Common Questions and Answers about Eczema treatment dry scalp

eczema

Avatar f tn Hi You might be suffering from scalp (seborrheic) dermatitis or scalp eczema or scalp psoriasis. The exact diagnosis depends on clinical examination. Seborrheic dermatitis presents as dry skin on the scalp, which flakes off (dandruff). The skin on the face, behind the ears, eyelids, nose and chest may also be affected. Symptoms of scalp eczema may include greasy yellowish scales that may turn flake off along intensely itchy and inflamed red scalp.
Avatar f tn Hello, First of all was the diagnosis of eczema confirmed for these dry red patches on the nose? This is because eczema often presents with itchy, red, dry and flaky skin. If the rash is non itchy then dry skin or seborrheic dermatitis of the face are important differentials to be ruled out. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face.
Avatar m tn Hello, You should not use any topical treatment that has expired in January 2010. Regarding the dry skin and scalp, atopic dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis causing dry and flaky scalp should be ruled out. The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day. You can also use a topical cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment like dermacort(hydrocortisone).
Avatar n tn When topical corticosteroids do not provide relief, sometimes the doctor may consider prescribing some more potent corticosteroids for some period, in adults with may be needed for adults with eczema on the scalp, limbs, and trunk or those with chronic/ lichenified eczema. Newer two topical eczema drugs like pimecrolimus (Elidel Cream) and tacrolimus (Protopic Ointment) are reserved only for cases where corticosteroids have not been effective.
681148 tn?1437661591 I have tried everything I can think of. My scalp is dry and itchy. It sometimes has eczema or dermatitits in addition to this problem. I've added healthy oils to my hair and scalp and left them in. In a short time, my hair is back to its dry, dull and frizzy self. I'm at my wits end with this. I have loads of allergies, so I'm careful as far as that goes. I don't wash more than once every week or every other week.
3093770 tn?1389739126 I've had a number of bouts with eczema over the years, with my scalp being frequently affected. My dermatologist once told me I had the worst case she had ever seen! Her Rx for me was fluocinonide topical solution, 0.05%. I was instructed to wash my hair every day with a mild hypoallergenic shampoo and only slightly warm water, then apply a little bit of solution carefully, so as to treat all affected areas of the scalp without wasting it on the hair. This method works well for me.
Avatar f tn t p ut any grease or oil on my scalp bc I hate the way it makes my hair feel heavy. However, my scalp is really dry...very flaky and if u look at it...it seems like my scalp is scaled over! I also live in MI and its very cold right now. Bottom line is do I need to seek a dermtalogist or just use an anti-dandruff shampoo & oil my scalp more?
Avatar n tn I have this one spot on my scalp that itches like crazy. I have always had dry scalp, but lately it's gotten much worse. It's red and sore and nothing I have tried has worked. I've tried tea tree hair and scalp treatment, and a special shampoo. Is there anything that will help with the itching until I can get into a doctor?
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms that you have mentioned, one possibility that can correlate with your symptoms and history is eczema skin. Usually the symptoms are dry, itchy skin but sometimes, eczema may lead to blisters and oozing lesions also. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema.
Avatar n tn Hello, Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Internal causes include hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch and heredity predisposition.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff, eczema or fungal infection. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
Avatar f tn Skin Problems Pegylated interferon plus ribavirin are associated with skin problems like itching, dry skin and eczema. However, Hepatitis C protease inhibitors (especially telaprevir) increase the frequency of these side effects: An estimated 55 percent of those on telaprevir (with interferon and ribavirin) develop a rash. An estimated 33 percent of those just taking pegylated interferon and ribavirin develop a rash. http://www.hepatitis-central.
Avatar f tn The pediatrician said it was eczema and gave him a prescription for a cream. OUr family has eczema on arms and legs and it looks nothing like this. It is dry and all over. This is only on the back of his head, doesn't seem to itch and is very bumpy and not dry at all. The thing is that eczema doesn't go away one week and come back the next every other week. What could it be? Heat rash? Allergy to fabric care? Help?
Avatar f tn ] About 3 weeks ago I found two cold-sore-like red painful itchy bumps on my lips and my lips felt extremely dry and chapped. I also had my wisdom teeth removed around this time and eventually the sores went away after a few days. However, 2 weeks ago things started to go horribly wrong. My left eye started itching like crazy and it continued to get progressively worse (I admit I rubbed my eyes, bad idea).

Avatar m tn I have very dry skin around the area of my butthole. It is so dry, that it bleeds on occasion and itches like crazy. I have gone to the Dr. before and have been prescribed creams and pills etc, but no luck. I have taken an over the counter liquid for pinworms (I know, gross) but that did not work either. Does anyone else have this issue and what have you done to clear it up? It is mainly during the evening and night time hours when I am asleep that it happens the worst. HELP!
Avatar n tn Hi, It could be an eczema present in the buttocks. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes which are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Atopic eczema is believed to have a hereditary component, and often runs in families whose members also have hay fever and asthma.
Avatar f tn My forarms have developed eczema type rash (very dry, red, cracked patches) my face is super oily and super dry at the same time! And my scalp is always itchy. What is this? Make it stop! I'm 10 weeks with my first.
Avatar n tn Hello Dr, Approximately 2 months ago i found a circular, dry, red patch of skin on my left buttock, further down my thigh there was the same dry,red patch of skin but this time in an un-even shape. Both patches of skin do become itchy if not heavily moisturised. Then a month ago i noticed a rash appearing on my chest,my shoulders,my stomach, the tops of my thighs and my lower back along with another patch of dry,red skin on my left hip.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm posting in the hopes that someone is familiar with what I'm experiencing, someone who has the same issue or perhaps knows what it could be. I've always had very dry skin. Many years back, when I was maybe 14/15 or so, I got this brownish patchy skin between my breasts that was very dry, thick, and flaky. It would go away and come back without me doing anything other than applying thick moisturizer. Eventually it came and never left, maybe around age 18/19.
Avatar f tn Hi, my daughter is 3 months old. She has had problems with an itchy scalp. Recently it has gotten worse. She itches all the time. We have shown her to the PCP 2 times and the first one said she thought it was eczema and asked us to shampoo regularly and to give her a hair wash regularly. The 2nd one said she could not see anything and asked us to keep skin dry. We have tried cetaphil, seldom blue shampoo, olive oil on scalp but the itching hasn't subsided. It just keeps getting worse.
1041303 tn?1421387341 Switch to a mild shampoo (even a baby one will work well) and it will ease the scalp from drying out and itching. I get eczema in my scalp and have always had to use a mild shampoo to stop me itching. You might have to wash your hair twice a day to begin with.
Avatar n tn My friend's kid has a flaky, dry, itchy rash behind her ear, and it wont go away. What is it and how can i treat it?
