Duragesic withdrawal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Duragesic withdrawal symptoms

duragesic

Avatar m tn Hi I hope before you started taking this it was explained this is 50 x stronger than morphine and is highly addictive and when people want to come off it they find it very difficult as they get little support from Doctors and suffer lots of withdrawal symptoms. Better to look at other ways to control pain . The patch is notorious for not lasting 3 days and people going into withdrawal on a regular basis. They feel good the day the new patch goes on and bad by the 3rd day.
Avatar n tn d rather deal with the pain then being chained to an opiate type drug for the rest of my life. I already know what the withdrawal symptoms are like since I went through them in the confusion of the aftermath of Katrina (New Orleans Native) when I didn't have access to the patches for over 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn t know where else to put this, but I was recently switched from Morphine 60mg ER to the Fentanyl Duragesic patch. I thought the weird flu like symptoms might be a result of the new drug, but apparently it has to be withdrawal from the Morphine. I'm kind of miffed neither the doctor nor pharmacist even mentioned this could happen. I was naive and thought the new medication wouldn't create an issue with the switch, I was wrong.
Avatar f tn I spent 15 yrs taking oxycontin, duragesic patch (fentanyl) for previous back surgeries. I still had continual pain. 2 yrs ago I decided to stop all pain meds. My body was physically addicted and built up a tolerance. I never abused my medication and took it exactly as described. Initially, I tried to wean myself off-stopping one of the oxycontin's per day. The withdrawal was "nuts". My legs thrashed, I had freezing cold sweats, shivering, agitation-and God knows what else.
Avatar n tn I have been on the Duragesic Patch 74 mcg for about 3 1/2 years. During the last 6 months, I have become extremely depressed. I notice that it is worse after the second day any given patch is on. I have been treated for the depression with different antidepressants and so far have not found one that works. I am so desperate for help as the depression has taken over my life. Has anyone out there experienced this? Any input would be appreciated. I feel as though I am running out of time.
Avatar f tn Basically, they were going to use methadone to control the headache, since it has a longer half-life and stays in your system long enough to prevent sudden withdrawal symptoms. My doctor promised that if I decided to stop methadone, the withdrawal wouldn't be an issue. It was serious stuff. Methadone is a controlled substance, so I had to sign a contract promising I would use the same pharmacy for every refill and fill it in person within seven days.
Avatar m tn I have chronic pain from Tarlov Disease and Interstial Cystitis. My pain has been well managed for 2 1/2 years using tramadol (ultram) for maintenance and lortab for break through pain. I have developed chronic kidney disease and my doctors are pushing me to get some exercise. I have found that with every exercise form I have tried I quickly get beyond the pain control offered bu tramadol and lortab so i can't exercise.
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN ON DURAGESIC FOR 6 YEARS, I WAS AT 100 4 MONTHS AGO THEN DRPPED IT TO 75 AND NOW AFTER 3-4 MONTHS I AM ON 50MCH PATCH... I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OFF THIS POISON.. ITS BEEN A 6 YEAR NIGHTMARE AND I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE IT END.. HAVE A HIP PROBLEM AND USED IT TO BUY MORE TIME UNTIL TOTAL REPLACEMENT.. THIS PATCH HAS BECOME MY WORSE DISABILITY.. 620060 tn?1235515791 The medication you were taking was an opioid. These types of medication will typically require a weaning process. A sudden stop may result in withdrawal symptoms. You indicated you've been off it for a week now, so the worst part is most likely over. I'm sorry to hear that you lost your insurance. I'm not sure where you live, but you could check your area for free clinics or a hospital that serves the needs of those who don't have coverage.
2178523 tn?1337618945 I have been on the 100 mcg Duragesic Patch as well as 120mg of oxycodone each day for about a year now. I stopped the patch cold turkey about 5 days ago and am slowly tapering down my oxycodone usage. I am also prescribed 4 mg of Xanax a day, which I am also trying to taper down. I was in a really bad car accident about 5 years ago and have had a total disc replacement at the L5-S1 level as well as a neurostimulator implanted.
Avatar n tn I have been on various narcotic pain medication for the past 8 years due to back problems and back surgery. My doctor had me on duragesic patches and I was not happy with the side effects since I live in the desert the heat caused the patches to release the meds quicker which felt good but then caused sweats when I had withdrawels, she prescribed me methadone to help with the withdrawel symptoms from coming off the patches.
Avatar m tn , SO DEPRESSED I COULD SEE HOW PEOPLE COULD RELAPS BACK THE WITHDRAWAL IS WORSE THAN THE PAIN I HAD AND THE DOCTOR NEVER TOLD ME ANYTHING THAT I WOULD SUFFER THIS ON THE THIRD DAY THE HALF OF THE DAY BAD COULD NOT SLEEP 24 HOURS OTHER SAME BUT LESS FOUTH DAY I FELT LIKE EATING SOME AND IT IS EASER NOW OVER THE HUMP NOW SO MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG TOTAL BEFORE ALL SYMPTOMS ARE GONE, (DONT TRY TO WITHDRAWAL ALONE HAVE A PERSON THERE TO HELP YOU THE FEAR OF BEING ALONE IS THE WORST)
Avatar f tn After a wek of withdrawal he upped me to 25mcg per hour. I have been on it for 6 days ( 2 patch cycles) and am still in full withdrawal. I have an adhesive allergy and altho I'm not breaking out I. Hives or having a visible reaction is it possible that my body is just not absorbing the medication? Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Avatar f tn t understand all technical junk about fentanyl patches but I do know my body is well addicted and I get withdrawal about every 48hr because the patches don't last the 3 days there supposed to which is why I have dihydrocodeine to. I don't sleep more than an hour a day and my life turning into a real mess. I need to get of these patches but Gp wont even think about it till I've had another op to try to rectify there last screw up.
Avatar f tn For me, the Mylan generics last the full 3 days, where none of the gel-reservoir patches do. I always got withdrawal symptoms by the third day. The gel patches also dispense too quickly with me. I'm dizzy and a bit nauseated the first day, fine on the second day, and withdrawing by the third day. The Mylan patches also stick much better. I've rarely had one fall off unlike the gel patches.

Avatar m tn Each person reacts differently during taper and withdrawal, so there is no real answer to your question. Your particular case should be supervised by an MD. The multiple meds make it more complex. We are not qualified or permitted to offer you a schedule or predict your reaction. Seek medical advice.
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
431814 tn?1205846947 Last Tues I stopped the 100mcg duragesic patch and I went through h**** til about Sat. and then I went and screwed it up on Sat, Sun and today. I had some left and I knew I shouldn't but I thought what the heck the worst is over and I really wanted to sleep so I only used it long enough to get rid of that ya know odd feeling so I could rest and then I flushed it.
Avatar m tn I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once. I was just prescribed the duragesic patch 25mcg but have not filled the prescription, while researching on internet found the ingredients in this patch being some powerful meds that I have never experienced before and I am in fear of overdose, not being able to concentrate on my job or addiction.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Try imodium for the stomach upset, it also helps ease some of the withdrawal symptoms. Gatorade to keep your electrolytes in balance, and provide needed nutrients and fluids. Hylands restless legs help ease those symptoms, along with a hot bath with Epsom salts to relax you and your muscles. Bananas also ease muscle aches. Melatonin or tylenol PM can help you sleep, but I would avoid going to bed so early, that's why you aren't sleeping through the night.
Avatar f tn I have huge problems here. I'm going to try to stay on topic but things are pretty convoluted. Problem number 1 ... I'm on the Duragesic patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours. (In truth I change it every 72 because of fear on my part.) Last appointment told her I wanted to wean down and got a script for 50 mcg. Trouble is, in this location apparently they are not manufacturing the Duragesic and there is no date when they will be releasing more. No info on why.
981443 tn?1250115802 d be best served by asking your doctor about dosages. Clonidine is very effective at helping withdrawal symptoms, but nobody here is qualified to give you specific dosages. Plus, Clonidine is a blood pressure medication that can have serious consequences if used incorrectly. I assume by patches you mean Duragesic (Generic is Fentanyl). If so, you can wean down off of them by getting a smaller dosage patch. This will help alleviate the withdrawal symptoms to some extent.
Avatar f tn When put on the patch, will your body go through withdrawals symptoms? I dont feel ill in any way, I feel depressed and worthless...
Avatar m tn If you want to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms you may want to rethink that taper schedule Marilyn. You've been on oxy for way too long to drop that fast in Mgs. You may want to consider adding about 5 days to a week at one dose before dropping to the next lower dose. Your plan is really not much of a taper at all, and your symptoms won't be any different than going cold turkey. If you want to taper you need to take your time to do it right.
