Thanks! I have used one of those barrier protection items before. Can't think of the name of it. I think it was an over-the-counter eczema cream. That sort of thing helps big time. My particular type of eczema is most likely from frequent hand washing. The nurse practitioner that originally diagnosed it and prescribed for it said she gets it, too. Of course, health care folks probably wash at least as often as I do.
My eczema is stubborn - it is constantly reappearing, causing me to use the Elocon far too often than I should be, but because it is so effective, I use it over and over. Is there something I can buy over the counter that actually works? My eczema is the kind that cracks, blisters, weeps, etc...it is not just red and irritated skin! Please help! There must be something out there that I can use with no long term negative effects!!!
Turns out it was dry skin and eczema. I used an over the counter cream that was kind of pricy at 18 dollars for a tub of it, but it did the trick. It's like aquafor in its consistency but made specifically for eczema. Did the doctor who said you have this have suggestions? I do think you need some input from the doctor who told you that. Another possibility is dermatitis from an unknown contaminant.
Hello. I had been using the over-the-counter version of epiceram, Triceram Cream, until it was no longer available. A pharmaceutical company bought Triceram and reworked it into Epiceram. I can tell you that Triceram (and now Epiceram) is the only cream I've used since battling excema on my knees and elbows. This cream takes about three weeks to actually build up your skin barrier and then if you keep it up (twice a day for me) you rarely have an excema flare.
ll need a prescription-strength cortisone cream, because the skin of the hand is too think for over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to do much. The tiny brownish dots are blisters, which are part of eczema. One visit to a skin doctor should get you a specific diagnosis and proper treatment.

In addition to the psoriasis, i also get the cracking adn bleeding on my finger pads. I find that over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone ointment works well instead of having to use the more potent steroid cream by prescription. You can apply this for a week at a time and then have to stop for a week before applying it again. it does not take it away but it definitely helps. I also moisturize a lot. The most effective moisturizer I have used is Eucerin cream.

The rash under your arms...did you try switching deodarants? Could it be a tight shirt rubbing against your skin? Do you shave your underarms? I'm just trying to think of options. What I found online is...if your rash is scaly, it could be psoriasis but if it's just itchy and red it could be fungal. Underarms are the perfect breeding ground for fungus...
I would take the itch to mean that it is fungal, this stuff gets deep in to a guys plumbing and can take months to clear up. For me, oral antifungal tablets are usually needed.

You have to consult your dermatologist for the prescription of steroids because you do not get them over the counter. In the meanwhile, you can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. Also apply plenty of good fragrance free emollients to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

So please get an examination done by a surgeon/dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. Till that time, try an over-the-counter (OTC) cream or ointment containing hydrocortisone (Cortaid, Preparation H),but it is to be applied sparingly to the affected area. A protective ointment that contains zinc oxide (Desitin, Balmex) also may help. If your symptoms are worse at night, please take an antihistamine like Benadryl to reduce itching until topical treatments take effect.

My son had eczema as a baby too, I found the cream to help him. I have, over the years moved to a much stronger cream.

Check your detergents and cleaning products as they can also lead to break outs. Over the Years I have worked out what flares mine up and what is ok to use.
Therefore, it is not appropriate to treat it with vasoline or lip balm because it will increase the moisture level and possibly lead to spreading the infection. The treatment of choice is clioquinol cream or iodoquinol cream which are available over the counter.
If even after treatment there is no relief then pls consult a dermatologist.

I have eczema on my body and face I've had it for years. Cortizone is the only thing that will make it go away it clears up fast. Just use it every other day if it's prescription over the counter is safe. I've tried everything Cortizone is the only thing that will calm it.
I am pregnant, and talked to my OB/GYN and she thought it might be just a skin allergy, so I started applying a corticoid cream (over the counter). I used it for a week, and it felt fine at the beginning but then it came back. It is really itchy and red, and it has expanded all over the inner side of the finger. It also looks cracked and the skin is peeling off. I also found a red, circular, itchy spot next to my thumb, on the same hand. I thought it was a fungus and asked my doctor again.
