My 13 years old pomeranian has been diagnosed with kidney failure about 2 months ago. He also has diabetes for the last 3 years. I thought I got the hang of his kidney to make him feel comfortable, yet he developed very bad skin infection on his entire body, worst in groin area and back legs to the point where he would not want to walk much. The vet tried 4 different antibiotics ( amoxicillin, then rilexine then Zeniquin and last doxycycline) and none have cleared the infection.
My dog Cruiser is not responding to treatment. He was fine 3 weeks ago and within a few days yelped alot, was bloated and lost his appetite. When brought to the vet, he had an x-ray (with the above results), and the vet didn't see too much of note. We then did a CBC and he tested positive for Anaplasmosis. He was immediately started on 50 mg of Doxycycline and given Tramadol for pain (I've added around 150mg of aspirin occasionally for inflammation).
Because my dog interacts with other dogs a lot, when he developed a "cough" I immediately took him to the vet. He had no fever, is eating and drinking normally and his activity level is normal - he doesn't at all act like a sick dog. I have kept him away from other dogs to avoid getting them sick. The vet diagnosed him with kennel cough and put him on Doxycycline 100 mg - he takes 1 1/2 pills twice a day. He started them on Tuesday.He has also had a Bordetella vaccine.

Dogs generally loved cooked salmon, and cooked bacon, and liver, (raw or very lightly cooked). You shouldn't have much problem getting your dog to eat these items(!) Also, Walmart carries frozen buffalo patties, (6 per box) in the people section - dogs love that raw, or warmed 30 sec in microwave, (anti-biotic and hormone free).
Doxycycline can cause really painful GI problems is used more than a week. Speaking from experience!!!

Has he finished the antibiotic course already?
If so, then it would be a good idea if you can feed him some natural "Live" yogurt (unflavoured) daily for a few days until you see any improvement, as this will act as a pro-biotic, replacing natural gut bacteria which will have been wiped out by the long antibiotic course. This will help his digestive balance.
I also had some doxycycline left over in my house from when my dogs got sick a few months ago. I read that doxycycline can be used to treat the treatable STDs. I began taking 100 mg, twice a day, 2 days ago (got that from online as well). Could the discomfort in my genitalia be a side effect from the doxycycline? Should I continue to take the doxycycline? Our 7 year old yellow lab Rocco was recently diagnosed in the last stage of renal failure just a couple weeks ago. I brought him to our regular vet with symptoms of loss of appetite, bad breath & nausea. The vet did a brief exam & said his exam was unremarkable & didn’t feel like a blood work was necessary. Said he looks like a healthy dog. A week later I called the vet back & said I wanted blood work done. On a Friday they performed blood work & urinalysis.
From what I know about antibiotics, it is not ok to drink beer or any alcohol with Doxycycline. It diminishes the effectiveness of the drug and makes it harder to treat the infection. At darkness her both eyes look normaly dilated but in daylight her pupils have diferent sizes (the left is larger)
I took her to the vet on saturday, the vet found her healthy, without fever or with a signal of being sick, just with her left eyelid a bit swollen and suggested me to go to an ophthalmologist. My bf started his course of doxycycline the week i did my retest that came back negative, he finished his course of doxycycline 4 days ago. We haven't had intercourse but we did have oral sex today, would we be re-infected?
Just get a care credit and take your dog in for an MRI of the neck area and then to a board certified neurologist. I was diagnosed with gonorrhea and received a shot (don't know which kind) on December 13th, started Doxycycline the next day, once a day for 7 days ending on the 20th. So that's 7 days after after receiving the shot. I had unprotected sex 4 days after finishing the pills, which is also 7 days after the shot. Is my partner at risk for gonorrhea? I went to a urologist and he prescribed me doxycycline and did a swab test and checked my prostate with an ultrasound machine (atleast that's what i think it was) and everything was normal. After a week i came back and the swab test was negative, but the doctor prescribed me doxycycline again for a week just in case. The symptoms disappeared, however after 1 or 2 weeks they started coming back and now, a month after, the discharge is white again and the urination is uncomfortable.
