472139 tn?1211332563 I often hear about addiction being a disease much like diabetes, Example i need to take my methadone just like a diabetic? But just like diabetics you can eat right exercise and become free of it...and medication, so why not addiction then?? If we do the right things cant that be the same?
Avatar f tn Coming off of the morphine will be difficult after 3 years of use. I would seek help from a doctor that specializes in drug addiction or find a pain clinic at a hospital that is experienced weaning patients off of addictive drugs. You may want to post your questions regarding opiate addiction in the MedHelp Addition-Alcohol-Drug-Rehab Community http://www.medhelp.
725350 tn?1318680468 I've seen a lot of debate on this topic recently and was just wondering how many people had opinions on this. There are a lot of percieved positives and negatives to accepting addiction as a disease, and vice-versa. No one likes to think they are bodily or mentally different from others, and considering addiction a 'chronic disease' carries certain stigma. I remember thinking when I first got clean, "even if I never use drugs again I'll still be an addict?
Avatar m tn Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It's important for you to determine which category you would fit into, if indeed this is even a concern for you.
Avatar n tn It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. Valium does degrade situational awareness as well as intellectual acuity, and may interfere with driving safety, although that is more of a problem for the first time user. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with an addictive personality as well as a dual diagnosis (depression and drug addiction). I used meth and Loracets daily for 6 years. These 2 demons turned out to be my drug's of choice after trying most everything out there. Financially it was killing me and destroying my family life. I'm not sure why, because my husband is the best, that I had an affair with someone 15 yrs younger than I am. This went on for 6 months.
Avatar m tn If drug addiction is a disease, say like diabetes or cancer, why does the afflicted person feel so much shame and rejection?? I have been on again, off again addict. My family has been there when I have needed them. Now that I am "on again", why are my loved ones excluding me from holiday get togethers?? Or family parties?? It hurts so badly. I feel as though they are sick and tired of my relapses, and truly dissapointed in me when I have relapsed in the past.
Avatar f tn remember who you are and dont loose sight on that. if you do then the drug is doing you rather than you doing the drug. its here on earth to enjoy not to go down. peace i know its hard starting using when i was 12 its been a roller coaster but i realize if i am gana use do it for satisfation not to hurt me or others. btw best drug to come off of other drugs and relax go to sleep is xanax. without that i couldnt handle my escapades. it is what it is...
1274514 tn?1277057923 Oh, yes, and a whole lot more damage on top of that, too. Forget about vascular disease...if you abuse this drug, you are going to die, plain and simple, that is the absolute for sure outcome of meth abuse. Or you could wind up psychotic and in an insane asylum. I've seen the insides of those places in psych films when I used to study that, and they are SO stark, SO sad, and not too friendly neighbors.
Avatar m tn It is important that addicts get professional help because addiction is a disease as much as dealing with someone who battles depression. You do need to keep her honest though. She must be trying to get better if she values your relationship. However bare in mind that her brain is hijacked and isn't thinking how she normally would think. Good luck and keep us posted buddy.
1643958 tn?1301004655 m basically asking if this is a definite drug addiction, even though she is prescribed the pills each month? And also how to get through to her that she needs help?
Avatar f tn So I have an oxycodone problem/addiction. The past month or so I've been teeter toddle ring between using an not.. I really want to stop completely and have recently been attending NA. I have substantially reduced for this binge to about 15-25 a day/ at a time. For the purposes of this question lets assume I've been dosing this way for 2 weeks consecutively. How long will it take me to pass the drug test?
5864500 tn?1380889597 The drinking is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the disease of alcoholism. I go to AA and it works for me. This best way to get hooked up to AA is to call your local AA 24 hour hotline. Stay with us on here too. We'll support you along the way. Believe me, if an alcoholic like me can do it, you sure can. Give it a try.

Avatar f tn I had read this on the Addiction Forum by ActingBrandNew and wanted to share it here for those that are being effected by a false positive drug test. No you did nothing wrong the test are faulty in that they sell over the counter drugs that interact with the testing..
