Common Questions and Answers about Duragesic side effects

duragesic

Avatar m tn he said this could be done safely and with no side effects...way he ever wrong. I suffered for 2 weeks with depression, no sleep...the regular things a person goes through when detoxing. You can try suboxone if it is available where you are. I never tried it but there are some here that say it saved their life. Good luck to you and keep posting. There are many caring people here that can help.
Avatar f tn I have tried to explain to you the side effects in your last 2 posts. They will go away. If you are that worried about the patch then maybe the patch isn't for you.....The more you over-react the worse you will make yourself feel. The patch your on is a VERY low dose. ...............You may feel a tiny bit nauseated but NOTHING to worry about.
Avatar f tn s important to notify your doc about it - depending on how high your fever is, they may ask you to remove the patch tmeporarily - for the same reason as avoiding other heat sources - too much medication can be released. When I was using the patch (I had to stop it due to negative side effects), one time I had a fever of 103.6 from strep throat and my doc had me remove the patch until my fever was below 100 (and use my BT meds during that time).
Avatar f tn If you have more than one doctor, make sure they *all* know what you are taking. And make sure that you learn all the side effects of the duragesic -- this forum, right here, is full of stories from people saying it is very difficult to come off of, so you and your doctor should make sure that you both feel the benefits outweigh the potential trouble you may go through when it comes time to get off of them.
Avatar n tn Hi Baby, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. However I am very sorry to hear that you are struggling with depression. Depression often goes hand in hand with chronic pain. It can be aggravated by opiates and/or it can be from the numerous challenges and daily struggles that accompanies our fatigue inducing journey through chronic pain.
Avatar n tn Hello again....I did get to my pain management Dr. this week and talked about the Duragesic Patch being partially responsible for this severe depression I am in. Of course they don't have a crystal ball but discussed switching me into another medication and spoke of the conversion table they use to determine what dose to use. My question is this....
433032 tn?1205034345 If not it may be a alternative to all the pills.. I am weaning off it .. I just dont like the side effects of the patch..
Avatar n tn After trying numerous anti-depressants with no results and in some cases severe side effects he started talking about me being resistant to anti-depressants due to taking opiods. There is also a huge risk of "serotonin uptake syndrome" which is fatal if not recognized and treated. Mellie4, you stated that you just started using the duragesic patch....I have been on it for approximately 4 years. My PMP does not do multiple narcotics. It is one or another.
Avatar m tn t wait for the day I have none of this medication in my body. It has so many side effect while you are one it(duragesic).. ( depression, constipation, moodswings, severe loss of appetite..muscle loss et etc )...
Avatar n tn I don't know if its the same kind of patch, but I was on the fentanyl patch for like 6 monts, been off 23 days. My dr gave me the 25 mg patch for pain due to a slipped disk in my spine, I went to the 50 mg patch for a few months. I had the surgery on Dec 20, only 2 months ago. I really liked the weight I was loosing and thought I'd stay on them longer, but the side effects were unbearable for me.
Avatar n tn I have been on various narcotic pain medication for the past 8 years due to back problems and back surgery. My doctor had me on duragesic patches and I was not happy with the side effects since I live in the desert the heat caused the patches to release the meds quicker which felt good but then caused sweats when I had withdrawels, she prescribed me methadone to help with the withdrawel symptoms from coming off the patches.
Avatar n tn I did enjoy the relief the Duragesic patches gave me, I just could not stand the severe constipation, sweats, hot spells, dizzy spells, lethargy and several other side-effects I would occasionally get. The worst was constipation and not being able to go for a week or more and getting sick so bad. I took many MANY different OTC and prescription meds to try and remedy the constipation but had no luck.
Avatar n tn My pain specialist has me taking Duragesic 75 mcq for pain and temezapam for what little sleep I sometimes get.I have been on this same drug regiman since2002.I dont seem to grt near the releif I achived in 02.I am still on worker comp, but have been fired from my job of 30yrs due to the restrictions the doctor placed on me.Now I have been informed that the medicare setaside fund is suggesting I be dropped from the Duragesic and placed on Ultram for pain and meletonin for sleep.
Avatar m tn I have to have something until I get a hip replacement. The patch has worked for pain but the side effect are horrible.. Does anyone know of something I can take? He wanted to start me on Ultram but I had heard bad things on here about it. Keep in mind I do not abuse these meds in anyway. If anything I try not to even come close to taking the full dose. He gave me Percosets today because that is what I was on before the patch. I took them just to not burn that bridge.
Avatar n tn I went a got my Patient Prescription Information sheet and according to it the side-effects do include heaadache or abdominal pain. It states that if any of these effects persist or worsenyou should tell your doctor or your Pharmacist promptly. I hope that you will let your Doctor know what is going on as you well know our bodies can and do let us down from time to time even thought we have been on a particular medication for a long period of time.
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
431814 tn?1205846947 Last Tues I stopped the 100mcg duragesic patch and I went through h**** til about Sat. and then I went and screwed it up on Sat, Sun and today. I had some left and I knew I shouldn't but I thought what the heck the worst is over and I really wanted to sleep so I only used it long enough to get rid of that ya know odd feeling so I could rest and then I flushed it.
Avatar f tn The muscles in my bicep, tricep and forearm would tense. The arm would clench, the music would stop and POP, the arm would fly up and out, as if trying to right hook an opponent who wasn't there. Every 60 seconds for two hours -- until just before 3:45 -- I'd swing away into the dark. Until the left arm got in on it. By 7:30 in the morning, I wasn't a championship boxer, I was a retarded pigeon with defective wings.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar m tn I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.
Avatar f tn Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
