Eczema lotion over the counter

Common Questions and Answers about Eczema lotion over the counter

eczema

Avatar f tn Thanks! I have used one of those barrier protection items before. Can't think of the name of it. I think it was an over-the-counter eczema cream. That sort of thing helps big time. My particular type of eczema is most likely from frequent hand washing. The nurse practitioner that originally diagnosed it and prescribed for it said she gets it, too. Of course, health care folks probably wash at least as often as I do.
Avatar f tn My son had it at well.
Avatar n tn My eczema is stubborn - it is constantly reappearing, causing me to use the Elocon far too often than I should be, but because it is so effective, I use it over and over. Is there something I can buy over the counter that actually works? My eczema is the kind that cracks, blisters, weeps, etc...it is not just red and irritated skin! Please help! There must be something out there that I can use with no long term negative effects!!!
Avatar f tn I thought At first it was an allergic reaction but my Dr told me it was pregnancy eczema. She recommended eucerine eczema relief. Its an over the counter lotion. After a week of using it my eczema almost vanished.
Avatar n tn It burns and itches and I have had it for two weeks. I have tried over the counter creams and corn starch. The area is raw in some places. I have not had intercourse in over a year. The only thing that I found at home to work was and old perscription for triamcinolone acetonide cream.
Avatar m tn If the lotion helps, it could be eczema...which is a broad term for a skin irritation, like psoriasis. My children have eczema and when lotion wont take it away and it becomes reddened, I have to use a hydrocortisone cream. They have many brands over-the-counter, like Cortaid, that might help. Just don't use them for an extended period of time. Once the redness goes away, use an uncented lotion, like Curel intensive therapy for extra dry skin, after every shower.
Avatar m tn The next day, it was dry and crusty all the way to the bottom of my ear and the skin started peeling from my hairline to most of the back of my ear. Over the weekend, I put on Calimite Lotion to curb the itching. I am in Las Vegas and have not been successful in getting an appointment. So I will have to wait untill we get back home. Can you help? .
Avatar f tn No about of lotion has helped. Before I go to see a dematologist is there anything over the counter to dry first?
Avatar n tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites.
Avatar n tn For the jock itch I have tried several different over the counter topical creams, none of them worked well. Last week I tried hydrocortizone, thinking it might not be fungal, this made it much worse. I finally saw my doctor last week who told me to try Lamisil. In the three days I've been on Lamisil, it has only been worse. I barely got any sleep last night because I kept waking up in pain. I've noticed there are white, scaly lesions in the affected area.
371848 tn?1206207834 You don't need to buy the prescription version. You could try over the counter 1% ointment from Walmart. This may help and save a lot of money. Don't use to much, use only on the problem areas. The hot showers dries out your skin which contributes to the problem. Maybe once a week or a hot bath would be better. People tend to use much hotter water in the shower. You could also add aveno to the bath water which will also help.
Avatar n tn Direct clinical examination and complete medical history are important in reaching a diagnosis. Over-the-counter antihistamine may also help with the itching, especially if taken at night. Take care and do keep us posted.
983600 tn?1248817980 You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC(over the counter) oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin.
Avatar f tn The dermatitis you're experiencing seems to be mild. Has it recently shown in during the winter season or is this year-round? I also noticed you gave birth about a year ago, so maybe your body is deficient of some nutrients? Regardless, I'd encourage you to take evening primrose oil, a form of linoleic acid that's available as an over-the-counter supplement. Evening primrose oil may benefit dermatitis by improving deficient levels of essential fatty acids.
1418633 tn?1314546745 Others in here have used an over-the-counter product called ‘Gold Bond Triple Strength’ lotion with some success; although I don’t know if it’s available internationally or not. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Do you use any lotion? Perhaps you are allergic to the lotion you are using and breaking out from it. There are several things that can cause a reaction like that. Just try making some changes and see what works. Trial and error. If nothing seems to work you can always go consult a physician.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you wash with an antibacterial soap (like Dial), apply an over-the-counter antibiotic ream like bacitracin or neosporin ointment twice a day, use on over-the-counter anti-itch lotion like Sarna lotion as often as needed, never scratch (use Sarna every time you need to), and show whatever is left to the dermatologist when you go. Take care. Dr.
Avatar f tn thanks, we are thinking of just stopping the prescription ointments for a while, see how it does, and using over the counter medications. I'm new to MedHelp, how do I get a dermatologists to reply???? I don't even know how I got in, "this discussion is related to black dots on shaft of penis and scrotum."!!!!!!! I couldn't easily find the ask a question green icon????
Avatar n tn Hello, You have to consult your dermatologist for the prescription of steroids because you do not get them over the counter. In the meanwhile, you can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. Also apply plenty of good fragrance free emollients to prevent moisture loss from the skin. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and God bless.
Avatar n tn Hello, Apart from steroids which is basic treatment for eczema, topical emmolients to prevent moisture loss from the skin can be used because Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. If the eczema is more severe, phototherapy (a type of treatment that uses light therapy) or systemic (circulates throughout the body) medication like oral steroids may be prescribed but they are not used in children.
Avatar m tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibility of contact dermatitis and eczema should be evaluated. Chronic fungal infections can also cause such symptoms. Get it evaluated from a dermatologist and get a KOH examination of the skin scrapings done to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the advice! I tried something over-the-counter, but its hard to read all the ingredients since they're in Japanese. From what I can understand the ointment I bought has acetic acid, and isopropyl methyl phenol in it. I started applying it and over the course of a week the rash has cleared! I'm really relieved.
