Common Questions and Answers about Drug addiction literature

drug

Avatar n tn It took me over 45 minutes to find out exactly what this drug is. It's generic name is Dicyclomine and it looks like an antispasmatic used mostly to treat IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). If you're still out there, give us an idea of what types of withdrawal symptoms he's having. It does say in the literature that addiction to Dicyclomine is rare, but possible. Please, give us some more info and we can try to help.
Avatar m tn Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It's important for you to determine which category you would fit into, if indeed this is even a concern for you.
Avatar n tn It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. Valium does degrade situational awareness as well as intellectual acuity, and may interfere with driving safety, although that is more of a problem for the first time user. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.
Avatar n tn Now, all drug inserts are clearly marked with warnings about Tramadol. Also, the literature still states that Tramadol addiction may occur after 3 months of use with doses over 400mg per day. Info on this forum doesn't support that claim,it seems. It seems that dependence may occur WITHIN those guidelines! I think it should be used very cautiously... Do you need some help getting off of this? We can help!
Avatar m tn I'm aware that those are also known causes, but we were eating dinner and though he was "slow to process", there were no other associated symptoms. when confronted he blamed "coming off lexapro", but i am rather skeptical. Indeed, the use of "recreational" with drugs, is in fact a cop out, but not mine; it's rampant in the literature. this man is a know drug abuser and addict.
Avatar m tn so ive been going to N/A meetings once a week for an oxy addiction, because i dont have time with work. and im 22 yrs old.. i dont know if its just me but i feel guilty going to these meetings. "alcohol is a drug" is one of the "sayings" they always use.. and i feel like the biggest hypocrite because well im there for oxy's and i go out sometimes on weekends with friends and have a few cold beers..
Avatar f tn Last Tuesday my parents scheduled an appointment with an addiction counselor. As we were sitting in the waiting room reading his handouts I was horrified when I read that he believes in a "12 step philosphy". No offense to anyone, but I don't buy into the notion that we as humans are unable to free ourselves of addiction by willpower alone and must ulimately turn to a "higher power" to ensure success.
Avatar f tn THey all seem to have missed the update on this drug since it was first released and are utterly unaware how bad this drug really is. Most doctors will say tramadol is not addictive and produces no bad WD symptoms..I really hope the AMA or whoever is in charge of doctors keeping their knowledge up to date gets their act together and re-educate doctors on this medicine! good luck to you and let us know how you are doing. Keep reading, posting and researching!
Avatar m tn There have been plenty of studies on addiction and cross addiction in regards to alcohol, marijuana, and all other drugs for that matter. Your just not looking in the right spot. Buy "Uppers, Downers, and All Arounders 8th Edition" and you will get your answers. This debate is old and won many times over. Its why all the literature supports an addict not using ANY mind altering substance and practicing COMPLETE abstinence.

Avatar n tn On this forum people do ask drug related questions and members answer if they have had experience with the particular drug. You might try ask a Pharmasist forum. I noticed it has just been created. Good Luck..
Avatar n tn s doing there is a risk of over medicating and addiction. Do any of the doctors know about each other? Do you have your own family doctor? I would bring it up with your's because I wouldn't know how to go about dealing with this or making a judgement regarding addiction. I know this can't happen in BC because all of the doctor's activities are watched by one main system as we are all on the same health insurance. If he gets angry about it, some red flags are flying.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar n tn Most people in the very earliest days of addiction recovery experience cravings. It is a common experience in addiction recovery. Alcohol or other drug (AOD) cravings do not mean that you are not working a good program of recovery. With continued abstinence over time, cravings will be reduced in intensity and duration. Eventually, cravings may disappear altogether.
