Common Questions and Answers about Drugs that kill brain cells

drug

Avatar f tn Well, I think it won't harm your body, since your brain is totally fu*kedup for believing this ****..
Avatar n tn Long term opiate use changes the way nerve cells in the brain work. These cells grow so used to having the opiate around that they actually need it to work normally. If opiates are taken away from dependent nerve cells, many cells become overactive. Eventually, these cells will work normally again, but in the meantime, they cause a wide range of symptoms in the brain and body. These are known as withdrawal symptoms.
333672 tn?1273792789 Of course, this is another thing that goes wrong in MS when the blood-brain barrier is breached, allowing errant T cells and B cells into the CNS. Microglia are neurotoxic and can kill oligodendrocytes in MS, but may also have a neuroprotective role (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19409897) 4. ASTROCYTES.
7033493 tn?1387272744 The hallucinations and other things you mentioned while you are huffing is because it is killing your brain cells. The more you do it the worse it will become. Taking lamictol is already changing how your brain's chemistry is acting, killing your brain cells is only making it worst.
Avatar n tn The problem is that the very autoimmune system disorder that causes the body to attack and kill off the islet cells in the first place often causes transplanted cells to fail. So the actual permanent cure rate is somewhat "ifffy" and the side affects of the drugs the person must be on after transplanting can be bad enough to negate the benefit of transplantation.
1884909 tn?1322538765 You are depriving your brain of oxygen and killing brain cells. If you keep huffing you will kill so many brain cells you will not even be able to take care of yourself, if you don't get yourself killed before then. When I was a deputy sheriff and happened to pulled you over while you are "high" from huffing. You would be a guest at our jail, for normally 6 months. Quit huffing and save what brain cells you have left!!!!
1580703 tn?1651904887 Your low oxygen level is not so low that it is going “to kill” some of your brain cells but is worrisome as an indicator of poor asthma control, especially if your asthma is not compounded by COPD. You might be a candidate for a trail of Xolair as it has been shown to promote asthma control, especially in those with a strong allergy component causing disease. You might want to seek a second opinion to be sure that your therapy, including environmental control, is optimum.
1094370 tn?1317134825 I'm assuming that with drugs, we can get the blood flowing again?
Avatar f tn every day for about a year and a half and yes it did kill my brain cells ugh... but i really wanna stop smoking for my baby bc i want it to be healthy along with cigarettes. I just wanna know would it hurt my baby as much? I don't do pills or nothin like that just weed.. and cigarettes should i stop while i got the chance?
7002065 tn?1443073614 well, i read that microglia cells have a half life of years to lifetime and that means that unless you don't kill off the microglia by yourself it won't regrow and return to it's resting mode by itself. These cells are like teeth. You wear them forever and if they're broken, they don't grow back newly. And once the Inferferon makes them super sensitive they are super sensitive forever and ever. But i guess there is a way to stop this vicious cycle.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to our little corner of the web, if you havent done so yet, please have a look at our health pages (found just to the right of your screen ) you'll find most of the answers to your questions there, well worth the time to have a read through. As for you question, i'll just have to admit to being a little confused on how to answer it, because technically brain cells also naturally die, we have about 100 billion neurons in our brains.
Avatar n tn Like all chemo treatments, the drugs kill good cells along with the bad and you need regular labwork to see what the drugs are doing to be safe. I am participating in a study so the drugs are free, but my insurance will cover them with a copay. I believe that one of the manufacturers, Schering Plough, supports a program of drug distribution for people who can prove they are under- or non-insured. Look at their website for more info.
Avatar f tn For invasive lobular carcinoma, chemotherapy is commonly used after surgery to kill any cells that may remain. Chemotherapy can also be used before surgery to shrink a tumor. For women with large breast tumors, chemotherapy before surgery may make it possible to choose lumpectomy over mastectomy. Radiation therapy Radiation therapy uses high-powered energy beams, such as X-rays, to kill cancer cells.
Avatar f tn If a person with cancer is undergoing chemotherapy, their immune system is quite vulnerable because of the drugs that they are given. The chemo not only kills the tumor cells, they kill the good cells including the cells that make up the immune system. This makes them open to many infections, some life threatening. A simple cold can easily become pneumonia in these people.
Avatar m tn t want my brain to lose IQ points as I need them to do well in studies - I heard that brain cells are only depleted and do not make new ones. Have I killed off my memory/brain cells by sleeping so late? And because they don't grow new cells, I'm stuck with a memory like this?
15680251 tn?1442231385 A smart girl who wants a family life would not choose a man that they know could go out and kill themselves with drugs. And often drugs are ingested as a coping mechanism. What girl wants to consider that their spouse would go out and drink and do cocaine, and lower their inhibitions sexually with anyone that they meet, as a coping mechanism after a tiff at home?
Avatar m tn Interferon Gamma can degrade cccDNA inside hepatocytes without killing the cells. HBV specific Cytotoxic T cells can kill an infected liver cell, and NK cells can also kill any infected cells. "What is the percentage of infected hepatocytes in a hbv patient? " During acute infection, it can be up to 100%. "Generating antibodies again hbsag are not just sufficient." Because there are far more Sub Viral Particles and Dane Particles, both have HBsAg coat, than HBsAb.
Avatar m tn The study, conducted by investigators at the Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome, Italy examined cytotoxic (CD8+) T-cells, which are cells that kill infected or abnormal cells in the body. They found an increased response to the antigens produced by active EBV in the blood of MS patients during relapses, as compared with samples taken during periods of remission.
1042487 tn?1275279899 In order to treat brain tumors, it is therefore imperative to find vectors that can penetrate the blood–brain barrier and permit medications to do their part. Richard Béliveau and his team have recently shown that melanotransferrin is one such vector. They are currently studying the possibility of employing melanotransferrin as a new delivery system to target drugs directly to the brain.
427265 tn?1444076436 what do these drugs do once you are UND....just float around on the lookout for that stray virus to pop up? Without any virii to attack, is this when the collateral damage occurs.? I seem to be developing some issues that may be auto immune related (?) psoriasis and joint pain that I never had before.
Avatar n tn What this tells me is that you have immune cells associated with your nerve biopsy. The simple explanation is that the immune cells are attacking something on your nerve cell or nerve sheath tumor or on tissue sheath covering your nerve cells. This could be an autoimmune reaction or a reaction to infectious agents in your nerve cells or a reaction to the tumor. Most nerve sheath tumors of this type are benign—they will not kill you but they can make your life unpleasant.
Avatar f tn Are you perhaps referring to Brain atrophy and shrinkage? The active lesions in the Brain from MS can deteriorate the nerve to a point where the nerve itself can become too damaged and die, eventually this space where the lesion was becomes empty and the brain will shrink to fill in this space. No one knows exactly which lesion causes which symptom and you can have many lesions but few to no symptoms.
Avatar m tn Studies in mice and human cancer cells in petri dishes show vitamin C blunted the effects of a wide range of anti-cancer drugs. Overall, 30 to 70 per cent fewer cancer cells exposed to vitamin C were killed depending on the dose and the drug tested." My understanding of the article is that the antioxidant properties in Vit C help cancer cells survive as chemo needs oxygen to kill cancer cells.
620048 tn?1358018235 The MS immune systems see Myelin on the nerves in the CNS and thinks that myelin looks like another organism, maybe the herpes virus. So the immune system watch dogs call out other cells that are designed to kill and destroy herpes, but the destroy myelin instead. This is a very simplified model.
Avatar m tn Cholesterol is so important to the brain that it is actually synthesized by specific cells in the brain during sleep. (Iowa State University) Statin drugs inhibit the cholesterol production everywhere in the body including the brain.
