Avatar m tn Too much soapy water, exposure to harsh chemicals, the normal aging process and certain types of skin diseases are some of the causes of decreased amounts of protective skin oils which in turn causes dry skin. The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day.You can also use a topical cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment like dermacort(hydrocortisone).

I went to the dermatologist and he sad it was not my eczema but an allergy and perscribed me Lidex cream.minocin, and hydroxyz HCL. People who have seen the rash says it looks like shingles. However I have had no paid just itching. 6 weeks later it seems to be clearing up but very little.

Other causes are internal organ disease/failure - kidney and/or liver. Take him to a doctor asap for a thorough evaluation. Hopefully it's something as simple as pruritus not the onset of renal failure.

It is thought that psoriasis occurs when the immune system overreacts, causing inflammation and flaking of skin. To confirm the diagnosis, you should get a biopsy skin done. This will rule out eczema or psoriasis and confirm the diagnosis.
