1255505 tn?1272819115 substance abuse is the only thing that gives me episodes. I wonder how much of the drugs and alcohol actually starts the process of these disorders. Everyone says I am a patient and kind person and i usually just keep my mouth shut about things. Throw some alcohol into it and i am out of control and telling people what i really think. I may be depressed afterward but i have no remorse for my actions afterward. Sometimes i wonder if it really is a bipolar issue like everyone says it is.
Avatar m tn The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., hypothyroidism). E. The symptoms are not better accounted for by bereavement, i.e., after the loss of a loved one, the symptoms persist for longer than 2 months or are characterized by marked functional impairment, morbid preoccupation with worthlessness, suicidal ideation, psychotic symptoms, or psychomotor retardation.

1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
202665 tn?1248806733 ve just been incorrect to start with and as the others said, bipolar disorder can have psychotic features and you could develop schizophrenia symptoms down the road alongside the bipolar disorder, but that would be schizoaffective disorder. Also, in the new DSM-V they have currently decided to totally deleting all the subtypes of schizophrenia and just going to diagnose solely schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.
Avatar f tn Axis I includes acute issues like biploar disorder, major depression, generalized anxiety, substance abuse, ADHD, schizophrenia. (These are just a few diagnosis listed in the DSM) The DSM gives a listing of symptoms for each of these disorders and the time the symptom must be present and distressing for the person to be labeled with the diagnosis. Avatar f tn Ambivalent, disorganized, and avoidant attachment are types of insecure attachment but are not considered an attachment disorder. RAD (reactive attachment disorder) is typically applied to children who fail to attach (for example, children adopted after being in an orphanage for a longer period of time). Developmental trauma disorder is, regretfully, also not a specific disorder, although it should be.
Avatar f tn s body, and just life felt unreality, and i still fell like this. I mentioned this to my doctor and he said it could be depersonalization disorder. This is affecting my whole life from school to friends and everything. I get very dizzy easily and very lightheaded, and since the beginning of where i felt like this, its hasn't gone away one. I was wondering at all if theres anything i could do to get rid of this. Thank you so much.
Avatar m tn You may want to consider seeking treatment for your substance abuse issues. I have mental health issues stemming from significant substance abuse. Your life will not get better until you make a change. I am not teetotal, but I have given up drugs, and when I drink I find it creates negative feelings now that I am in a state of recovery so I am moving towards abstinence. When you find something new to live for, aside from drugs and alcohol, they seem less important and life gets better.
Avatar m tn Schizoaffective is schizophrenia with a mood disorder, in my case bipolar but as you are describing depression. I would speak to a psychiatrist. Schizoaffective disorder is actually more common than schizophrenia and more easily treated. You could also have depression with psychotic features. I could explain the difference between the two but a psychiatrist could explain it. That is probably what is going on.
Avatar f tn Adderall is an amphetamine with high potential for abuse, controlled substance, may lead to drug dependence, may exacerbate behavior disturbances and thought disorders, and psychotic episodes. It is true with misuse or abuse may cause heart problems such as heart palpitations, arrhythmia, and even cardiac arrest. Most at risk are individuals that have a preexisting heart condition that the one wasnt aware. Hope this provides a perspective, it is not definitive but a very good question.

Avatar f tn Hey. First and foremost, thanks to those who make this forum possible. It’s such a valuable resource to so many and a jumping off point for informative dialogue with their PCPs and/or Specialists. A friend of mine is worried about her son and is conflicted on how to help him. Understandably, she doesn’t want to believe he still struggles with drug dependency. Of course, it doesn’t help that he would ferociously deny it, even if he we caught in the act.
