Avatar f tn Cabbage and broccoli are my favorite vegetables including Brussels sprouts. I have an immediate reaction to brussel sprouts though. I've been abstaining from them since I heard about this, does steaming work to remove the goitrogen?
Avatar m tn Hello. I've read that people with hypo should avoid all cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cabbage, spinach, brussel sprouts, cauliflower etc.) because they are goitergenic (sp?). I've also read that Soy should be avoided completely. I am a vegan, therefore veggies play a pretty big part of my daily diet. I don't eat a moderate amount of soy. Maybe a small piece of tempeh or tofu approx. 3 times a week.
704458 tn?1236841243 Try putting asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, beans or brussel sprouts in a pan and drizzle with some olive oil and S & P. Bake until tender and then gratre some fresh parmesan on top and put back into the oven until it melts. 5) Hide your veggies. Eat soups. Cook some onions, carrots and celery (chopped small) and puree. Add them as a thickener to gravies or sauces.
Avatar f tn She eats tons and tons of fruit and vegetables and loves them, especially raw celery and broccoli and steamed brussel sprouts with a little sprinkle of salt on them. She drinks a lot of pop, especially Pepsi, but she drinks a little orange juice and a ton of milk. She drinks some water here and there. She is really cutting down on her pop and sugary things.
Avatar m tn One of our group members, Trudie, gave me this wonderful idea today! For roasted brussel sprouts. Roast them in the oven with a little olive oil, sea salt, and pepper. They sound awesome to me. : ) Love all of the wonderful ideas tigerlilly! Thanks for all of the suggestions, it is always nice to try something a little differently.

Avatar f tn You can eat anything except unpasteurized cheese like feta and brie. And you can't eat raw fish or meat. You can't eat shark swordfish or tilefish. You have to warm up delimeat before eating including hotdogs. Other than that you can't eat what you want really.
Avatar n tn It is important to know that that cooked broccoli, cabbage, and brussel sprouts are OK for us thyroid folks if not eaten often or raw...always eat them cooked, it lessens their effect on thyroid medications.
Avatar m tn you might be anemic go see a Doctor ask for lab test. And drink plenty of water, eat Brussel sprouts and green vegetables.pray And God bless you.
Avatar m tn Lesson 1: A sprouted seed is a perfect vehicle for pathogens. A sprouting seed is as inviting and nourishing as Salmonella or E coli could want, and the warm, moist conditions in which sprouts are produced only make matters worse. A single Salmonella organism on the outside of a seed can easily grow to an infectious dose after it has sprouted. The bacteria in or on growing sprouts cannot be washed off.
764229 tn?1322519884 Yes, it can. Most foods that cause gassiness, like broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts, garlic, onions, peppers, to name a few, can definitely effect the smell of your babies poop...it does mine.
Avatar f tn Broccoli, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts and Cauliflower can interfere with the absorption of Thyroid meds. Some Dairy and Calcium or Calcium rich foods Soy, and some say Coffee or espresso containg foods can also interfere. Supplements containg Calcium and Iron can also interfere. You should also wait for 1 hour befor eating anything after taking medication, also wait at least four hours after before eating fiber, since hormone medication tends to bind with fiber causing a loss of the hormone.
581310 tn?1253029550 s worse and I have recently noticed that they do make a difference (Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, Kale/Kelp, Cauliflower, Soy Beans, Spinach - I may be missing some other foods, and we are supposed to avoid Iodine). I have read that these are at their worst if they are eaten raw. I recently had some Cole Slaw (my absolute favorite) and noticed my fingers and ankles swell up within a couple of hours. I don't know if this will be helpful....
1968945 tn?1325861675 blueberries, strawberries, applesauce without sugar, apples, bananas, pineapples, oranges, kiwis, raisins, dates, peaches, pears, broccoli, green beans (my own from my garden), tomatoes (my own), peppers, peas, carrots, snow peas, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, spinach, turnip greens, kale, onions, yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms, etc. I am at fruit and vegetable eater! I drink 2% milk, also. So, I don't understand why those micro nutrients mentioned before appear as zero on my graph.
Avatar f tn Baked pork chops with mashed potato and gravy and biscuits. Yummy!
Avatar m tn They contain certain carbohydrates called oligosaccharides which cannot be digested in the small intestine but are like food to bacteria in the colon. Cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, turnips, onions, garlic, leeks, lentils, pulses and some seeds such as fennel, sunflower and poppy all produce a lot of gas in the colon. Reducing the amount of these foods in the diet will reduce flatus. http://www.mims.co.
Avatar f tn Remember the importance of fiber. Read up on how healthy kale and brussel sprouts are. Do what works for you, but keep the food healthy, not wasted calories.
Avatar f tn I LOVE eating things like broccoli (lightly steamed) spinach (sometimes raw, but mostly cooked in spinach bread), brussel sprouts (cooked), and the like, and I'd have to eliminate almost 75% of my diet if I actually followed that list. So, I'll just take my Synthroid (once I'm on it) one hour before eating and we'll be good. I know I'm supposed to avoid soy products, which is fine with me since I don't like the taste.
Avatar m tn I agree with Gimel. however, in general, diet doesn't provide or really help thyroid hormones. The hormone is pretty much either produced by the thyroid gland, or it has to be supplmented with medication. "they" say that crruciform (cabbange, califlower, brocoli, brussel sprouts etc) are "bad" for thyroid. However you also have to balance not eating these types of foods with the other benefits those same veggies offer from a nutritional and health aspect.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the info... I've printed it out and put it on my fridge (the boy/men of the house tend to read things I pin on walls lol!!!). All of this info that you have MUST be what keeps you as a frontrunner with self-management? Hope all is well. Elaine - I think a broccoli sprout would be when the broccoli first grows from seed i.e. it gets picked before it matures into a plant; (like bean sprouts).
Avatar f tn I have these strange food cravings for the last 3 months: immitation crab, brussel sprouts, pomagranate, shrimp avocado, beets and sweet potatoes, NO JUNKFOOD, SO IT'S NOT PMS. Im 47, perimenpausal, recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, lower bowel resection last year, and require biweekly B12 shots just so I can be semi-active 4 of the 7 days of the week. After a few days, my thighs are very painful/weak, then I have to stay in bed for the 2nd shot.
