Duragesic vs morphine

Common Questions and Answers about Duragesic vs morphine

duragesic

Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar m tn )is dumbfounded as to what to give me for pain. I told him maybe a LOW dose quick acting MORPHINE that will get in there cut the bone pain and not hang around like this patch does.. He wants to give me junk like percosets, or loitabs or tylox, percodan, He even mentioned methadone.. I told him after coming her I had rather slit my wrist than take that and have to wean off it one day. I have to have something until I get a hip replacement.
401095 tn?1351391770 Avis is wise. "Fentanyl is an opioid analgesic with a potency approximately eighty times that of morphine." According to the FDA: "Duragesic is to be used only for the management of severe, chronic pain (such as cancer pain) that cannot be managed with less powerful drugs such as acetaminophen-opioid combinations and nonsteroidal analgesics.
Avatar f tn t right and is comparing apples to oranges, but put differently, it would be 288mcg/day of morphine vs. 300mg/day of codeine... or 12mcg/hour of morphine vs. 12.5mg/hour of codeine. I'd really like to know, because if that doc was wrong, and just didn't want to try and help me, I could ask my GP about it next time I see her. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I was wondering if Fentynal patches contain even the slightest amount of morphine in them. A friend of mine is dealing with a terminal illness along with terrible pain. They gave him Fentynal patches(heavey guns) and he claims that someone said that they contain just a small amout of Morphine. He has had some eally bad experiences with Morphine and he is scared to use the patch. I told him I would try to ask my new friends on MedHelp first. Does anyone out there have a clue if this is true?
Avatar f tn I just found out my mom n sister r chewing morphine patches. I am really scared for them. Does anyone know what it does n how u act if u chew them they have been actin really diffrent lately is that why?
441382 tn?1452810569 have you tried the duragesic pain patch for your chronic pain.. Also you proabbly are a good candidate for an implanted norphine pump. I would try to watch so many meds with tyenol in them..ask your dr. about Duragesic... hope your condition improves,, pain is really a curse..
Avatar n tn I am 11months and 5 days clean and sober and am enjoying life being sober!!!! I was given dilaudid in the hospital and I have been sent home on the Duragesic Patch. I had full disclosure with the doctor and he knows my entire history. Unfortunately, the pain is to bad to just be controlled with over the counter meds and I was told that Tylenol will just aggrivate the situation. Needless to say, I am scared to death.
Avatar f tn Opioids like morphine, codeine, oxycodone, oxymorphone, and a few others, are known as "classic opioids." These medications belong to a chemical class called Phenanthrenes. Fentanyl is an opioid of a different class, called Phenylpiperidines.
Avatar f tn The alcohol causes a rapid release of the morphine, and could be fatal. so if you drink at all, do not take any morphine sulfates that are extended release!
Avatar m tn Didn't know where else to put this, but I was recently switched from Morphine 60mg ER to the Fentanyl Duragesic patch. I thought the weird flu like symptoms might be a result of the new drug, but apparently it has to be withdrawal from the Morphine. I'm kind of miffed neither the doctor nor pharmacist even mentioned this could happen. I was naive and thought the new medication wouldn't create an issue with the switch, I was wrong.
Avatar m tn Hi I hope before you started taking this it was explained this is 50 x stronger than morphine and is highly addictive and when people want to come off it they find it very difficult as they get little support from Doctors and suffer lots of withdrawal symptoms. Better to look at other ways to control pain . The patch is notorious for not lasting 3 days and people going into withdrawal on a regular basis. They feel good the day the new patch goes on and bad by the 3rd day.
Avatar f tn At first, my insurance did not cover it (medicare) and my insurance wanted me to try morphine or fentenyl patch instead. My doctor said he did not want me on the morphine or fentenyl patch because he felt it would sedate me too much and I would not be able to care for my disabled son. The nurse fought with my insurance for 2 weeks and finally got it approved.
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes, Morphine IS stronger than Percocet by far.
Avatar f tn 80% chance that I will be worse off with more surgery. Followed protocol at PM clinic, graduated to Duragesic patches 100 and 25 mcg for TWO years/they are no longer working ( took them every 72 hrs until 1 month ago when dr. switched me to every 48 hrs.) Director of pain clinic (NOT my PM dr.
210982 tn?1280983895 Maybe you could just stop the morphine all together and just use the percocet. Morphine is more addictive and harder to wd from. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Doing really good on lyrica so hopefully will hold so i can get off morphine, i have been down to 30mg now for 4 days and dont feel any signs of withdrawals i went from 60mg .
1529480 tn?1291877134 My doctor prescribed me 90 15mg morphine sulf ER for a month then I went up to 90 30mg morphine sulf ER. I also was getting 60 5/325 percocets for breakthru pain. I left that doctor to completely get off of the pain killers. I recently went back because I need them due to more pain. He gave me 120 5/325 percs for the first month, then he told me he wanted me directly back on the morphine. I almost cried because I do not want on the morphine.
648944 tn?1241469694 than morphine. For that reason, he prescribed a dosage lower than for morphine. So far, it seems to me to have been about equally effective, possibly a bit more effective, than the morphine. The only reservation I have is that the effectiveness doesn't seem to quite last all the way through the 12 hours between the times that I take the pill. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have huge problems here. I'm going to try to stay on topic but things are pretty convoluted. Problem number 1 ... I'm on the Duragesic patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours. (In truth I change it every 72 because of fear on my part.) Last appointment told her I wanted to wean down and got a script for 50 mcg. Trouble is, in this location apparently they are not manufacturing the Duragesic and there is no date when they will be releasing more. No info on why.
