Common Questions and Answers about Eczema treatment for hands

eczema

Avatar m tn My wife suffers from eczema and is particularly affecting her palms of hands to the point that her skin is cracking. It is extremely itchy and she has sought medical attention with a dermatologist but the medication prescribed is ineffective. Anyone have this type of condition? Any alternatives?
Avatar m tn In most cases of eczema no one treatment will be effective. Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. If the eczema is more severe, phototherapy (a type of treatment that uses light therapy) or systemic (circulates throughout the body) medication like oral steroids may be prescribed.
1014914 tn?1251084646 I've had eczema appear as a small patch on both arms for as long as I can remember and only appear during the winter months it seems like. Only within the past year has the eczema spread throughout my arms, hands, shoulders, and neck. My internist perscribed Triamcinolon which works great everywhere but my hands. For the hands he prescribed Clobetasol which does work. I've noticed that if I don't use the ointment, the eczema will totally reappear after just one or two days.

Avatar m tn Is it contagious? After starting treatment for bacterial eczema how long will it take to clear up and will it keep reoccuring? Sorry about all the questions, but I really need good advice because this stuff is terrible! Thank you very much!
Avatar n tn You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.
Avatar n tn My hands have eczema, occassionally I have what can only be described as an attack. They itch terribly, the skin between my fingers becomes very red, I scratch and rub my hands together like crazy, worsening the condition. My hands become swollen, then the skin hardens and the whole process begings over again, lasting two to three weeks between attacks. What can I do when an attack occurs?
Avatar n tn Hello, If you are having itchy palms since childhood, it can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema, contact dermatitis, infection, neurodermatitis, eczema or liver or kidney causes. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, non contagious itchy skin condition which may effect any body part and may manifest in childhood.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor for my hands and he gave me high powered topical cream and it was after using it for a couple days that the condition appeared on my feet. I cannot take any antihistamine or steroids orally because I am nursing and now have been using steroid cream for over 2 months. The condition will improve with the creams but still won't go away completely. Is there anything else I can try?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have eczema on my hands and that's why I have many scars on my hands. This morning I shook hands with one of my friends whose hand was also injured. If that person has HIV, can I get it from them?
Avatar n tn Hello I have had eczema ever since I was a child but the last few years it has been more bothersome. For years now it has been on the palms of my hands. Sometimes its worse than others but it seems to pretty much always be there. I have been given many different cremes, lotions etc and nothing topically seems to work.
Avatar n tn At night, repair them with creams formulated from glycolic acid—a must for improving skin texture and tone. For a more intensive nighttime treatment, apply cream and then cover hands with gloves or socks.I would also suggest you to avoid washing hands with soap repeatedly and use gloves while doing any household work. In case the symptoms persist then pls consult a dermatologist. I hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
Avatar f tn Eczema is also known as the itch that rashes, which is why the little bumps get worse if you pick at them. The usual consensus for foods to avoid when you have eczema are gluten and dairy. There are others, but these are the big ones. They definitely affect my eczema. I stopped getting the huge blisters on the heels of my hands when I stopped eating gluten and dairy. It is important to note that food sensitivities cannot be tested for in the conventional allergist's office.
Avatar f tn Pompholyx is a common type of eczema affecting the hands. It is also known as dyshidrotic eczema or vesicular eczema of the hands. Initially it presents as tiny blisters (vesicles) deep in the skin of the palms, fingers. The blisters are often intensely itchy or have a burning feeling. In severe cases, big blisters and cracks develop which can prevent work. In the later stages more peeling, cracking, or crusting can be seen. Then the skin heals up, or the blistering may start again.

Avatar f tn The most causes for the dry patch are Eczema and Psoriasis. Eczema is one condition where the hands get cracked. In this disorder contact with triggering factors like soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, clothing, and detergents causes symptoms. Sometimes sweat, changes in temperature and psychological stress are known to trigger these episodes. Psoriasis is an auto immune disorder that can cause dry cracked hands. Genetic and immunologic theories have been predicted as causes for psoriasis.
Avatar n tn Hello, Silvedene contains silver sulfadiazine which is used I the treatment of burns. For cracking and peeling hands, the cause has to be identified like it can be due to dry skin, fungal infection or even pompholyx. Pompholyx is characterized by a sudden onset of many deep-seated pruritic, clear vesicles which itch and then peel off. As a result the skin may also fissure. I suggest your friend to get the diagnosis confirmed from a dermatologist and then use any drug. I hope it helps.

Avatar n tn This sounds to me like eczema. I have had eczema for years but only recently has it been on my hands. It is an allergic reaction. Sometimes mine heal and sometimes the skin on my fingers peels making them very sensitive. For this, my doctor recommended a steroidal cream. While it isn't dry skin, one of the keys to eczema is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Although I caution you in doing that because it might be the lotion that you are allergic to (as I am...).
