Avatar n tn the best way to keep it on for me was on my chest, place about 4 pieces of clear 3m tape long ways( from side to side) all the way down the patch.... cover the whole thing. and as for it starting to work well it took about 20 hours my very first day, but after 6 months of being on it it started to make me kinda sick and maken me loose weight rapidly.... good luck to u....
653169 tn?1303446369 It may also depend on what medication you are taking and what your insurance company will cover (if you have drug coverage). Some narcotic pain medications - for instance the Duragesic patch - can only be filled one month at a time and insurance definitely will not pay for more than that.
Avatar n tn I guess what I am looking for here is some feedback from those who have transitioned from duragesic into oral meds. See, I am alone and doing all of this alone is a scary road. Thank you folks...any questions, please feel free.
Avatar n tn Hello again....I did get to my pain management Dr. this week and talked about the Duragesic Patch being partially responsible for this severe depression I am in. Of course they don't have a crystal ball but discussed switching me into another medication and spoke of the conversion table they use to determine what dose to use. My question is this....
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN ON DURAGESIC FOR 6 YEARS, I WAS AT 100 4 MONTHS AGO THEN DRPPED IT TO 75 AND NOW AFTER 3-4 MONTHS I AM ON 50MCH PATCH... I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OFF THIS POISON.. ITS BEEN A 6 YEAR NIGHTMARE AND I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE IT END.. HAVE A HIP PROBLEM AND USED IT TO BUY MORE TIME UNTIL TOTAL REPLACEMENT.. THIS PATCH HAS BECOME MY WORSE DISABILITY.. ANYONE KNOW OF A DETOX OR WEAN OFF DRUG FOM HERE.. THE DROP ON THESE PATCHES ARE HORRIBLE..
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
Avatar m tn Have you ever tried a Duragesic pain patch? It is strong (in diff doses)and steady and lastly about 3 days if you've got good skin absorption. The med in Duragesic is about 100 times as strong as morphine mg for mg.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar m tn I have chronic pain from Tarlov Disease and Interstial Cystitis. My pain has been well managed for 2 1/2 years using tramadol (ultram) for maintenance and lortab for break through pain. I have developed chronic kidney disease and my doctors are pushing me to get some exercise. I have found that with every exercise form I have tried I quickly get beyond the pain control offered bu tramadol and lortab so i can't exercise.
Avatar n tn I have been on the Duragesic Patch 74 mcg for about 3 1/2 years. During the last 6 months, I have become extremely depressed. I notice that it is worse after the second day any given patch is on. I have been treated for the depression with different antidepressants and so far have not found one that works. I am so desperate for help as the depression has taken over my life. Has anyone out there experienced this? Any input would be appreciated. I feel as though I am running out of time.
Avatar f tn m not a doctor), but I would think that if you are on duragesic (the most powerful painkiller on the planet), you don't have to take the solpadeine, and, if the amitriptyline is just to help you sleep, you probably don't need it, either, if you find the duragesic to be sedating. And in fact, you might not need the lyrica. Of course, that's assuming you are getting them all from one doctor. If you have more than one doctor, make sure they *all* know what you are taking.
Avatar m tn there had me on a medication called Temgesic. When I came back to usa I went on Duragesic Patch after a year or so.. I think this Temgesic is the detox meds you guys are talking about. I have a old box here and they were 2mg sublingal. Its buprenorfina (sp).. Brand as I say was Temgesic. Its a great medication for pain and I can never remember having the side effect of it that I have with this patch. I can't wait for the day I have none of this medication in my body.

Avatar m tn What Im thinking about doing, is somehow ask my PCP to switch me to the same equivalent dose of a duragesic fentanyl patch. That way I would be away from the temptation of the having the pills just laying around for me to take at will. I could simply put on a patch and forget about it for three days. In your experience, what are my chances for success with getting away from the oxys by switching to the patch?
Avatar f tn I have huge problems here. I'm going to try to stay on topic but things are pretty convoluted. Problem number 1 ... I'm on the Duragesic patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours. (In truth I change it every 72 because of fear on my part.) Last appointment told her I wanted to wean down and got a script for 50 mcg. Trouble is, in this location apparently they are not manufacturing the Duragesic and there is no date when they will be releasing more. No info on why.
Avatar f tn I finally went to a pain management clinic while I still lived in FL and through trial and error we finally found something the worked. I was prescribed Duragesic patches for longterm and oxycodone for breakthru pain. This worked very well allowing me full functionality of my life. But recently I was laid off and moved back home to KY, I lost my insurance so I have been off all my meds. Also I am now in a different town and must go see a new doctor....
Avatar f tn 80% chance that I will be worse off with more surgery. Followed protocol at PM clinic, graduated to Duragesic patches 100 and 25 mcg for TWO years/they are no longer working ( took them every 72 hrs until 1 month ago when dr. switched me to every 48 hrs.) Director of pain clinic (NOT my PM dr.
Avatar n tn I am 11months and 5 days clean and sober and am enjoying life being sober!!!! I was given dilaudid in the hospital and I have been sent home on the Duragesic Patch. I had full disclosure with the doctor and he knows my entire history. Unfortunately, the pain is to bad to just be controlled with over the counter meds and I was told that Tylenol will just aggrivate the situation. Needless to say, I am scared to death.
Avatar n tn My husband had the same problem with his Insurance, so he called the manufacturer of Duragesic ( Name Brand ) and they go by your income and The Duragesic Co. paid for his patches for a whole year. Look on Internet for phone no. and they will mail you a form and you can fax or mail it in. Good luck !!!!
Avatar n tn I am using Alvogen 100 mcg patch x 4 (400 mcg total) every 48 hrs. I just switched from Duragesic brand name (I was getting these through Johnson & Johnson PAP now defunct as of 05/2020)to these this week. I noticed my kidneys were hurting right away. Has anyone had something similar happen?
Avatar m tn Sorry to read about your difficulties. In addition to the frustration of dealing with patches not adhering to your skin properly, I agree with Philnoir's suggestion using a 3 x 2 inch bandaid. I wore two patches during the hot and humid summer and had a challenge keeping them in place. Please do not open patches to take the contents orally or have contact with your hands/skin. This could be very dangerous. Bottom line: 25mcg/hr may not be adequate especially after 5 weeks of use.
