask ur doc about aciphex ....... i tried everything and aciphex is the best ....... let me know what happens ....
Avatar n tn Make sure to check with your doctor that it is safe for you to discuntinue use of the Aciphex before you go off of it though. I might also consider getting tested for the H-Polory again because I think its not uncommim for it to show a false-negative, and it can also come back again. Just a thought if your still feeling bad. Also Benadryl works great for nausea, ya have to give it about an hour to kick in though.
Avatar n tn Some foods can cause an outpouring of acid despite the presence of PPIs, and wine, pizza and other foods fall into that category.
Avatar m tn endoscopy one year ago. told I had two areas of inflammation, continue on the ACIPHEX which I discontinued after three months as I felt fine. Got recall notice for one year recheck, called, said I felt fine. Shocked. told no I am not fine, one area no concern, other area metaplasia, was I still taking the Aciphex. I have gone back on the Aciphex but am terrified after reading on websites that I did the wrong thing.
Avatar m tn ll have a glass of water and an apple and i still get gerd symptoms. I have tried all types of drugs and switching my diet my nothing seems too work. I'm sick of always having a constant sore throat and not being able to hold any food down and all the doc seem too do is switch my meds around which never seems too help I really just don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with GERD and take Aciphex twice a day. If I don't take it for a few days the pain in my right side just under my ribs comes back. At first my doctor suspected my problem was my gall bladder and I had an ultra sound done on it and I had an endoscopy done. The results of both tests didn't show any problems. I have migraines at least once a week and take Nortriptyline and depacote to keep the migraines to occurring only once a week.
Avatar n tn I inform my doctors of the side effects of the medications and continuouly, I hear it is impossibl and continue taking it because it is to help prevent this illness. I don't want anything to prevent a illness that I may never have but have other problems occurring from what was prescribe. This is a serious problem that needs to be address.
Avatar f tn but I was able to do it and agree many of us are on meds we do not need.....and with the onset of now knowing how it affects acids we need and prevents us to absorb minerals and vitamins we need.... Know you will have some rebound regardless of how slowly you step down....keep to a modified diet to help with the rebound symptoms....I had reflux from water...so it can be daunting at times....hang in there, it does get better.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I recently found out that I have a urinary tract infection and have to take antibiotics for 10 days, 2x daily. I really don't like taking medication and am very nervous about it; but I have too in order to get rid of the infection. It's a medication they give pregnant ladies quite often-can't remember the name (nope, not pregnant).
Avatar f tn When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well. I would like your opinion on if you thing that the Aciphex is still the best choice and if there is anything else I should be doing. I have gotten to the point that I'm very frustrated because it has been so long since I have felt really good.
Avatar m tn I have posted in the pain management forum, but not in this one yet. I've been having bad neck and shoulder and shoulder blade pain on the right side for a few months. I have been taking Protonix since May, 40mgs once every evening. Because I'm not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit.
Avatar m tn This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.
Avatar f tn m 52 and have had H Pylori couple of yrs ago diagnosed by endoscopy and was treated with regime antibiotics and variety of other meds. This RUQ pain is always right over where my gallbladder is but they never see stones. The latest meds I have is gasx and dicyclomine. Idon't know what is wrong with me but can't stand anymore pain...which if not severe is still there but dull pain and annoying. Any thoughts about this that are different than what other docs have been thinking? V.
