452063 tn?1324074916 These struggles are generally associated with the feelings of depression, anger, resentment, self pity and the realization of where their drug addiction or alcoholism has taken them. Upon experiencing this phenomenon for the first time, the addict or alcoholic is understandably excited. They begin to believe they now “hold the key” to their recovery. This is where the seed for relapse is planted. They begin to believe more in themselves than in the process they have been following.

Avatar f tn ve learned that we are all human and will let each other down. I have also learned how far addiction can drive a person. Understanding addiction has helped me to forgive my birth mother.. Holding on to all the hurt, anger, and resentment was wearing me down and making me physically sick ❕❗ I'd have to say YES... IT DIDN'T KILL ME AND IT MADE ME STRONGER...
Avatar m tn Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It's important for you to determine which category you would fit into, if indeed this is even a concern for you.
Avatar n tn It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. Valium does degrade situational awareness as well as intellectual acuity, and may interfere with driving safety, although that is more of a problem for the first time user. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.
Avatar m tn I'm sorry you deal with chronic pain. Yes, unfortunately, you did screw up. Hopefully this is a good lesson about not self medicating or taking things you aren't prescribed to you. If you need the medications, you simply cannot do anything to jeopardize that. Plus, that adds to the challenges that chronic pain pts face every day. I'm sure you're already aware of that.
Avatar f tn First-have you talked to your doctor and explored other pain management plans? Are you taking prescribed medication or buying it or both? There are things that you can be prescribed to help with opiate detox that make it more bearable and are non-addictive (clonidine a BP medication commonly used in opiate detox) and natural remedies. I used both. I hear your desire to reclaim your life and it is possible....What kind of surgery are you having and when?
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome. I checked and didn't see another post from you. Someone will be along shortly and give you more info than I can give you. However, I just want to tell you that we can't give out taper plans. That is something you should work out with your doctor. I am not familiar with the drug you are taking, but that sounds to me like a huge amount and if you are taking that many, I doubt that you would be able to taper.
Avatar n tn well the bright side is that diazepam is generally the standard drug used for a benzo taper....but the bad part is this is something that needs lots of time to be done correctly and it also needs to be supervised. is 10mg your daily dose? there are plenty of taper plans that you can look at online...but they require time and they really are just a point of reference. ultimately it should be something you do with your doctors help and supervision.
Avatar m tn I too was a recreational user, which swiftly developed into full-blown addiction. Coke was my main drug of choice. Unfortunately with coke the chances of getting it 100% pure are almost impossible. Chances are you are allergic to something it was cut with. Please think about what you're doing each time you use. This is a long, dark road you're on. No good can possibly come of it. Quit while you're ahead my friend. Here if you ever need to talk...
Avatar n tn you tried it once and are afraid of addiction? i think you may have a fear of addiction itself and you should be fine.
Avatar f tn If someone could give me some clues to addiction to this drug I would really appreciate it.
Avatar f tn But I am beyond hurt and angry that he cheated on me with his ex girlfriend and I am having a hard time understanding how he could do this to me. I am trying not to be selfish and I am trying to understand what a drug addiction really means. I start therapy later this month and I have been reading articles and articles online about oxycontin addcition. I understand that the addiction makes people do anything to fulfil that need to get high regardless of the consequences.
Avatar f tn t want to fess up about either for some reason. Everyone close to me knows of my drug addiction, especially my boyfriend. I have been honest with him the entire time and he knows all about. His brother is addicted to oxy's with no plans to quit so he gets the problem, it seems like the whole county has a prescription drug problem at this point!

231048 tn?1214354453 Hey all, day 3, still clean!!!! We feel sooo much better today. This morning at around 6am jason woke me up becus he was having terible pains in his back, so bad that he could barely walk. I got the heating pad for him and rubbed some icy hot gel on his back and gave him some Asprin and when he woke up he was all better. I'm still really nausous but no more aches. Alot of people have been asking me if we had any plans for after care and the truth is we really dont have a plan.
Avatar m tn Well thanks for your response.I was clean for 5 months from opiates.I would take miniscule amounts of xanax til end of Feb when needed for my anxiety. So clean from all substances for at least a month. Then out of stupidity and boredom I started the opiates. But as I said, because I have a deep relationship with the hydrocodone,it got me to the next level.I started feeling closer and closer to myself. So therefore doing more and more.
Avatar n tn Withdrawal needs to be supervised by a doctor. What are your plans after you have gone through detox (withdraws)? Recovery is about much more than stopping drinking or it was for me anyway.
1551705 tn?1320637014 but they wasnt stupid they could see and in the end the amount I was taking was noticed by the Drug Addiction Society as all Addictive Drug records go to them and they can tell if a person is addicted to a said drug and they had seen my intake rise and rise at a alarming rate. It was then taken out of my hands and I was denied any drug for 3 days ! my lesson for abusing my Codeine when I had enough to last me.
