knee

Avatar f tn This would be a difficult question to answer without the relevant clinical details. A knee replacement is not preferred in young patients as the life of a knee replacement around 10-20 years (the newer devices last longer than the older ones). Though knee replacements are usually successful and help in regaining movements around the joint conservative management is preferred due to the risk associated with the replacement surgery and a possible re-replacement surgery.
Avatar m tn In May 2009 I had a total left knee replacement. December 2009, left hip replacement. June 2010 Right hip replacement. In June 2011, my doctor told me the Left knee component had come loose and needed to be replaced. Revision left knee done in December 2011. He said the cement had failed to bond to the bone on tibia and femur. He basically lifted out the prosthesis. He did say that 3 brands of cement are available and he used a different type in the TKR revision surgery.
Avatar m tn Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic problem and total knee replacement surgery is not a solution as the disease is progressive. This is another issue but as she already has undergone TKR the most important complication for any orthopedic procedure is infection. Maintain complete hygiene and strict asepsis and follow up with her surgeon to decrease the infection with antibiotics or surgical intervention. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hello! Welcome to the Arthritis Forum! I don't really have an answer for you, but someone will jump in to answer this for you! There are many people here with many varieties of arthritis, and many different stories to share, it just sometimes takes a few days, with the holidays and that all just now settling down. I would imagine it would depend a lot on the type of arthritis you have/had as to weather is could still be affecting the area.
Avatar n tn I had total knee joint replacement on 23rd february, 2010. Back side of right knee joint is paining since surgery. Twice the concerned has examined and said no problem. continue exercise and walking which I am doing regularly. Left knee is OK. Constant pain pre surgery is no more. What should be done. Now a days I am walking daily about 750 to 1 km.
Avatar f tn Total knee replacements take time to heal properly. Trust me, I have had both knees replaced and know many other with arthritis, bot osteo and rhematoid that have had knee replacement as well. Each of us heal in our own time frame but the general length of time for all to be really right again seems to be around 5 - 6 months. At three months, which was what I was told I should be doing well, I still had a lot of PT and work to do.
Avatar m tn Every knee and every individual differs and if you had a complication-free total knee replacement surgery and no post operative complications such as infections then you can improve your range of movement further by physiotherapy. I would suggest you to take NSAIDs and also to take a break for a day every 7-10 days and apply ice packs regularly and continue physiotherapy.
Avatar n tn Was it a Total Knee Replacement (TKR) or was it one of the Arthroscopic Surgeries on your knee or was it something else? I have never had any knee surgery but have had 3 Total Hip Replacements (THR) on the same hip so I understand the pain and discomfort that you are going through. I've had a very dear Friend that had the TKR several years ago and know what she went through after it.
5106112 tn?1363683091 Hello everyone, I have a TKR(total knee replacement) coming in the near future and would like to know what type of regimen you were put on pre/post op? 655727 tn?1283296048 My Dr recommended that I have a total knee replacement for my left knee and I have a question I am a bit too embarrassed to ask him and I am hoping you answer it for me. I am a 42 yr old woman and I enjoy “being on top” when I have sex, will I be able to kneel on the bed without causing damage once my knee is replaced? Thank you so much in advance.
Avatar f tn would do since they have such a wide range of sizes, others said possibly a custom knee replacement would be needed, and then another said knee fusion or a replacement that would require drilling 5 inches into the tib and fem to install the hardware. Haven't found anyone who has done TKR on a leg with lower limb paralysis using an AFO. That's the kind of surgeon I'm trying to find.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had a total knee fusion before having knee replacement. I am a 31 year old female who had a total knee fusion. After a year and half of not having full use of my leg and severe hip pain due to all my weight shifting on one side because I can not bend my leg it has now caused severe pain in my hip and both legs and lower back.
Avatar f tn My mom is six weeks out from having a TKR where they used titanium but was I was informed today that her knee replacement WAS NOT total titanium. within 2 wks post surgery my mom developed a bad smell in sinuses, a very bad bitter metallic taste in her mouth, she's has had constant nausea for six weeks now along with loss of appetite to which she has lost considerable amount of weight, severely depressed with anxiety now..

Avatar f tn I am 58 year old female. I just had my second total knee replacement to the rt knee on Nov 18,2014. This one has hurt and swelled so bad. I felt pretty good on morning after surgery. Got up with therapy and walked 300 ft. did all the other stuff, heel slides, etc. Well they killed me that night, they put me in that cpn machine and set it for 110. I was in that thing all night. I could hardly walk to the bathroom little alone do anything else.
Avatar f tn I had a knee replacement a year ago and am having pain. I was curious . . . how did they know the glue was deteriorating? Did they do an MRI? I just had and MRI and have been told it could be "mild loosening, bone stress reaction, or stress response". My Dr.'s onlt response was, if it's bad enough redo the knee replacement surgery. How long ago was your replacement surgery?
Avatar f tn I had total knee replacement in April of 2007 and continue to have a nagging pain in the knee area as well as it stays slightly swollen all the time. The pain is a burning and stinging sensation and is made worse when I try to walk any length of time. Therefore, I don't get much exercise. The pain subsides with rest at night but when arisinig in the morning it's back and still swollen. Due to the swelling the knee doesn't bend as far as it should.

Avatar n tn After about a month of not healing on its own, a rod was placed. Fast forward today, and I need to have a total knee replacement. Is it necessary to have the rod removed? I'm concerned because my bone has grown through/over the rod. What does that kind of surgery even looks like?
