Eczema herpeticum eczematous

Common Questions and Answers about Eczema herpeticum eczematous

eczema

Avatar m tn There is one possible exception to this, however -- a condition called eczema herpeticum. When someone has eczema -- which is an enitrely separate skin condition, usually caused by allergy -- HSV can take hold in the eczematous rash. I doubt this is happening in your husband's case, since he is taking Valtrex -- which would make such a complication very unlikely. However, eczema herpeticum can be quite serious.
Avatar m tn ll just say (again) that your symptoms and description of the rashes are not typical for herpes (but you already know that). However, there is a condition called eczema herpeticum, in which standard allergic eczema is complicated by a secondary infection with HSV1. Look at online photos of it. You may not need to see a dermatologist within 48 hours of onset to get an accurate diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Acyclovir is sometimes used to treat eczema herpeticum, which is a skin infection caused by the herpes virus, to treat and prevent herpes infections of the skin. People who suffer from this disorder should avoid contact with triggering factors like soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, clothing, and detergents. Sometimes sweat, changes in temperature and psychological stress are known to trigger these episodes.
Avatar m tn I came across in the internet about Kaposi varicelliform eruption or eczema herpeticum which affects people with eczema(I know I should not be relying on the internet but it was one of those things I just read unknowingly and made me all worried) . I dont have such a problem and I know it is rare but my father actually works as an allergist and might be exposed to patients with eczema herpeticum when they come to find out about the allergies which is causing their eczema.
Avatar f tn Are eczema sufferers very likely to get eczema herpeticum if exposed to the herpes virus or is it still rare?
Avatar n tn Other differentials may include a contact dermatitis which has evolved into an eczematous skin condition. You may need an antifungal cream with a corticosteroid preparation for this. If an eczematous skin condition is present here then you may expect recurrence of the symptoms. There is no single definite medical therapy for an eczema. However, let us determine the definite cause of your skin condition first. KOH examination through microscopic evaluation will help.
Avatar n tn This may be a case of xerotic eczema or dishydrotic eczema. Dishydrotic eczema usually starts as small vesicles which contain fluid .These vesicles are covered by a tough membrane. This may be itchy. The itchiness may initiate an itch scratch cycle which may lead to excoriations and involve even normal skin. Eczema is a chronic and inflammatory process. It appears to involve the autoimmune system .Other causes may be environment and stress.
Avatar f tn Until this very moment ,there is no definite effective medical therapy for eczema. Corticosteroids may help control the eruptions but with a history of eczema ,there is a chance for recurrence in the future. As with your condition ,it is best to have your leg examined. Is there any notable varicosities or swelling of the leg? Any underlying conditions like diabetes and thyroid problems?
Avatar f tn A few months prior to that, my 16 month old son was diagnosed with Eczema and the doctor just told me to use the over the counter Eczema cream for babies. So, when this same rash appeared on my daugther, I used this cream, but it continued to get worse. At her appointment last week, the doctor said that it probably started as an irriation from something or contact dermititis. He said at this point, it has turned into an Eczema like rash. What does that mean? Does she have it or not?
Avatar f tn The only thing I know that clears eczema or dermatitis is cortisone. I also notice that chlorinated water irritates my eczema on my legs so I installed a water filter. And 2 years ago... maybe due to menopause ? ... I stopped wearing most earrings that were less than 18K Gold but even some of those have nickel - which I've found I'm allergic to. It doesn't cause eczema but it itches my face, neck and throat like crazy! good luck.. hope something helps!
Avatar n tn Discuss these with your dermatologist and have your eczema assessed again. Eczematous disease may present widely .They may be weeping and crusting or they may not present with excoriations. Other underlying conditions like allergies , presence of immunologic disease have to be ruled out. Keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Your case sounds like it is an eczematous skin condition specifically dishydrotic eczema. Eczematous skin conditions are chronic and inflammatory and there is no definite medical therapy for the skin condition. Corticosteroids are the mainstay of therapy and they control the symptoms of redness and itchiness. One thing here is that we may need to consider an overlying fungal infection. The infection may only prolong healing.
Avatar m tn This is very important since she suffers from fairly bad eczema, which if HSV-1 can cause a secondary infection in a different location, even if she has already gotten HSV-1, it could cause issues. Finally, in a related note to my diagnosis with HSV-1, with modern testing what is the probability of error? Should I get a secondary test to confirm it, or is one enough? Also should I use a different testing group for the second test or is that immaterial?
Avatar m tn Also the best treatment of eczema is use of moisturizers which should be applied in a thin layer on the eczematous patch. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn few days ago I found out about disease called Eczema Herpeticum, which is a potentially deadly inflammatory disease which is caused by herpes virus HPV1 and infects inflamed skin such as Eczema, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, etc. It will create watery pastules/warts/nodules, which if untreated, will spread to whole face and then rest of the body and may cause death... I love her, and I cant imagine being without her... but I am afraid of this. How big risk is developing that disease?
Avatar f tn I was using the cream for a patch of eczema by my mouth, so when the rash appeared I thought it was the eczema and continued to apply the cream to the spreading rash. I continued to use the cream daily for 5 months because it was the only thing that kept what I thought to be eczema at bay. After realizing what I was doing to my skin I stopped using the steroid cream and I am not using make up or face wash, just warm water. I was wondering if I can use a moisterizer or not?
Avatar f tn This may be a dermatitis or an eczematous disease. Venous insufficiency should also be ruled out here. Poor circulation may also lead to skin conditions.
Avatar n tn Atopic persons are prone to allergic reactions and eczematous states. In your case, you have mentioned of eczema on your hands before. It is possible that what you have on the genitals may be some form of dermatitic skin condition. This may be aggravated by heat, sweat and even sexual activity. Friction and pressure may cause reactions on the skin and this may be contributory to your case.
Avatar f tn as i stated before i KNOW that its not common to end up getting herpetic eczema (also called eczema herpeticum) (which is what its called when you get it through atopic dermatitis or eczema lesions and NOT through direct oral or genital contact)... @ franklinandbash yes hsv CAN be gotten by someone touching an arm (or anywhere else that has a severe atopic dermatitis flair up or eczema flair up....
Avatar m tn Could this possibly be eczema? It seems pretty common and the symptoms seem to match but my irritants dont look NEAR as bad as the ones I've found on the web.
