782550 tn?1333484257 Don't know anything about Malarone, but try asking your pharmacist. Keep in mind that St. John's Wort is primarily for depression; there are better things out there specifically for anxiety, unless you've already found this herb to do the trick for you. If it does, it would indicate your primary problem is depression, not anxiety, as depression can cause anxiety. You might also look St.
Avatar m tn Can I take St john's wort with DIM (Diindolylmethane) ? Are there any interactions?
Avatar f tn I was thinking about trying st. John's wort for depression. I take tramadol for a knee alignment issue. I currently take 100mg-200mg about 3 times a week. I know there is an interaction with st. John's wort due to the seratonin increase they both cause. Am I able to take the st. John's wort on days I don't need the tramadol? If not, how long should I wait to take the St. John's wort after taking the tramadol and when would I be able to take the st.
1102283 tn?1257817472 Well St. John's Wort can have potentially dangerous interactions with known medications so its best not to try it. Its confusing what your psychiatrist stated. A support group is a practical idea for every day issues but if what you have stems from the untreated depressive aspect of bipolar then that needs to be addressed clinically in my opinion.
Avatar n tn St. Johns wort is usually very mild, but maybe you just had an allergec reaction to the herb. I would find it almost impossible for anyone that was only taking St John's wort to develope Serotonin Syndrome. Now if one was combining St Johns Wors with an SSRI medication then, yes there is a risk of Serotonin syndrome. This is why the Wort must never be taken in tandem with any prescribed antidepressant drug.
Avatar n tn Is it safe for me to take St. John's Wort if I've been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I take a medication for the hyperthyroidism. I've been really tired lately, so I'm also taking a sublingual B vitamin.
Avatar f tn Actually, the above statement is partly correct and partly incorrect. First, St. John's Wort isn't an OTC med -- that's something like aspirin or Robutussin. St. John's Wort isn't a med, it's a plant, one that comes in many forms such as tinctures, capsules, teas, standardized extracts, etc..
372880 tn?1332879487 One thing regarding the gabapentin and the st. johns wort - the drug interactions checker at drugs ******* lists this interaction as "moderate" - the three options being minor, moderate and severe. Moderate is defined as "Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances". I would be very careful combining these two, or better yet leaving out the St. John's Wort.
Avatar f tn I've heard before that St. John's Wort is a good natural remedy for depression. Has anyone tried it? Did you have good or bad effects? Is there a danger with taking St. John's Wort? Anything I should know before I try it?
954811 tn?1246452958 I've read many studies on St. John's Wort - and the consensus is that it is basically as effective as Prozac for mild to moderate depression. It won't do much for severe depression. I spoke to my psychiatrist about this, and she agreed. However, she advised against taking it because it would "limit what she could prescribe" (it can have interactions with other psychotropic medications). St.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Who has tried St. John's Wort? Did it work for you? Were there side effects? How long did it take to take effect?
366811 tn?1217422672 As many of us know, medications are a big part of managing our anxiety and panic. And many have questions as well about natural remedies, supplements and related substances. Avatar f tn Are you on medication? There's no problem with St. John's Wort and evening primrose, but there might be a problem with medication and St. John's Wort. Evening primrose should be taken with meals that contain some fat, as it is mostly fats. And yes, you can also take Omega 3 oils. Evening primrose primarily contains omega 6 oils. As for dosing herbs, which would include St.
6861995 tn?1385501475 Buspirone is a very strange medication -- it hasn't done particularly well in studies and it's been around a long time, but some people find it effective. St. John's Wort is used for depression and nobody really knows why it works when it works -- theories have differed as to which neurotransmitters are affected. Generally it is not advised to take St. John's Wort with serotonin targeting drugs, as it might affect serotonin, and buspirone does have an effect on serotonin.
Avatar n tn I took the St. John's wort one day two doses and forgot the next, and that next morning woke up dizzy. Haven't taken it since, and flew back and forth to Texas, and haven't felt totally straight since then. Although, I have taken Xanax in between and drank some. I just haven't ever been dizzy before. My Mother has and says its hireditary, and her brother also, I'm 33, and she said that's about when she started noticing veritigo type symptoms on and off.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken St John's wort to treat depression? Does it work? I'm considering taking it, but I'm not sure of how effective it is... I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks.
Avatar f tn St. John's wort is an herb, not a homeopathic remedy, in the way you're talking about it. It does exist in homeopathy, and is called hypericum when it is, which is the Latin name for the plant. For some people St. John's Wort has proven very effective for depression. For others, not so much. You have to try it to tell. Usually, herbal medicine is used in combinations, not just one herb, but you can try it.
