Duragesic dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Duragesic dosage

duragesic

Avatar m tn Thanks for clarifying your concern. Sometimes we miss the true question and I apologize. The Fentanyl Patch is a very effective pain management medication - however it doesn't work the same in all ppl. I've heard your very complaint from others. I was only on it for a few days before I developed blisters from the tape. We tried everything for a week to treat the blistering - I'd hope it would be an answer - but my body said different.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar n tn I have been on the Duragesic Patch 74 mcg for about 3 1/2 years. During the last 6 months, I have become extremely depressed. I notice that it is worse after the second day any given patch is on. I have been treated for the depression with different antidepressants and so far have not found one that works. I am so desperate for help as the depression has taken over my life. Has anyone out there experienced this? Any input would be appreciated. I feel as though I am running out of time.
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN ON DURAGESIC FOR 6 YEARS, I WAS AT 100 4 MONTHS AGO THEN DRPPED IT TO 75 AND NOW AFTER 3-4 MONTHS I AM ON 50MCH PATCH... I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OFF THIS POISON.. ITS BEEN A 6 YEAR NIGHTMARE AND I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE IT END.. HAVE A HIP PROBLEM AND USED IT TO BUY MORE TIME UNTIL TOTAL REPLACEMENT.. THIS PATCH HAS BECOME MY WORSE DISABILITY.. ANYONE KNOW OF A DETOX OR WEAN OFF DRUG FOM HERE.. THE DROP ON THESE PATCHES ARE HORRIBLE..
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
Avatar n tn Doctor continues to ask me if I would start fentanyl therapy, which I have tried and only helps for 2 days and not 3 days which the dosage is set at.I have declined the fentanyl treatment and now DR. wants me to see surgeon for my cervical stenosis. My neck is only a part of my problems.I first started pain management for leg pain which still continues. What is your opinion about fentanyl, and also surgery on neck when their are multi-level problems causing same symptoms?
Avatar m tn He current doctor lacks compassion and is more concerned with lowering her dosage of pain medication as opposed to providing relief. Just today he was very condescending and told her she needs to suck it up and power through the pain. She is in constant pain to the point of contemplating suicide. I am scared I am going to lose my wife. We want to find a new doctor, but it can be a daunting task to find a new doctor willing to take on a pain management patient.
Avatar f tn When patients no longer require Duragesic, they must work with their physician to set a gradual taper schedule to avoid acute withdrawal. Withdrawal: After the patch is removed, it takes 17 hours or more for a 50 percent decrease in serum fentanyl concentrations. If you are planning to discontinue use of Duragesic, a gradual dosage decrease is recommended since it is not known what dose level the drug may be discontinued without producing the signs and symptoms of abrupt withdrawal.
Avatar m tn I have suffered paraplegia from a motorbike accident 20yrs ago, instantly I suffered chronic pain, I was firstly treated with morphine but over the years the dosage became to high, the Pain Specialist then put me on Methadone, I am currently using 110ml/gms per day to control the pain.
Avatar m tn I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once. I was just prescribed the duragesic patch 25mcg but have not filled the prescription, while researching on internet found the ingredients in this patch being some powerful meds that I have never experienced before and I am in fear of overdose, not being able to concentrate on my job or addiction.
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
Avatar f tn Are you taking your medication on an empty stomach? It's very important that you do this. I'm not sure how these medications compare to each other. I do know that we're all different and can respond to these medications differently. I take it you made the change because the Fentanyl was not working for you? Your Dr could very well be right. It may take a few days for this medication to start working. How many days has it been since you started it?
Avatar f tn I found this, not sure of the accuracy of the whole article, but copied it for you. I've never used the patches, but this seems like very good info. Perhaps someone else can comment on the accuracy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The recommended procedure is to clean the area with water and then apply the patch. However, for anyone who has used Fentanyl Generics or Duragesic, we know that's ridiculous.
Avatar m tn I have chronic pain from Tarlov Disease and Interstial Cystitis. My pain has been well managed for 2 1/2 years using tramadol (ultram) for maintenance and lortab for break through pain. I have developed chronic kidney disease and my doctors are pushing me to get some exercise. I have found that with every exercise form I have tried I quickly get beyond the pain control offered bu tramadol and lortab so i can't exercise.
Avatar f tn I've been on MS Contin (otherwise known as Codeine Contin) for more than 2 years now. I'm taking 100mg twice a day. I once went up to 300mg a day (150mg, twice a day), for at least 6 months, maybe even a year, but since I didn't see any improvement, only more side effects, I came back to 200mg/day. Now, the MS Contin is only helping get the pain to a lower, more manageable level, not relief it completely.
Avatar f tn m not a doctor), but I would think that if you are on duragesic (the most powerful painkiller on the planet), you don't have to take the solpadeine, and, if the amitriptyline is just to help you sleep, you probably don't need it, either, if you find the duragesic to be sedating. And in fact, you might not need the lyrica. Of course, that's assuming you are getting them all from one doctor. If you have more than one doctor, make sure they *all* know what you are taking.
Avatar m tn there had me on a medication called Temgesic. When I came back to usa I went on Duragesic Patch after a year or so.. I think this Temgesic is the detox meds you guys are talking about. I have a old box here and they were 2mg sublingal. Its buprenorfina (sp).. Brand as I say was Temgesic. Its a great medication for pain and I can never remember having the side effect of it that I have with this patch. I can't wait for the day I have none of this medication in my body.
Avatar n tn I've been taking the Duragesic 75mcg. hr pain patch for 3 years now, one patch every 48 hours instead of 72 because they only provide me with 48 hours of good pain relief, along with Percocet 10/325 for breakthrough pain for some serious spinal issues. herniated disc, disc fragment impressing upon and displacing the S-1 Nerve root, thoracic herniation at the T-8 and T-9 Level, along with neckpain. I also been diagnosed with multi-level DDD. My question is, my Dr.
Avatar n tn I guess what I am looking for here is some feedback from those who have transitioned from duragesic into oral meds. See, I am alone and doing all of this alone is a scary road. Thank you folks...any questions, please feel free.
Avatar m tn First he talked to his doctor and his doctor tapered him off all the pain pills first. With the Duragesic Patch he switched my hubby to a long acting pain medication (pill form) which he is now tapering down (all in all a 6 month taper). You really, really need to do this under the care of your doctor. All of hubby's doctors flat out told me that to do it any other way was very dangerous and I suspect it could be dangerous for you too.
Avatar n tn Hello again....I did get to my pain management Dr. this week and talked about the Duragesic Patch being partially responsible for this severe depression I am in. Of course they don't have a crystal ball but discussed switching me into another medication and spoke of the conversion table they use to determine what dose to use. My question is this....
Avatar f tn I have huge problems here. I'm going to try to stay on topic but things are pretty convoluted. Problem number 1 ... I'm on the Duragesic patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours. (In truth I change it every 72 because of fear on my part.) Last appointment told her I wanted to wean down and got a script for 50 mcg. Trouble is, in this location apparently they are not manufacturing the Duragesic and there is no date when they will be releasing more. No info on why.
