Avatar f tn Hi doc i just want to know if keratosis pilaris always red in color because mine is not red its just like bumpy chicken skin and its itchy when i scratched it pimples will appear is it KP?
Avatar m tn Other differentials will be seborrheic dermatitis and keratosis pilaris. Seborrheic dermatitis may present with a greasy yellow scale while keratosis pilaris may present with a rough sandpapery feel over the skin. I would suggest that skin scrapings of the affected skin be obtained and microscopically evaluated. This will help ascertain if a fungal or bacterial infection is present.
Avatar f tn If there are flesh colored bumps then they can possibly be Keratosis Pilaris. Keratosis Pilaris is a genetic condition. The bumps are hair follicles clogged with a naturally-occurring hard protein called keratin that protects the skin. Another possibility is guttate psoriasis which causes small, red, and scaly teardrop-shaped spots on the arms, legs, and middle of the body. Few other possibilities could be allergies, eczema, fungal infection etc.

Avatar n tn If it helps your response, I also have eczema and keratosis pilaris. I have been using a selenium sulfide shampoo for the eczema along with washing with an anti-eczema soap (ZNP Bar). I take a Vitamin A supplement for the keratosis pilaris. I am not sure what's causing this. Is it due to environmental factors (chafing against clothes?), an allergy, a fungus or what. I always recall the skin on my penis head being somewhat "creased" but not bumpy.
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of keratosis pilaris. Keratosis pilaris occurs when the human body produces excess keratin, a natural protein in the skin. There is currently no known cure for keratosis pilaris, however, there are effective treatments available which make its symptoms less apparent. Treatment includes tretinoin or Triamcinolone cream or Adapalene, a retinoid medication.
Avatar m tn Keratosis Pilaris If you have rough, bumpy skin you may have a condition known as Keratosis Pilaris. Keratosis Pilaris (or KP) is a common dry skin condition that looks like goose bumps. These bumps can either appear skin-colored or red and are most commonly found on the arms and legs. Your dermatologist can tell by examining your skin whether you have KP. KP is caused by a build-up of keratin (a protein that makes up skin, hair and nails).

Avatar f tn At a young age I was diagnosed with Psoriasis and Keratosis pilaris, both of which have gotten better with age. About 7 years ago, I had unprotected sex with someone who's status I don't know. I don't recall getting sick after our few incounters. But last year at the age of 27, my dermatologist diagnosed me with rosacea (which my father has) and seborrheic dermatitis. When I started researching about both I found that seborrheic dermatitis is associated with HIV.
Avatar n tn I thought I had Keratosis Pilaris on the back of my arms (both) and also some tiny bumps on my chest, however I went to my doctor and he told me it was Folliculitis, dry skin. Said to apply baby oil after showering etc.... Well these bumps don't itch at all, really doesn't bother me, and doing some research I found that most people say Folliculitis is itchy? Mine doesnt itch at all, and looking at photos it looks more like KP than anything.
Avatar m tn t have the bumps on my face, just the redness, but in addition i also have these bumps on my arms the dermatologist told me that this was keratosis pilaris. I have heard that there is no cure for rosacea, but is there a cure for keratosis pilaris?
Avatar f tn Do you think they can be related to your hair follicles? Keratosis Pilaris is something that makes little bumps on skin and is common especially on arms. Some people call it chicken skin which is so charming. I've had this. It's very very common! It's basically excess skin cells building up around hair follicles and its hereditary. For me, what worked was a balm on the skin (aveeno eczema balm -- although I don't have eczema OR aquaphor).

Avatar n tn Hi, This is called Keratosis pilaris.Keratosis pilaris (KP, also follicular keratosis) is a very common genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin and hence colloquially referred to as "chicken skin" as well as "meat bumps". Keratosis pilaris occurs as excess keratin, a natural protein in the skin, accumulates within the hair follicles forming hard plugs (process known as hyperkeratinization).
Avatar f tn Hi, This may be a case of keratosis pilaris. Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition which involves the hair follicles. It is a harmless condition but may be discomforting to have. It may present with raised bumps on the skin which is rough and sand papery to the touch. The cause of which is not known and may be present in childhood. The condition may resolve as one grows older. Have you had this assessed by a dermatologist before? I suggest that you have this assessed.

Avatar n tn I took my 2 year old to the dermatoligist due to the bumps, reddness and ruff texture on her arms and face. The doctor told me She had Keratosis Pilaris, and other than mild soaps, and lotions, she said there was nothing to really due. I've been bathing her in Ivory soap and using Cetaphil lotion. Her face looks better, but her arms and hands look worse, and her fingers and elbows look kind of spotted, from a distance they look like litte warts, but the skin isn't raised or anything.
