Avatar f tn Narcotic analgesics block the transmission of pain signals by binding to the opioid receptors in the central nervous system. The actions in the central nervous system are also responsible for side effects such as sedation, respiratory depression and intoxication. Using narcotic analgesics for a long time increases the risk of dependence. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, and other central nervous system (CNS) depressants may have additive CNS- and/or respiratory-depressant effects with propoxyphene. Misuse of propoxyphene, either alone or in combination with other CNS depressants, has been a major cause of drug-related deaths, particularly in patients with a history of emotional disturbances, suicidal ideation, or alcohol and drug abuse.
Avatar f tn The combination of clonazepam and unisom can cause central nervous system and respiratory-depressant effects which may be increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Discuss your symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while sleepy as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn For example the combo may result result in vasodilation, hyporetension, CNS and respiratory depression, psychomotor impairment ( additive effects ). But the 2 drugs can be taken safely together even tho they are interacting together when taken as resonable dose.

Avatar n tn Other adjunctive medications like nasal decongestants, bronchodilators, anti histaminics etc may have an alternative drugs which are proved to be safe with no minimal side effects in growing infants. This depends on the drug properties if they will be transferred as therapeutic formulations un altered in to the breast milk. Here are some references which are clinically observed for safe use of certain classes of drugs in breast feeding mothers.

Avatar m tn [copy/paste] "For reasons still not identified, the long-term use of Actos weakens the respiratory tract’s immunity. This results to throat and respiratory infections like sore throat, sinusitis, coughs, and colds." Use with caution if you have heart issues. Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use.
Avatar n tn Hydrocodone bitartrate may produce dose-related respiratory depression by acting directly on brain stem respiratory centers. Special Senses: Cases of hearing impairment or permanent loss have been reported predominantly in patients with chronic overdose. Dermatological: Skin rash, pruritus. The following adverse drug events may be borne in mind as potential effects of acetaminophen: allergic reactions, rash, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.

Avatar f tn Breathing small amounts of chlorine for short periods of time adversely affects the human respiratory system. Effects differ from coughing and chest pain, to water retention in the lungs. Chlorine irritates the skin, the eyes, and the respiratory system. These effects are not likely to occur at levels of chlorine that are normally found in the environment. Human health effects associated with breathing or otherwise consuming small amounts of chlorine over long periods of time are not known.
Avatar n tn I would recommend trying some breathing techniques, yoga, or meditation. The effects that cause asthma increase the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response) above normal causing asthma attacks, panic attacks, etc. The practice of one of the three mentioned above helps bring back balance to the autonomic system by relaxing the mind and body.
