With regard to the psychiatric side effects and possible effects on sleep and dreams, the usual guidance is that people with anxiety, depression, other types of mental illness, and those that have frequent nightmare should consider alternatives to mefloquine.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Doxycycline for anti-malaria reasons. I was wondering if it's unsafe to take for 5 consecutive months?
Avatar n tn See your doctor, But on the side, doxicyclene has a lot of negative side effects and if the medication is old it can become toxic. Neuropathy is one of the side effects that doxi has. I can not take doxi due to the effects it has on me. But backing up to your situation... sex in Africa!
Avatar n tn I took single dose of doxycycline everyday for 6 weeks during the summer. Would that have cleared a chamydia infection.
Avatar m tn I am visiting Laos/Thailand in Jan 2011 and I have been advised to take anti-malaria tablets while there called Doxycycline. Does anyone know if there is any interaction between these two drugs? Can it make one or the other not work as effectively? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I would definitely go see a doctor. You might be having residual effects from the malaria that need to be addressed.
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar n tn since artesunate is also the most potent malaria drug it is best to use this one, please let us know if you can do also hbsag quantity in iu/ml test while on artesunate some years ago a doctor cronic carrier of hbv wrote me an email and he also methioned that his mother cleared hbv after malaria treatment after a lifetime of cronic carrier, so malaria drug may have an hbv effec too and that would be good to try
Avatar f tn So I caught fever a week ago and. It was 103 F and though the malaria text came out negative, my doctor gave me malaria medication. I had to take it for three days, and though the fever disappeared, I've developed another painful condition. I.E., my body's really cold - it's been 3-4 days since I've stopped taking the medicines, but I still feel sooo weak, can't even sit up, am nauseated and head is really heavy.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, if you are unsure about something, you should call your doctor to be on the safe side. There's no harm in doing so and it would probably make you feel better. Hope you get well soon.
Avatar m tn After the event I was so worried that I started taking 2x100mg of Doxycycline each day. I had this medicine left over from a trip to asia as it is also a malaria drug. I have now been taking it for 11 days, even if I had caught Chlamydia or Gonorrhea would the drug have cleared it up by now. I have had no symptoms. also would this have cleared up any syphilis infection that I may have picked up.
Avatar m tn I had started weekly Aralen 10 days prior to my departure and took 3 or 4 weekly doses but then stopped while in Belize because of perceived side effects. Two days there was a lot of mosquito exposure but we were out of those areas by evening. 1 week ago I started to experience some malaise and myalgia. 2 days later, while up in a chilly camper for a few minutes developed uncontrollable shaking chills. Fatigue and myalgias continued while camping and when returned home found a fever of 102.2.
5569754 tn?1376854288 So I started the antibiotics yesterday and am suppose to rotate days with two Malaria meds but I don't want to take them. Part of me just wants to try the antibiotics first. Artemisinin and Pyrimethamine and Coartem have to many side effects and I don't want to take them.
Avatar m tn My question is, would the increase in acid reflux and stomach pain be a likely side effect of the doxycycline. I know doxycycline can cause acid reflux or stomach pain right after you take it, but could it cause it many hours later? What about the itchy bumps on my arm? I know doxycycline can make your skin sensitive to light, so might that be a skin reaction caused by it?
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced side effects from this?? I have taken it before but the next day after I took it this time.. I started to get joint pain in knee and elbows real bad with some hand pain..
Avatar n tn indiethestar7 and mike0113, I'm so sorry to hear that doxycycline has had a bad effect on you as well. As soon as I worked out that it was doxycycline causing my hair loss i contacted my dermatologist to let him know what had happened. He told me that hair loss is not a side effect (which i already knew because i never would have taken it if known!) He also said the pharmaceutical company cannot list it as a side effect until they receive a certian percentage of complaints. How ridiculous!
Avatar f tn I do not want to stop taking the doxycycline as I want to ensure I am malaria free (I did get a few mosquito bites on my trip), but the thought of having heart-burn, gas, cramping, and really urgent, loose bowel movements for another three weeks is almost unbearable. Do you have any thoughts? Insight? Suggestions?
