Avatar f tn Could just be a patch of discoid eczema. If you use elocon for 3 weeks regularly, should clear it up. Do post some pictures though so that I can be sure Regards Dr.
Avatar f tn Hello, There's a possibility of it being a fungal infection. Other possibility is discoid eczema or contact dermatitis. In discoid eczema there are round or oval red patches of inflamed skin. Regular use of emollients to moisturize the skin, steroid creams to reduce inflammation may be helpful in this condition. If it is a fungal infection topical fungal cream without steroids may help. You should consult a dermatologist before starting any treatment. Do keep me posted.
1878464 tn?1320559437 I was trying to research this online and found a site for the different types of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (with pictures). Discoid, to me, appears more as rash. What I have appears to be Lupus Profundus, based on visual observation. The site I am referring to above is http://dermnetnz.org/immune/cutaneous-lupus.html (It has some pretty pictures for reference). Listed below are links to photos of the soft painful "holes" that has been led to this diagnosis. http://s822.
Avatar n tn Hello, Yes nummular or discoid eczema can appear like ringworm. Both of them are itchy but a dermatologist can differentiate between the two by examination. If it is eczema then the steroid cream that your dermatologist has prescribed will be beneficial. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin.
Avatar m tn A biopsy showed eczema. However, this has been ongoing for 10 months. All tests for autoimmune diseases have come back negative. Any suggestions as to what this can be?
Avatar f tn If a doctor suspects this condition, a skin biopsy needs to be done to confirm the diagnosis because other conditions can look like discoid lupus erythematosus. If the skin biopsy shows discoid lupus erythematosus, then further blood testing may be indicated." Source:http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/discoid_lupus_eryt.html A negative ANA does not necessarily rule out an autoimmune disorder.

All the above mentioned conditions can worsen on scratching and have a recurring course. The red spots could be tiny bruises.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the picture that you have given,it looks like nummular or discoid eczema. It is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.
Avatar m tn Hi. I have chronic discoid eczema. I've been fighting my last outbreak for the last five months. My skin is extremely dry, so it goes away slowly. This I know, so it doesn't worry me. However, a month and a half ago, I developed this strange rash on my upper inner thights, both of them. It looked like regular pimples, very itchy. The next day, I got a new one, on my lower abdomen and in my armpits, looking the same.
371848 tn?1206207834 Sorry Your rash actually does sound like eczema. I believe it's called discoid eczema. Round coin sized red rashes that may or may not itch. definitely not cancer. Did he give you a prescription for cortisone. He should have also told you to get short cool showers and use body wash not soap. Then moisturize!!
Avatar m tn This could be psoriasis, ectopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, discoid eczema or any other eczema. Please consult a skin specialist. Take care!
Avatar f tn Thats a good question but I don't have an answer. I am sure someone will know...
