Common Questions and Answers about Eczema in ear canal treatment

Avatar m tn I have for the past year had these black dots (see picture) in my ear. I have eczema of my inner ear canal in both ears (i do not apply any lotions), and I am regularly 'yelled' at by my ENT to stop cleaning my ears daily with cotton buds. These black dots only appear in my right ear, they have not gotten any worse, I have tried scratching at them and they will look white as some do in the image. Anyone have an idea of what they are? or how I can treat/remove them?
Avatar n tn I suffer from what my doctor calls, ear eczema, the canal of my left ear gets very dry and inflames, causing great pain and discomfort leading to an infection. Two years ago I had about ten ear infections in the space of twelve months. Each time I was told it was just an infection, got prescribed antibiotics and that was that, it's only just come to light about the dry ear. Otomize earspray is what I've been prescribed and it's worked.
Avatar n tn It itches very bad and is just inside the inner canal. White crusty flakes come out into my ear. The doctor gave me ear drops, but it seems to just make it drier. My wife has been putting monistat cream in there with a Q-tip which makes it feel better. Do you know what medication I can use to permanently get rid of this? We live in a very low humidity area and it is very dry here.
Avatar m tn For months now I've had an itch in my ear, I've rub my canal opening raw. This makes the whole side of my head itch. I've been to the Doctor, who sent me to the ear, nose and throat specialist, that said I have eczema, gave me a creme, no help. Now, my canina tooth started hurting and is extremely sensitive cold. I've taken 20 days worth of amoxicillin with temporary relief, then it comes back afew days later. One more thing, not sure this has anything to do with the rest.
Avatar m tn Swimmers ear is infection of external ear canal. Ear canals can get swollen due to infections when it is referred to as otitis externa. The infecting agents are bacteria, fungi and viral. Bacterial infections need antibiotics and fungal anti fungal agents. Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy. Keep the ear canals dry and complete your antibiotic course, apply the ear drops meticulously.
Avatar m tn Revolution is primarily a treatment for fleas in cats and dogs but it is approved for ear mites in both.
Avatar f tn For several years my left ear canal has been itching - sometimes to the point my husband likes me to a dog with fleas! My doctor checked for infection - none, but said the skin way dry which explains the crusty flakes that sometimes appear. When an itch comes on there is nothing that I can do to control myself no matter the company I am in. I've tried lotions and even mineral oil and nothing seems to work. Typically is worse when I'm right out of the shower or during the night.
Avatar n tn Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If your friend had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too. The enumerated the possibilities can be investigated or ruled out one by one by your physician, ENT and dentist. Take care!
Avatar n tn Exostoses and osteomas, on the other hand, are benign bony tumors of the ear canal These may grow large enough to block the ear canal, trap wax in the canal, and interfere with hearing. Are there signs or symptoms present? If a cyst becomes painful, it may be infected. Treatment may include antibiotics or removal of the cyst. It would be best to have it evaluated by an ear specialist also to rule out other causes.
Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to eczema skin. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g.
Avatar f tn d been punched in the side of the head. The exterior of my ear feels sore and bruised and painful even to the touch. Inside the ear canal feels achey and uncomfortable with the occasional 'cotton wool' sounding muffles in my ear. It's also still very itchy and I'm trying my best not to scratch, but I just caved in a moment ago and pulled out some dark green/almost black ear wax!
Avatar n tn impacted wax, swimmer’s ear, middle ear infection, fungal infection of outer canal, boil in outer canal, pinched nerve, benign intracranial hypertension, blocked Eustachian tube as seen in cold and sinusitis etc. TMJ, sore throat and tooth ache can cause referred pain to ear. Mastoiditis is also a possibility. It is difficult to diagnose on net. Please consult an ENT specialist. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have exposed bone in the outer ear canal due to radiation therapy from 20 years ago. Hyperbaric therapy (dive tank, the same tank that divers use) might help that skin to regrow, as the therapy increases blood circulation in the bone. It might have worked for me if I had known sooner, but we tried it 20 years later, so it did not work. The process is very costly, however, my insurance covered the entire amount.
Avatar m tn As I was always itching my ear, the skin tissue was breaking free from the ear and getting in to the ear canal etc. He prescribed a product called Dermotic Oil (ear drops - prescription only and NO generic). I have used it for two weeks and I am weaning myself off it. I do NOT have any more itchig and I can heaer. Maybe this is is your answer.
Avatar n tn My husband got relief from the psoriasis in his ears by sticking to a gluten free diet. A certain percentage of psoriasis patients can blame gluten for their problems, but not all. Look the diet up online and give it a try and see if it helps. Give it a few weeks to months to see if it gets rid of the problem.
Avatar n tn do you know if the infection is located in the outer ear and ear canal or if it is in the middle ear or both? i have had numerous outer ear infection and an ENT doc told me to put 3 drops of white vinegar in each ear canal ever other day. since then i have not had a single ear ache.
1154548 tn?1262213018 Head tilt may be due to either discomfort of fluid in external ear canal, middle ear cavity or more rarely the inflamation affecting the balance structures within the inner ear complex. A swollen external ear canal lining makes visualization of tympanic membrane and cleaning or medicating ear structures difficult down the canal. Thats also why systemic antibiotics and/or intiinflammatory medications are often necessary.
Avatar n tn The tooth ll5 was sensittievve due to an accident with crown above, now ll4 is same is feels like it pricks in and then the ear pops, i want to have root canal as so sensitive to thermal and cold, i know it's a trapped nerve as i get a sucking sound, toxins from root damage.... How do i get root canal if not on xray?
Avatar f tn It is possible to get infections of the ear canal (external ear infection) as well as an infection of the middle ear (if there is a hole in the ear drum, drainage can escape to the ear canal). A careful exam of the ear by a physician will help differentiate the two. If there is an infection, you would need treatment with antibiotics. Using Q tips in the ear canal is not the best idea. It tends to push wax in further rather than remove anything.
Avatar n tn s a root problem as requires antibiotics it is at the back of the tooth, i get a sucking sound from tooth and toxins in my mouth also my left ear goes deaf due to something trapped, i can hear an feel problem when i bite on the tooth and it knocks my balance and makes me ill.
Avatar f tn If you were going to try this with Wiz, I would perhaps dilute it just a bit and just use on the outer part of the ear canal DO NOT go inside as a cats ear drums are easily punctured. I would suggest saturating a gauze pad and holding that deeply in the outer ear, rather than a q-tip. Do NOT use water in the ear, that will only lead to more fungal issues... You could use a warm water COMPRESS tho on the outside of the ear, this will help draw the infection out.. OR you can order some Zymox..
Avatar f tn t hit the eardrum if you tried), the dog ear canal still makes a 45 degree turn, so you can use a cotton ball with a bit of mineral oil on it to clean all the brown, waxy exudate from the outer part of the ear and canal near the ear opening, and then use a cotton swab with a bit of mineral oil on it to get just inside the ear canal. While there will still be exudate further down in the ear canal, it will help immeasurably with the dog's comfort to get out the stuff that you can easily see.
