First of all was the diagnosis of eczema confirmed for these dry red patches on the nose? This is because eczema often presents with itchy, red, dry and flaky skin. If the rash is non itchy then dry skin or seborrheic dermatitis of the face are important differentials to be ruled out.

You should not use any topical treatment that has expired in January 2010. Regarding the dry skin and scalp, atopic dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis causing dry and flaky scalp should be ruled out. The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day. You can also use a topical cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment like dermacort(hydrocortisone).
When topical corticosteroids do not provide relief, sometimes the doctor may consider prescribing some more potent corticosteroids for some period, in adults with may be needed for adults with eczema on the scalp, limbs, and trunk or those with chronic/ lichenified eczema. Newer two topical eczema drugs like pimecrolimus (Elidel Cream) and tacrolimus (Protopic Ointment) are reserved only for cases where corticosteroids have not been effective.

ut any grease or oil on my scalp bc I hate the way it makes my hair feel heavy. However, my scalp is really dry...very flaky and if u look at it...it seems like my scalp is scaled over! I also live in MI and its very cold right now. Bottom line is do I need to seek a dermtalogist or just use an anti-dandruff shampoo & oil my scalp more?
I have this one spot on my scalp that itches like crazy. I have always had dry scalp, but lately it's gotten much worse. It's red and sore and nothing I have tried has worked. I've tried tea tree hair and scalp treatment, and a special shampoo. Is there anything that will help with the itching until I can get into a doctor?

Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.

The pediatrician said it was eczema and gave him a prescription for a cream. OUr family has eczema on arms and legs and it looks nothing like this. It is dry and all over. This is only on the back of his head, doesn't seem to itch and is very bumpy and not dry at all. The thing is that eczema doesn't go away one week and come back the next every other week.
What could it be? Heat rash? Allergy to fabric care? Help?

About 3 weeks ago I found two cold-sore-like red painful itchy bumps on my lips and my lips felt extremely dry and chapped. I also had my wisdom teeth removed around this time and eventually the sores went away after a few days.
However, 2 weeks ago things started to go horribly wrong. My left eye started itching like crazy and it continued to get progressively worse (I admit I rubbed my eyes, bad idea).
My scalp and eyebrows are the worst, i know its dermtitis of some sort as my dermatologist in our one meeting looked at it and gave me nizoral for it, the problem i have is it will get red/flakey/itchy so i will shower to relieve it once i have had my shower i can feel this sticky glue like liquid seeping out all over my scalp, this liquid with dry and form lumps of flakes on my scalp and then i lose hair in those areas.
I have very dry skin around the area of my butthole. It is so dry, that it bleeds on occasion and itches like crazy. I have gone to the Dr. before and have been prescribed creams and pills etc, but no luck. I have taken an over the counter liquid for pinworms (I know, gross) but that did not work either. Does anyone else have this issue and what have you done to clear it up? It is mainly during the evening and night time hours when I am asleep that it happens the worst. HELP!

Approximately 2 months ago i found a circular,dry,red patch of skin on my left buttock,further down my thigh there was the same dry,red patch of skin but this time in an un-even shape. Both patches of skin do become itchy if not heavily moisturised. Hi, I'm posting in the hopes that someone is familiar with what I'm experiencing, someone who has the same issue or perhaps knows what it could be. I've always had very dry skin. Many years back, when I was maybe 14/15 or so, I got this brownish patchy skin between my breasts that was very dry, thick, and flaky. It would go away and come back without me doing anything other than applying thick moisturizer. Eventually it came and never left, maybe around age 18/19.
Hi, my daughter is 3 months old. She has had problems with an itchy scalp. Recently it has gotten worse. She itches all the time. We have shown her to the PCP 2 times and the first one said she thought it was eczema and asked us to shampoo regularly and to give her a hair wash regularly. The 2nd one said she could not see anything and asked us to keep skin dry. We have tried cetaphil, seldom blue shampoo, olive oil on scalp but the itching hasn't subsided. It just keeps getting worse.
