Common Questions and Answers about Eczema in your ear canal

eczema

Avatar m tn I have for the past year had these black dots (see picture) in my ear. I have eczema of my inner ear canal in both ears (i do not apply any lotions), and I am regularly 'yelled' at by my ENT to stop cleaning my ears daily with cotton buds. These black dots only appear in my right ear, they have not gotten any worse, I have tried scratching at them and they will look white as some do in the image. Anyone have an idea of what they are? or how I can treat/remove them?
Avatar n tn I suffer from what my doctor calls, ear eczema, the canal of my left ear gets very dry and inflames, causing great pain and discomfort leading to an infection. Two years ago I had about ten ear infections in the space of twelve months. Each time I was told it was just an infection, got prescribed antibiotics and that was that, it's only just come to light about the dry ear. Otomize earspray is what I've been prescribed and it's worked.
Avatar m tn For months now I've had an itch in my ear, I've rub my canal opening raw. This makes the whole side of my head itch. I've been to the Doctor, who sent me to the ear, nose and throat specialist, that said I have eczema, gave me a creme, no help. Now, my canina tooth started hurting and is extremely sensitive cold. I've taken 20 days worth of amoxicillin with temporary relief, then it comes back afew days later. One more thing, not sure this has anything to do with the rest.
Avatar m tn Swimmers ear is infection of external ear canal. Ear canals can get swollen due to infections when it is referred to as otitis externa. The infecting agents are bacteria, fungi and viral. Bacterial infections need antibiotics and fungal anti fungal agents. Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy. Keep the ear canals dry and complete your antibiotic course, apply the ear drops meticulously.
Avatar n tn It itches very bad and is just inside the inner canal. White crusty flakes come out into my ear. The doctor gave me ear drops, but it seems to just make it drier. My wife has been putting monistat cream in there with a Q-tip which makes it feel better. Do you know what medication I can use to permanently get rid of this? We live in a very low humidity area and it is very dry here.
Avatar n tn Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If your friend had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too. The enumerated the possibilities can be investigated or ruled out one by one by your physician, ENT and dentist. Take care!
Avatar f tn For several years my left ear canal has been itching - sometimes to the point my husband likes me to a dog with fleas! My doctor checked for infection - none, but said the skin way dry which explains the crusty flakes that sometimes appear. When an itch comes on there is nothing that I can do to control myself no matter the company I am in. I've tried lotions and even mineral oil and nothing seems to work. Typically is worse when I'm right out of the shower or during the night.
Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to eczema skin. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g.
Avatar f tn d been punched in the side of the head. The exterior of my ear feels sore and bruised and painful even to the touch. Inside the ear canal feels achey and uncomfortable with the occasional 'cotton wool' sounding muffles in my ear. It's also still very itchy and I'm trying my best not to scratch, but I just caved in a moment ago and pulled out some dark green/almost black ear wax!
Avatar m tn Trying to remove on your own with something like a Q tip is a bad idea as it can push it further into your canal. Foreign objects in the ear can cause irritation, infection or hearing loss. While it is not a serious emergency, it does need to be removed and within a day is ideal.
Avatar n tn This may be associated with severe pain on moving your outer ear, pain or discomfort in or around your ear, itching, or feeling of fullness , stuffiness in your ear and decreased or muffled hearing. This condition may also cause the outer ear to appear red with scaly or flaking skin. Are there other signs or symptoms present? It would be best to have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. An otoscope needs to be used to see the inside o f the ear. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn It is best to apply it and than rub your cats ear to help the medicine work its way into the ear canal that way if the cats shakes its head the medicine is still going in Best of luck
Avatar m tn You do need drops to clear up infection when that happens or it could go on for quite a while in that same pattern (itch, crust over, flakes out your ear, itch, builds up crust again etc...). 3). You can use some kind of drop to keep excema at bay after you clear up the infection but I can't remember the name of it. Ask a skin Dr.
Avatar f tn s disease, otosclerosis, middle ear infections, wax in your ear canal and TMJ), or auditory nerve (which carries signals from your inner ear to your brain like acoustic neuroma), and side-effects of medicines (aspirin, quinine, some antibiotics etc). Tinnitus can also be stress related. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Take care!
Avatar n tn Exostoses and osteomas, on the other hand, are benign bony tumors of the ear canal These may grow large enough to block the ear canal, trap wax in the canal, and interfere with hearing. Are there signs or symptoms present? If a cyst becomes painful, it may be infected. Treatment may include antibiotics or removal of the cyst. It would be best to have it evaluated by an ear specialist also to rule out other causes.
Avatar n tn Itching, and a feeling of fullness inside the ear - usually the first sign of infection * Swelling of the ear canal * Watery discharge from the ear * Severe pain and tenderness in the ear - especially when moving the head and jaw, or gently pulling the earlobe. Unlike a middle ear infection (otitis media), the pain of an ear canal inflammation or infection is worse when you chew, when you press on the "tag" in front of the ear, or when you wiggle your earlobe.
Avatar n tn Ugh, ya. see your doctor. One thing you can try and I am a fan of cleaning our ears out is a product like Debrox ear drops. It's a safe way to remove wax. Don't use a q tip or anything in there. I had a small sore inside my ear canal at one time that took a while to hear as well. You sound to be describing that. Your ears clear up after you are awake a bit? Again, see your doctor for evaluation.
Avatar f tn However, you cannot use them if you have fluid in ear. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to the Hearing Loss community! What type of earmold do you have for your hearing aids? Is it blocking off pretty much all of your ear canal? The purpose of the tubes is to let your middle ear "breathe." An earmold blocking off your ear canal would prevent that from happening. If stuff is accumulating in your middle ear, it could push out the tubes. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn Hi : I have already made a comment right above, but just remembered that my nurse told me that it could possibly be your ears draining, if you've had water in your ear from either swimming or an infection in your sinus'... just a thought. It made sense to me.. I was sick a week ago, but this leaking of my ear has gone on for a month now.. this is also not the first time I have had this problem...
Avatar f tn it is mostly in my left ear sometimes both but that is very seldom happens.sometimes like it will get louder if i am talking or something like it even wakes me up in my sleep.i even like my own heartbeat or a wind sound.if you could help me that would be great and my prayer would be answered.thanks so much.
Avatar f tn when it is humid out i blow dry the ears, when it rains i blow dry the ears no bath just blow dry. If there is excessive hair in the ear canal i pull it with tweezers and my dogs love it and this allows more air flow which with stop stinky ear problems. I am not a vet nor vet tech if you do anything you read online to your dogs check with a professional first. ARE YOUR DOGS EARS REALLY LONG? use a head band a few hours a day ir at night get those ears up and let air into the ear.
