Avatar m tn he said this could be done safely and with no side effects...way he ever wrong. I suffered for 2 weeks with depression, no sleep...the regular things a person goes through when detoxing. You can try suboxone if it is available where you are. I never tried it but there are some here that say it saved their life. Good luck to you and keep posting. There are many caring people here that can help.
Avatar n tn I'm wondering why you feel the Duragesic is bad for you? I just started the Fentanyl patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours plus oxycodone for breaththrough pain along with a few other meds I specifically witched over to the Duragesic brand a month or two ago, and that one work bet for me in many way.(It doesn't fall off or leave a glue residue on my kin or clothes.
Avatar m tn com) As for my experience with transdermal fentanyl, when I used that patch, I found them effective to 2 days only, after only 3-6 months of use. For me, the problem with transdermal fentanyl was a rapid development of opioid tolerance. Within 18 months of use, my dose had gone from 25 to 100 ug, and I needed another adjustment upward. Instead of doing that, my doc and I chose to use another long-acting opioid medication. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Most doctors will have you change the patch every 72 hours. The side effects are the ones that are common to most strong narcotics. They will include constipation so you should eat lots of fiber and yogurt while on the patch. Of course everyone is different so beware of driving as you may tend to nod off while at the wheel. Some will get a euphoric feeling (high) and some will just get sleepy -- Can't think of anymore at the present. All the best.
Avatar f tn But my pain is so severe that I kept trying until I found one that I could deal with the side effects. Fentanyl may be the one for you but you really need to give it a bit of a chance, a little time. Hang in there and you can chat with me any time. Take care, relax a bit and hang in, you'll be ok.
Avatar m tn I am a 28 yrs old guy, who had right knee total knee replacement at 2005. ever since then I have terrible pain following me. I have tried many different pain medication and even TENS unit, all of those didn't work. After trying all those option at yr 2009 my pain management doctor offered me to tried "FENTANYL PATCH." FENTANYL PATCH really help. Before the FENTANYL PATCH, I use to took 8 -11 tablet NORCO (325mg/10) per day for pain.
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
Avatar n tn the best way to keep it on for me was on my chest, place about 4 pieces of clear 3m tape long ways( from side to side) all the way down the patch.... cover the whole thing. and as for it starting to work well it took about 20 hours my very first day, but after 6 months of being on it it started to make me kinda sick and maken me loose weight rapidly.... good luck to u....
Avatar n tn Hello again....I did get to my pain management Dr. this week and talked about the Duragesic Patch being partially responsible for this severe depression I am in. Of course they don't have a crystal ball but discussed switching me into another medication and spoke of the conversion table they use to determine what dose to use. My question is this....
Avatar m tn This is being written by some one who was on the Fentanyl patch and the fentanyl lollipops/ sublingual tabs for advanced cancer. If you want to life in a Fent Fog. There are also new restrictions on driving whilst on this drug in the UK. I don't know about other countries. If your not sure it's working then its not working. You either have pain or you don't. Find out all you can about this drug and then decide if you want it in your life .
Avatar f tn ( I just noticed something and am wondering about it. Since I started the Fentanyl patch last week, whenever I take my BT meds (oxycodone), I end up with a headache and sort of long-lasting hot flash. I never felt like this before. Initially I chalked the hot flash up to the humidity here (though I've always been a cold person and never minded the heat. Now I find myself putting the air conditioning on, which I NEVER do.) The headache goes away pretty much if I take 800 mg. ibuprofen.
Avatar n tn I am diagnosed with 3 herniated cervical discs and fibromyalgia. I have a history 2 years ago of substance abuse (because of these pain issues). I have been thru a year of treatment and clean for 2 years. Finally referred to pain managment MD who is reluctant to prescribe opioids to treat chronic pain. Tried duragesic patch - 25 mcg TOO strong and 12 did nothing.
443878 tn?1205103196 I have been on Duragesic patch (Fentanyl) 100 mcg/hr for 6 years. I have gotten so sick of the side effects I began to taper off it 4 mnths ago.. I went from 100 to 75 stayed there 4 months then dropped to 50 about 1 month ago.. Last week I went to 25mcg/hr. I advise is no matter what your pain is.. GET OFF THIS PATCH.. If you think you cant eat now.. you wait until that patch really kicks in,.. you will be able to go for days and never want anything to eat or drink..

Avatar m tn I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once. I was just prescribed the duragesic patch 25mcg but have not filled the prescription, while researching on internet found the ingredients in this patch being some powerful meds that I have never experienced before and I am in fear of overdose, not being able to concentrate on my job or addiction.
Avatar n tn Is there some other brand of the fentanyl patch that is available at one of your pharmacies? Is your prescription specifically written for the J&J duragesic patch?
Avatar m tn What Im thinking about doing, is somehow ask my PCP to switch me to the same equivalent dose of a duragesic fentanyl patch. That way I would be away from the temptation of the having the pills just laying around for me to take at will. I could simply put on a patch and forget about it for three days. In your experience, what are my chances for success with getting away from the oxys by switching to the patch?
Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Myself, I have been wearing a 100 mcg. Duragesic fentanyl patch changed every 72 hours, for about 4 years now. I also have been taking all sorts of meds for breakthrough pain, oxycontin through Nucynta 50 mg. I had to stop the Nucynta because of my epilepsy. My pain management doctor just keeps pumping this poison into me. My dream is to be free of all narcotics, but until I can get some sort of relief (probably in the form of surgery) the medications will have to stay.
Avatar f tn what were the side effects you experienced? This Doctor didn't mention ANYTHING!, even though he knew my heart history, high blood pressure, and they didn't work before, but I can't remember the details, so he just insisted to use MORE and that was THAT! Did they make you sleepy?, I know they didn't help my pain before but that's all I can remember,(they stopped them within 2 months,nI DO remember that!
374225 tn?1269899262 I have used a couple forms of the Generic Patch and I have to tell you that there is a huge diference. I was getting the Patch by Sandoz which was working great and then the Pharmacy decided that Sandoz was too expensive and restocked the shelves with the Mylan Patch. After refilling my scrip with the Mylan I had noticed over the next day that I had increased pain and felt fluish. I brushed it off and chocked it up to me just not feeling good.
Avatar n tn I don't know if its the same kind of patch, but I was on the fentanyl patch for like 6 monts, been off 23 days. My dr gave me the 25 mg patch for pain due to a slipped disk in my spine, I went to the 50 mg patch for a few months. I had the surgery on Dec 20, only 2 months ago. I really liked the weight I was loosing and thought I'd stay on them longer, but the side effects were unbearable for me.
Avatar f tn I have been using the 75mcg Patch for about 8 months now and it has been a god send. There are some uncomfortable side effects with the Patch for the first month or so and they may want to make you stop using the Patch but don't if you can help it, they will go away. During the first 2 weeks in the mornings I experienced nausea along with dizziness but after I was up for about an hour they would disappear. This continued to lessen as the weeks rolled on.
Avatar n tn The conversion for the fent for that dose is 50 to 75Mcg. My dr said to try changing the patch every 2 instead of every 3. My insurance won’t pay for this non-standard dose. Idk what to do. I’m in constant pain, sweating crazy - i’m in a nightmare.
