Common Questions and Answers about Ear pain neck mass

neck

On the left side of my neck just under my jaw bone (not back as far as ear) I have had some swelling without pain for about a week. Yeaterday I noticed it fely a little different & lastnight I noticed a mass under my chin on the left side with more pain & my jaw bone is now sore, also. There isn't a tooth in this area so i'm pretty sure it's not from teeth because it doesn't hurt around any of them. The mass is about 1 1/2 x 2 or so.

Hi, How are you? Can you elaborate on the mass seen in the MRI? Any mass or lump needs to be evaluated further for proper diagnosis. Differentials to be ruled out include benign tumors such as lipoma or sebacious cysts, parotid gland issues, and malignancy. Your symptoms of headache and neck pain could indeed be directly associated to this. Aside from the imaging study, additional diagnostic tests should be done for proper evaluation.
Have also had some physical therapy to my left neck. The pain has improved with flexeril. Still have mass or swelling at side of neck, disappears depending on how I move my arm. This morning I woke up and the lymph glands on that side are enlarged. Not much pain, Can you help me?
and I had the ear pain, it felt as though someone jabbing me with an ice pick....and I also had jaw pain....I would wake some days and it felt that I slept in a position that my jaw held my whole body up....which I know is not so....I also use to get this weird spasm when I would yawn in my throat/neck... Most of that is all gone with my surgery...the fact it is neuro it is hard to track down it does not leave a trace....or tracks as to what it could be...Chiari is very sneaky.
After a weeks of non-tender pain from base of my skull down my neck into the top of my shoulders and along my shoulder on the left side unrelated to movement I went to my my internist, who attributed to muscle spasm / tension and gave me a muscle relaxer that didn't help. A few days later I felt the left side of my neck and found a 'lump' that is fairly deep (can't be felt or seen superficially and requires some pressure to feel), long (about 2.5 cm long x 1.
I too am having problems with ear pain, stiff neck, jaw pain, sinus pain and it all started with a fever and flu like symptoms. I am scheduled for a root canal on Thursday. I will let you know if it has all been related to my teeth. My dentist told me that the root of this tooth is very close to my sinuses. I felt like I had a sinus infection and an ear infection. The fever was two days after I had a crown put in.
It only ever lasts for a few minutes but it causes extreme tonsil and ear pain on the left side. I can barely move my neck when it happens. Does anyone know what this is?
Ear pain, sore throat. CT HEAD CT head before and after contrast infusion of 100 ml of Omnipaque-300. There is some artifact secondary to metallic dental fillings near the base of skull. Im going to try to see if i can get them by the end of the week.My ear pain comes and goes. I never really get ear aches just ear jolts, that maybe last 2 seconds or so.The MRI is not a bad option if you have constant ear trouble etc.Im glad i got mine and its just another thing to rule out with all my crazy symtoms i have.Id ask for one with contrast as well. They inject this dye (Gadolinium) into your vains witch illuminates more things in your brain like blood vessels etc.
For the last 7-8 months, Ive been experiencing inner ear pain (below the earlobe, down the side of the neck - which is quite severe), and neck pain, at the front of my throat along the right side of my windpipe. At first, I thought it was my thyroid - so I had it checked and it was fine. My GP of course, made me feel like I was out of my mind and told me to take vitamins.
I have neck mass on the left lower side of my neck, it is tender and I can't strech my neck as I wanted it is painful. After a week the mass doesn't change in size ( it is 2.4 by 2.7) but I start feeling pain in my thoart and ear. I did take all the blood tests which comes out normal and CT scan which they really can't tell what it is and they send me for further testing which is Biopsy but I am worried what it is going to be This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
I was prescribed Acyclovir, and I took this for two weeks and the rash went away, but a swollen mass appeared on the back ofthe right side of my neck, similar to a swollen lymph node. The mass was a soft tissue mass, and it occurred about 2 in below the base of my head and just along the vertebral column. I saw two ENTs, each with conflicting answers: it is and isn't a lymph node. Both put me on antibiotics and told me to follow up with a new doctor.
Right after this action, my right side of shoulder and neck and tight/tingling throughout. Now, I am feeling tightness under my ear towards one side of whole face, jaws close to ear on the right. My neck pops too. Mostly when put my ear towards my shoulders. I have a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders. But I've always considered to be stress/ tension. Last time I got a massage the lady said my muscles in my neck and shoulders were REALLY stiff and tense.
Sympt:Fatigue,Ear(muscle)Noise,EarachesHeadaches,MouthProblems Had a growth in the left neck which was diagnosed as a "lesion on the brachial cleft sinus tract". Multiple nerves were involved including hypoglossal, glossopharyngeal, sympathetic, and laryngeals (vagus). The growth caused medial displacement and kinking of carotids against nerves and the pharynx.
He thinks that the mass is too small to be causing all this and he feels that surgery to remove it would be much too risky on the chance that it isn't this small mass causing all this pain and headaches. I get the pain everyday and migraines sometimes 3 to 4 times a week. ONLY on the left side. I feel like I have spent all these months with him only for him to tell me he doesnt know if the two can be connected or not.
I've wondered to myself whether the lymph node removed behind my ear had any relation to the mass at the base of my skull. Bottom line is I'm sick of being passed from doctor to doctor without answers. I just want some solid answers. This very well may be nothing, I have no idea. If anyone has any insight or advice regarding my situation, it would be very greatly appreciated. Until I hear word or reason to worry, I will try to be calm and patient though it is very difficult.
I decided to take some left over antibiotic (I know not recommended) because my daughter had some which wasn't finished because she switched medication, and low and behold all of my sypmtoms, ear pain, jaw pain, scalp pain, and neck pain all cleared up. I'm not sure if this is the reason or the cure, but I welcomed the relief. Good luck.
am a 42 year old woman who also has sharp but short breath taking pain behind my left ear, no infections, they last about 30 seconds. I have suffered from neck pain for years but nothing like this before. I am leveling out emotionally after much grief over a close friends death - along with raising teenagers. Could this be stress related or a pinched nerve? I need relief but walking into the ER feels so lame. Suggestions?
Please someone help me, I am a 40y female who has been healthy my entire life. Back in April '09 I had severve laryngitis. In May my voice started to crack & sound different, by June I had double ear infections & dizziness ( I passed out). Given medication for the ears, they healed. A few years ago, I had a similar situation with a small, but slowly growing mass below the ear. Since I noticed it just after I had gotten over a cold, the ENT I saw at the time dismissed it as a lymph node that was clearing the viral infection. More than a month passed after my cold, yet the mass grew noticeably larger (though still small ...maybe 1.5 cm x .5cm). I followed up with my ENT, but again he was dismissive and told me "don't worry about it".
i have a ball in my neck just under my ear on the left, i feel pain when i move my neck and it hurts to the touch. what could this be and should i be worried?
Based on your description it does not sound like thyroid - classically the thyroid (located below the adam's apple and above the collar bone - in the midline of the neck) is tender to touch -- you are describing pain higher up towards the jaw bone which may be swollen lymph glands. The ear pain is nonspecific but can occur with thyroiditis. The thyroid labs usually show hyperthyroidism and the ESR (marker of inflammation) and Tg (marker of thyroid protein) are elevated.
