Common Questions and Answers about Eczema treatment hydrocortisone

eczema

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed by a dermatologist with eczema / dermatitis of my penis glans. I've been treating with prescribed TCI (Protopic) for approx. 10 months, twice daily. I was not making very good progress over this time. Upon visiting my doctor a week ago he suggested that I switch to a combination of Hydrocortisone 1% & Protopic. I would apply Hydrocortisone in the morning and Protopic in the evening. I did this for one week and made pretty decent progress.
Avatar n tn It could be eczema or it could be puppps. Do you have little bumps everywhere? If so I would talk to your doctor.
1227049 tn?1267237385 As the natural stuff I have tried does not work (I have tried basically every over the counter product available), and through my internet research, I am wondering if either Protopic (Tacrolimus) or Elidel (Pimecrolimus) would be a good thing to try out. I am especially wary of applying hydrocortisone around the eye area, but as I have eczema there as well I am at a loss of what to do about it.
Avatar m tn Hello, Eczema is characterised by red, dry patches which are itchy. If the rash is non itchy then it can be pityriasis alba. Pityriasis alba is a common skin condition mostly occurring in children and usually seen as dry, fine-scaled, pale patches on the face. No treatment is required and the patches in time will settle in due course of time. The redness, scale and itch if present may be managed with simple emollients and sometimes hydrocortisone, a weak steroid, is also used.
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with eczema on the underside of my penis. 1% hydrocortisone seems to make it worse. What would be an alternative, milder treatment?
Avatar f tn Hello, In most cases of eczema no one treatment will be effective. Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes. This is probably the reason that the calendula oil is not working now. Topical (applied to the skin) medication like mild steroids(hydrocortisone)to higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide) is frequently prescribed.
Avatar n tn You're describing hand eczema. Clotrimazole is for fungal infections, and eczema isn't fungal. You'll need a prescription-strength cortisone cream, because the skin of the hand is too think for over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to do much. The tiny brownish dots are blisters, which are part of eczema. One visit to a skin doctor should get you a specific diagnosis and proper treatment. Take care. Dr.
Avatar n tn Hello, In most cases of eczema no one treatment will be effective. Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema — regardless of type — involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. Doing so tends to increase effectiveness and reduce side effects from medications.

I suggest you to apply some moisturizers and apply topical steroids only after consulting a dermatologist.
Avatar f tn My kids and myself suffer from eczema. Weve tried hydrocortisone all the lotions nothing helps. What else can we do?
Avatar m tn I am a 21 year old male. I have been using hydrocortisone 1% fairly regularly, on my face, for almost 2 years. About 3 months ago my face went a little red, and after using some hydrocortisone for a couple of weeks my skin returned to normal. However, three weeks ago my skin started to redden again, and i went to see the doctor. I got given just some metronidazole cream and told to apply this twice a day.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to eczema. Topical steroids is the mainstay of treatment of eczema. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist. Symptoms can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin.
Avatar n tn I have had an Eczema flare up on my right forearm last night and I liberally applied hydro cortisone cream on it and left it on for about 3 hours. I noticed afterwards that the surrounding skin of the Eczema flare up turned white. Now I have this pretty big white border around the flare up. Is this temporary? I am really worried. Thanks.
583092 tn?1218128207 My skin has become really dry in those places that were itchy, so I wanted to know if it was eczema or not and if the acne treatment could be the cause.
Avatar n tn It started with just a patch of skin on his face hear the nose and mouth. We applied hydrocortisone cream to see if it was just an allergic rash. The redness has gone away, but spread over his face. It is like rough skin, almost sandpaper feeling, that you can't see till you are up close to him. He is perfectly fine, no fever, no complaint of sore throat. Please tell me your take on this. Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn i have BADDDD eczema .. Im black , so its leaving dark marks all over my body and is worse since i became pregnant. Im 34 weeks .. what do u guys use ? Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms. http://en.wikipedia.
