Drug interaction plavix and omeprazole

Common Questions and Answers about Drug interaction plavix and omeprazole

plavix

Avatar n tn I've followed this research, and from what I've learned the drug interaction of Plavix and PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) is not not that strong. I doubted the report from the start as I took Plavix and PPI's and my blood was as thin as tea, I bruised very, very easily, and the blood tests to determine my clotting factor wasn't changed by taking the two drugs.
1210142 tn?1266077031 Was on Plavix and Omeprazole for quite a while. Eventually went off Plavix and kept Omeprazole. LAD blocked again in 2013, and a DES was placed inside the other stents. These occluded again this past November and I had a double bypass (LAD plus RCA). The RCA veinous graft collapsed this month and a DES was placed last week. Sooo, I am back on Plavix and Omeprazole. Thinking of maybe changing to Pantoprazole or just stopping PPI altogether.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar m tn FDA is alerting the public to new safety information concerning an interaction between clopidogrel (Plavix), an anti-clotting medication, and omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC), a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid. New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced.
Avatar n tn t take plavix in the morning and in the evening take lopressor 50mg and lipitor 80mg. I had been at least 4 hours since i took these two medication lopressor and lipitor. Is it ok to take zantac 150mg for heart burn .
Avatar n tn Always consult with your local Pharmacist on drug interactions and side effects, they are your experts. Be sure to mention other medications too.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar n tn I have heard that there is some problem mixing vitamin K with a blood thinner. I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don’t think there’s any drug interaction between progesterone and anacin. The pain which you suffered is probably due to some acute gastritis/peptic ulcer pain which typically occurs in the night and is usually associated with nausea. If you take some antacids/omeprazole/pantoprazole, you’ll be fine. Please consult gastroenterologist/physician and you may need an endoscopy in case the symptoms recur on regular basis, otherwise a short course of anti-ulcer drugs should be fine.
Avatar n tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn t good because it has no protection from the acid, becomes damaged and inflamed, and very painful. Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole ensure your stomach produces less acid, giving help for repair of ulcers, or helping with acid reflux in the oesophagus.
Avatar f tn what do you do when you have had stent for three months and are on plavix and have severe pain from back problem. the hear doctor says stay on plavix to protect the stent. the back doctor will not operate on plavix. the result chronic pain and pain pills every four hours and can only recline in chair. what do you do? does anyone know a back doctor in alabama or georgia with experience in these cases.
Avatar f tn The medications you listed are appropriate for those with coronary artery disease, and should have little interaction with each other. Some of these medications should be uptitrated by his cardiologist to allow for the maximum dose as he tolerates them (namely, Ramipril and Metoprolol). His Plavix should continue for either several months up to 1-2 years depending on the type of stent he received at the time of his percutaneous coronary intervention (bare metal stent vs. drug-eluting).
Avatar f tn I may be mistaken but I believe it is the interaction of plavix and aspirin that is the thetherapuetic underpinnings for the dual medication to help prevent clots with DES. Each medication has different mechanisms for treatment of blood clots and alone it has been shown are not as effective as together. Following your logic to separate to avoid the interaction of the drugs is somehow beneficial! would be like taking either aspirin or plavix as the sole treatment?
Avatar n tn I stopped Plavix - 3 days later ALT 124, AST 21. Before Plavix ALT 14, AST 18, platelets 281K. PCP dx is drug-induced hepatitis due to Plavix. While I agree Plavix caused me problems, my RUQ episode was textbook biliary colic. 4 years ago after pregnancy I had a week of clay-colored stools and RUQ pain after eating potato chips. No labs were done and US found no stones. I avoided fatty foods for years and had no other problems until now.
Avatar f tn I had a "minor" stoke in May 2010. It is now October 2010 my dizziness, balance, double vision and strength have all improve greatly but I still have a dry cough that flares up almost daily. My doctor said it could be allergies and to give it time. I have done that but there has been no real improvement. The only medications I'm taking are a statin for cholesterol and Plavix. Any input on this cough would very much appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
