Avatar n tn Our daughter is living at home with us after finishing college last year. She's 22. Publically she espouses a vegetarian diet (we do not), but primarily late at night or during the day when we're at work and she has an evening work shift, she chews and spits almost anything she can find in the kitchen, vegetarian or not. If we ask her not to eat something because we have future plans for it, it makes no difference.

Avatar f tn UNtreated hypothyroidism can contribute to weight gain - once treated, the thyroid metabolism goes back to normal so the weight should not be related at that point. Remember, most of the two-thirds of americans who are overweight do not have a thyroid problem. Would talk with your doctor about supervised weight loss plans (without weight loss meds).
877379 tn?1259664623 I am seeing a therapist but she is not trained in treating eating disorders (but I would not leave her because she is an amazing therapist). Does anyone think a treatment facility would be a good idea for me? I personally feel I am too fat to be in one and if I asked to be admitted to one, people would laugh in my face. My therapist believes I have EDNOS since I go between almost every eating disorder behavior (restricting, binging & purging, laxative abuse, etc.

Avatar m tn Are they referring to people with active eating disorders who are in a compromised medical state and more prone to seizing, or will anyone who has ever had an eating disorder be denied this med? I am not asking for Wellbutrin because of the weight loss side effects- 100% honest!!- but instead for its apparent success rate. Finally, do I simply ask my doctor to prescribe it for me? Or would they have to recommend it?

823968 tn?1245061618 Does your dietitian specialize in eating disorders? If she has any idea what she's doing, which I will assume she does, then she is the one to rely on for the refeeding process. Everybody is different and has a different story, so comparisons might make things more difficult for you. Generally though the idea is to eat meals and snacks through the day, but the amounts might start smaller and increase with time depending on what they can handle and how they're doing, etc. etc.

Avatar f tn m probably beginning to sound like a broken record to some on this board, but there are a couple of things that you can try. You can try eating an apple prior to sitting down to a meal - that will help you fill up some so you won't eat so much. A large glass of water can do the same thing. Try using a smaller plate and you can have a plate full, but it just won't be as much food.
