Common Questions and Answers about Duragesic medicine

duragesic

Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar n tn s time to change his patch because as the medicine begins to wear off he goes through a mental withdrawal. The medicine is still in his system because of the patch so he's not withdrawing physically, but the dosage does become slightly lower as you get closer to the time to change the patch as I understand it because certain environmental and physical things affect the patch itself.
Avatar m tn I have chronic pain from Tarlov Disease and Interstial Cystitis. My pain has been well managed for 2 1/2 years using tramadol (ultram) for maintenance and lortab for break through pain. I have developed chronic kidney disease and my doctors are pushing me to get some exercise. I have found that with every exercise form I have tried I quickly get beyond the pain control offered bu tramadol and lortab so i can't exercise.
Avatar n tn I have been on duragesic patches for 6 months now 50 mg every 48 hours and i take a lot of hot baths. 7 - 8 per day and while the patch is on my chest area. I always seem to feel like killing myself and hate the way I feel. I don't quite no the feeling other than I feel like everything is in slow motion, I feel like I can't be still. legs are always twitching, and feel totally meserable.
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN ON DURAGESIC FOR 6 YEARS, I WAS AT 100 4 MONTHS AGO THEN DRPPED IT TO 75 AND NOW AFTER 3-4 MONTHS I AM ON 50MCH PATCH... I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OFF THIS POISON.. ITS BEEN A 6 YEAR NIGHTMARE AND I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE IT END.. HAVE A HIP PROBLEM AND USED IT TO BUY MORE TIME UNTIL TOTAL REPLACEMENT.. THIS PATCH HAS BECOME MY WORSE DISABILITY.. ANYONE KNOW OF A DETOX OR WEAN OFF DRUG FOM HERE.. THE DROP ON THESE PATCHES ARE HORRIBLE..
Avatar f tn Duragesic may cause physical dependence. Physical dependence results in withdrawal symptoms in patients who abruptly discontinue the drug. Withdrawal also may be precipitated by the administration of drugs with opioid antagonist activity, such as naloxone, nalmefene, or mixed agonist/antagonist analgesics (pentazocine, butorphanol, buprenorphine, nalbuphine).
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
Avatar n tn I ALSO TOOK ULTRAM FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND IT HELPED IN THE BEGINNING AND THEN I GOT USE TO IT AND IT DIDNT WANT TO WORK ANYMORE AND MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED ME A TENS UNIT TO WEAR AND IT HELPED FOR A WHILE AND THEN THE PAIN WAS GETTING SO BAD THAT I DIDNT EVEN WANT TO WAKE UP IN THE MORININS AND SHE FINALLY PUT ME ON DURAGESIC PAIN PATCHES AND THEY HELPED A WHOLE LOT!
Avatar m tn My pain has increased recently and I have had to increase my methadone from 90 - 110 ml/gms daily, is there some other pain medicine I could change to that is equal to methadone or even stronger than methadone so I can use a smaller dose to control my pain?
Avatar n tn Does anyone have longterm experience on the Duragesic Patch? I'd like to speak with any long time users.
Avatar m tn I have never had to do bloodwork to get my pain medicine. This time they want me to pick it up because they want me to do bloodwork. My friend was just told the same thing from a different doctor. Is it a new law or are they wanting to making sure I am taking what I am supposed to? I don't like feeling like a criminal. I do take a high dose of medicine. I certainly would never sell them. Anyone else have this done to them recently.
Avatar f tn I have huge problems here. I'm going to try to stay on topic but things are pretty convoluted. Problem number 1 ... I'm on the Duragesic patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours. (In truth I change it every 72 because of fear on my part.) Last appointment told her I wanted to wean down and got a script for 50 mcg. Trouble is, in this location apparently they are not manufacturing the Duragesic and there is no date when they will be releasing more. No info on why.
Avatar f tn m not a doctor), but I would think that if you are on duragesic (the most powerful painkiller on the planet), you don't have to take the solpadeine, and, if the amitriptyline is just to help you sleep, you probably don't need it, either, if you find the duragesic to be sedating. And in fact, you might not need the lyrica. Of course, that's assuming you are getting them all from one doctor. If you have more than one doctor, make sure they *all* know what you are taking.
Avatar m tn there had me on a medication called Temgesic. When I came back to usa I went on Duragesic Patch after a year or so.. I think this Temgesic is the detox meds you guys are talking about. I have a old box here and they were 2mg sublingal. Its buprenorfina (sp).. Brand as I say was Temgesic. Its a great medication for pain and I can never remember having the side effect of it that I have with this patch. I can't wait for the day I have none of this medication in my body.
Avatar n tn I guess what I am looking for here is some feedback from those who have transitioned from duragesic into oral meds. See, I am alone and doing all of this alone is a scary road. Thank you folks...any questions, please feel free.
Avatar n tn Hello again....I did get to my pain management Dr. this week and talked about the Duragesic Patch being partially responsible for this severe depression I am in. Of course they don't have a crystal ball but discussed switching me into another medication and spoke of the conversion table they use to determine what dose to use. My question is this....
Avatar n tn I am 11months and 5 days clean and sober and am enjoying life being sober!!!! I was given dilaudid in the hospital and I have been sent home on the Duragesic Patch. I had full disclosure with the doctor and he knows my entire history. Unfortunately, the pain is to bad to just be controlled with over the counter meds and I was told that Tylenol will just aggrivate the situation. Needless to say, I am scared to death.
Avatar n tn My husband had the same problem with his Insurance, so he called the manufacturer of Duragesic ( Name Brand ) and they go by your income and The Duragesic Co. paid for his patches for a whole year. Look on Internet for phone no. and they will mail you a form and you can fax or mail it in. Good luck !!!!
Avatar n tn I am using Alvogen 100 mcg patch x 4 (400 mcg total) every 48 hrs. I just switched from Duragesic brand name (I was getting these through Johnson & Johnson PAP now defunct as of 05/2020)to these this week. I noticed my kidneys were hurting right away. Has anyone had something similar happen?
Avatar f tn Hello, I am very knowledgeable in this area. THE PATCH IS NOOOOO GOOD!!! Good for you on looking into it first. I, on the other hand, did not. I started 11/07. I have herniated discs and fibromyalgia. I am so sorry I ever took it. It is actually 80-100 times stronger than morphine. It tricks the brain into thinking you have more pain than you have, this over time. When I first put that thing on I thought it was a God sent.
Avatar f tn I cannot advise you especially if an m.d. who was not an expert would not do so. However, I have used fent patches and I know that one of the dangers is rapid absorption when your skin is contact with unregulated gel from within the patch. And that is a definite risk when you cut, pierce, or alter the patch. Odd as this may sound you may be absorbing too rapidly and be confusing what you are feeling with withdrawl when in fact it may be toxicity due to rapid absorption.
