My oder seems non offensive to all I ask (even the honest ones) but I do have xerostomia and have been referred to oral path for saliva replacement therapy. Any advice what are the true underlying causes of chronic xerostomia? Also my tongue is coated white and I postnasal drip.
Hello, I am suffering from an unexplained xerostomia for more than two years now and it seems HCV might be one of the causes.
My anti-HCV tests are negative so far however I heard that often HCv is detected only with PCR RNA tests. Anyone can comment on this? The other common causes for xerostomia are HIV and HTLV (tested already for both).

thanks for answering, have been removing all the drugs that cause dry mouth symptoms. have seen two ENT drs. they dont have any ideas, especially with the red, painful palete...am awaiting a sinus catscan result to see if there is a clue there......
Seeing an oral pathologist to evaluate and manage your subjective or objective xerostomia is advised.Seeing a periodontist to determine the specific cause of gum recession is advised.
Yeah, I'd thought Sjogren's too along with my eye Dr. but my rheumatologist ordered a blood test and said it wasn't Sjogren's; also not all the symptoms "fit" when i'd read up on it. Oral Balance was one of the first treatments I'd tried but it didn't relieve my symptoms very long. Also I did persist with U of MD by phone until I reached another Dr.
I always have a white tongue, I drink a LOT of water and I use a tongue scraper everyday briefly but it never seems to do anything. It's driving me insane and I can't focus on anything without drinking water every minute. My mouth feels horrible and always has a stingy issue. My tongue feels very rough. I can't for example a mask on my face because it makes my mouth feel uncomfortable.

I got tested immediately after, then 3 months after then 5 months and 15 days after all coming back negative. Is there still a possibility that I have HIV or am i just paranoid. I genetically have anxiety and I think that is causing symptoms such as xerostomia because that just occured but i think it's because i have a virus which is causing me to cough. I'm a 43 year old female and had my thyroid removed in 2007 due to a suspect nodule. Since then, I've had rapid deterioation of my teeth. Since then I've had two root canals, two crows were unseated and one broke off. I have a bridge, my first molar extracted. My dentist says that he is seeing rapid decay. This year, I've also experienced sporadic pain that radiated from the LL to LR each month like clockwork. I eventually got a root canal and crown on one side.
My enamel (I think) seems to be getting worse and worse. When running my tongue over my teeth, it feels like my teeth are quite sharp on the top (edges) of the teeth. My roots are good, don't have cavities either from this. Can this be some kind of disease? Lacking something in my diet? Is there something that can be done to protect my teeth from further deterioration? I drink mostly water for the last few years, so I am guessing it it not from what I drink.
For the most part, I can feel when it is there or building up and go to a mirror and wipe or pick it off. I also tend to have a saliva problem in which smetimes I have an odd, chalky taste in my mouth and often tend to have a buildup of siliva when talking a lot.
I driak a lot of water and fluids. I used to have cuts in the corners of my mouth along with the film and my dentist said I might have chelitis.
I have had a "salty" taste in my mouth that nothing seems to get rid of. Recently, I had a really bad (putrid) taste that my dentist attributed to a bridge that was loose. My dentist removed and recemented the bridge, which seemed to eliminate the really bad taste, but not the "salty" taste. It seems to be coming from the same tooth that had the bad taste. My dentist declares that it cannot be from this tooth, that the cement has sealed the tooth off.
ve had dry mouth problems since. I have sticky lips and sometimes sore lips and tongue. I do sometimes have slight dry eyes but not always. I came off my anti depressants which didn't work but maybe I didn't give it long enough. I am now on a new one on a tiny dose with no change. I was on propecia nut stopped months ago. My GP gas run blood tests and taken a saliva test with no results.
I took sports as an outlet for fun and hung out with my friends and managed to never put myself in danger by doing drugs or alcohol. It takes real inner strength, self-control and a real deep sense of contentment with who you ARE -- you don't have to prove anything to anyone. I would challenge you to think this over and make the smart decision in order to protect yourself.
