phenobarbital has been around for a long long time is often considered the safest barbiturate as far as abuse...althought people still DO abuse it. if i remember right (i might be slightly off on this) peak concentration is 12 hours after the initial dose. this means it does no good to try to get high with it...the ride up and back down is so slow that you don't get a very good high at all.
She most likely will have to have a cesarean to prevent the baby from contracting the STD. The one caring for her during her pregnancy should be able to evaluate the safety of these drugs in conjunction with her pregnancy and if they are unsafe they should offer alternatives.
Unfortunately there are not a lot of studies done on many drugs in relation to pregnancy as pregnant women are not allowed to be "studied" in the event it could harm their baby.
Also, if you test positive for any kind of drug during pregnancy guess what?? Your dr can and will report you to child services and your dr will continue to test you throughout your pregnancy. And when your baby is born even if you are negative babys meconium and the placenta will most likely still test positive. So you could possibly have your baby taken from you at the hospital. I don't think that's something anyone wants.
I was friends with a woman who had a serious soboxone addiction and abused it along with subutex during her pregnancy and if you take it daily during your pregnancy your baby will be born with withdrawal and come out shaking for the first few weeks as hers did. PLEASE do not take during pregnancy if at all... :( It was so hard and sad to witness that on top of it she smoked ciggs and they do drug test when the babys born and will take the baby if any drug abuse is found.
