duragesic

Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
Avatar m tn t wait for the day I have none of this medication in my body. It has so many side effect while you are one it(duragesic).. ( depression, constipation, moodswings, severe loss of appetite..muscle loss et etc )...
Avatar f tn m not a doctor), but I would think that if you are on duragesic (the most powerful painkiller on the planet), you don't have to take the solpadeine, and, if the amitriptyline is just to help you sleep, you probably don't need it, either, if you find the duragesic to be sedating. And in fact, you might not need the lyrica. Of course, that's assuming you are getting them all from one doctor. If you have more than one doctor, make sure they *all* know what you are taking.
Avatar n tn I have been on the Duragesic Patch 74 mcg for about 3 1/2 years. During the last 6 months, I have become extremely depressed. I notice that it is worse after the second day any given patch is on. I have been treated for the depression with different antidepressants and so far have not found one that works. I am so desperate for help as the depression has taken over my life. Has anyone out there experienced this? Any input would be appreciated. I feel as though I am running out of time.
Avatar n tn Hello again....I did get to my pain management Dr. this week and talked about the Duragesic Patch being partially responsible for this severe depression I am in. Of course they don't have a crystal ball but discussed switching me into another medication and spoke of the conversion table they use to determine what dose to use. My question is this....
Avatar m tn weakness, tired, confused, non tolerance of exercise, muscle weakness, sleep disturbance.center of headache, Taking only Metformin . You can please guide.
Avatar n tn As I spoke in my previous posts stated, I suffer from severe depression, medication resistant, no insurance, no savings, my PCP is 2 1/2 hours away and should I have any problems with the switch, I won't be able to get to them. Plus....it has been my experience that the laws that have been placed on these type of medications have gotten so strict that it has become very difficult for those of us who suffer.
Avatar m tn only docs who have a license to dispense it can...it is not approved i dont think as a pain medication here in the us but is approved for opiate addiction...read up at this site...
937140 tn?1246013288 I dont know if this is the right place to ask this question but I told my friend I would try to find out some information for her. She was going to the same Doctor for about 5 years never failed a pill count or drug test... her doctor moved out of town. She went to a new doctor about 3 weeks ago and he didnt put her back on the same medication but prescribed her oxy IR's 5 mg. and Oxy 40 mg. ...
Avatar m tn It is very difficult to know anything based on what you posted. First, lab ranges even for the different labs in the US differ so without ranges - have no idea if you are low, high or normal. Second - no idea if you are sick or how you are sick. The tests run are not really run for adrenal except DHEA (and that is really more of an adrogen - e.g. it converts to testosterone and estrogen) so not sure why it belongs in this forum.
431814 tn?1205846947 Last Tues I stopped the 100mcg duragesic patch and I went through h**** til about Sat. and then I went and screwed it up on Sat, Sun and today. I had some left and I knew I shouldn't but I thought what the heck the worst is over and I really wanted to sleep so I only used it long enough to get rid of that ya know odd feeling so I could rest and then I flushed it.

ITS BEEN A 6 YEAR NIGHTMARE AND I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE IT END.. HAVE A HIP PROBLEM AND USED IT TO BUY MORE TIME UNTIL TOTAL REPLACEMENT.. THIS PATCH HAS BECOME MY WORSE DISABILITY.. Avatar m tn I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once. I was just prescribed the duragesic patch 25mcg but have not filled the prescription, while researching on internet found the ingredients in this patch being some powerful meds that I have never experienced before and I am in fear of overdose, not being able to concentrate on my job or addiction.
Avatar f tn Are you taking your medication on an empty stomach? It's very important that you do this. I'm not sure how these medications compare to each other. I do know that we're all different and can respond to these medications differently. I take it you made the change because the Fentanyl was not working for you? Your Dr could very well be right. It may take a few days for this medication to start working. How many days has it been since you started it?
Avatar n tn I have been going to pm for a little over a year now and have been using the duragesic patches for the last 4 months. The patches are a godsend and i can maintain a 4-5 pain scale. You do not mention a sleep aid or a muscle relaxer as part of your meds. I consider them both mandatory for this curse.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know of any alternatives to pain medication? I'm sick of taking pills and I don't like the idea of a pump injecting me with medication. Besides physical therapy what else is there?
Avatar m tn I suggest you speak to your Doctor about an extended release medication that will offer a slow release of medication through out the day. You may need a short acting medication to cover the breakthrough pain and this is something you will have to find out by trial and error. We have all tried several different medications to find the one that works well for us and there is no specific one that will work well for everyone as we are all different and react different to medications.
Avatar n tn Since we are not physicians- ‘advice’ given by other patients should not be followed and members should consult with THEIR medical provider for medical advice and dosage, medication or conversion info.
Avatar n tn Hi StephanCastlecrag, In actual ,, per doctor recommendation I should not be starting the medication for now. But I want to start the medication. I am HbeAg negative. But I want to start the Medication . On my insisting , Dr told me to start with Baraclude 0.5mg (Entecavir) . Should I start this or should go for Tenofovir ???? What is the major difference between the two ???
564735 tn?1263943526 I was just wondering if anyone has used duragesic pain patches. My oncologist is recommending I use these patches from ongoing pain from tumors. I am a little nervous about using the patches but I am also over the pain. The pain has restricted my lifestyle. Going to go the grocery store or running errands has become difficult and I am no longer able to go to the gym. Has anyone had problems with these patches? If you used the patches, how long did you use them?
Avatar m tn my fent patches took up to 12 hrs to get going and rarely lasted past 2 days. so would get an effective 1.5 days out of a 3 day patch. The remaining time was spent in a constantly recurring withdrawal phase ... worse possible situation. My doctors will never give me a patch again.
Avatar f tn Duragesic is the name brand fentanyl patch. There are several generics available that are far cheaper than Duragesic. Since that's a long-acting medication, there are also several others in that class to try. A very cheap, very long-acting pain med is methadone. And it's true that federal regs govern how much of a Schedule II narcotic can be prescribed. You were very lucky to get a 3 month supply for as long as you did. I think it's ridiculous myself.
1271743 tn?1320892461 I am on 60mg MsContin tablets one every 8 hours (x3 a day) and Oxycodone 15mg IR tablets two tablets three times a day (x6 a day) and I am STILL hurting upwards of 9 to 10 on the pain scale. I have been on the Duragesic (fentanyl) 50mcg, 75mcg, 100mcg and it didn't work for me anymore, tried hydromorophone (dilaudid) 4mg, percocet 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, oxycodone 5mg... the doctor gave me a choice between MsContin (morphine) and Methadone when he switched me from the Duragesic patch.
Avatar n tn but sometime i have pain at that areas. Please guide me what should I do. Do i operate them or it can be treated by any medicine. This discussion is related to fibradenoma.
648944 tn?1241469694 Oxymorphone is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The extended-release form of this medication is for around-the-clock treatment of pain. The effectiveness or non-effectiveness for you (or anyone) is simply your systems response to the drug. So the new medication just is not staying in your system as long as the morphine stayed. You may want to give it some time but its effectiveness may not change. I hope this has been helpful. Please feel free to share with us how you are doing.
