Common Questions and Answers about Eczema in the groin

eczema

Avatar m tn Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema.
Avatar n tn You probably have eczema in the groin area. Their are dozens of posts on this site and others concerning the same symptoms. My whole scrotum turns red and sometime the leg creases. None of the medication the doctors gave me do anything. I do not itch unless it turns really red. But when you read about eczema it usually itches and turns red after you scratch it. I never scratch, but it turns red sometimes within minuets. The area gets so dark in color it looks brown.

Avatar n tn Hi, I have a really itchy red type of bumpy rash around my lower stomach, and groin area. It actually started in the groin area. I work in a refinery and have to use porta cans a lot. I don't know what it is, but it is very itchy, and very painful now. I have tried the clolotromin, and benedryl clear anti itch, but nothing is helping.
Avatar n tn It has never spread, and has always remained in the same place, right above and at the creases of my thighs and groin, along the edge of my pubic bush. The skin is kind of brown, and it exhibits reduced sensation, kind of like it's too dry. It doesn't noticeably itch. I am just puzzled, because it has never gone away for years, and I have no idea what to do about it.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be eczema or ringworm groin. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. It does not look like any STD. I would suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist as treatment for both is entirely different. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Avatar n tn My groin is always damp due to whatever this is. If i sit down for a period of time or if i am in bed with the covers on it become much worse. I asked my doctor and she had told me it is jock itch or just a sweating problem but i can garantee it is not either of those thing. I know ppl who have jock itch and it isn't that and it isnt causing me to sweat but to become damp and clammy. It might have moved to my feet too. They look normal but they constantly get wet.
Avatar n tn Ok so lately I have been very itchy in the arm, leg, groin area. It seems that heat or warm water makes it worse. When I sweat it is almost unbearable in the groin and private areas. There is red spots and bumbs in my groin area and rear area, which are very itchy. There is actually even a few red spots on my privates, I have recently been applying neosporan to the privates and it seems to help with the redness.
1573600 tn?1301974932 Hello Dr. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I developed intense itchiness on the left side of my groin. The first time it appeared was four months ago. It went away for a while then came back early this month. The intense itchiness in the groin continued and now it's on both sides of my groin. Initially it started as a raised wrinkled bump. It is the same color as the skin around it. There are no blisters or open sores. The area becomes inflamed and thick when scratched.
Avatar m tn For the last 3 weeks I have a rash on my inner thigh, which has a light itch and some peeling. The last week or so it has spread to the scrotum and now it is bright red in color. I don't think it is jock itch because from what I have read jock itch should have a define outer edge and doesn't normally spread to the scrotum. I was daily and have use powders to ensure it stays dry. What could this be?
Avatar m tn Hello, Red bumps are not found in eczema but the dry red patches on penis and scrotum are indicative of eczema. Moreover you have had the rashes for so long, so chances of it being due to eczema are more. The bumps can be due to an irritation caused by rubbing with clothes, sweat rashes, irritated hair follicles or if they itch severely then scabies can be a possibility. A dermatologist’s examination is mandatory to confirm a diagnosis. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, Tinea cruris or fungal skin infection of the groin, presents with any of the following symptoms: groin becomes itchy and irritable, red rash with a definite edge or border. The conditions fungi like best are warm, moist and airless. Sometimes the infection spreads to the skin on other parts of the body. Over-the-counter anti fungal medications may help. Another differential is folliculitis which is inflammation of the hair follicles.
Avatar m tn Moisture, irritation, and bacterial overgrowth can result in fungal growth in the groins which can also spread to the scrotum and cause itching. Wear cotton undergarments. Maintain good hygiene. You may try using over the counter antifungal cream Clotrimazole for local application. The small bump could possibly be a boil or follculitis. See a doctor and discuss your concerns. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn This dry flaky skin seems like eczema/irritation. Scratching can worsen it. Try using an over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone and apply it twice a day, till you wait for an appointment to see a doctor, in case it doesn't go away in 2 weeks. Moisturize it often as well, to help you scratch less. Vaginal discharge is normal most of the times.
Avatar m tn ve been there for about 3yrs and sometimes they itch really bad in the winter and sometimes in the summer just recently i've had the same itching behind my knees and random itching on my thighs, legs and sometimes my buttocks could those random itchings be a form of eczema? how can i suppress it? and do you think a strict diet will prevent it from itching as bad? Avatar n tn I have a swollen lymph node on my groin.. eczema all over my body, and sore gums could this be sympthoms of HIV or Herpes?
Avatar m tn If it is due to eczema, you can apply good quality moisturizers. the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. Doing so tends to increase effectiveness and reduce side effects from medications. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Avatar f tn When I do scratch they itch even more. They are located on both sides of my groin / vulva area at the same time. They are not in clusters but there is more than one on each side. Wondering if this may be herpes? Or another Std ? Or something else?
Avatar n tn Don't worry....These bumps are likely boils, which can occur anywhere on the body but tend to appear in the groin, underarm & genital areas. Boils are a sign of hormonal changes, sometimes due to dietarty changes or sugar level fluctuation. I get them particularly when I've had too much sugar. If they become really big, your gyn can drain them & try to get the core out. You might be tested for diabetes and become more concerned w/your diet. One thing more about boils...
Avatar m tn Vanos and other highly potent topical corticosteroids can cause the skin to thin. In the armpit and groin area the skin is already thin, more thinning leads to the skin cracking and possible scarring. Ask the doctor about low potency topical corticosteroids, such as Desonide, for those areas.
Avatar n tn I developed this same problem in high school, then when I joined the Marines it got much worse. The 4 years I was in the Marines it was diagnosed as eczema, jock itch, dermatitis, external yeast infection, etc. Some creams would remedy it for a couple days but it would always return. I actually have a small tough scar tissue area on my scrotum and my eyelids are more wrinkled than they should be. last year I went to see an allergist for seasonal allergies that cause me chronic sinus infections.
