In fact, there would be no harm in discussing the Doxycycline reatment and your concerns about side effects with your vet anyway, and it would be perfectly in order to call the vet's office, ask if there is a time during the day you can speak to your vet when he is not busy. No doubt he will call you back when he has a moment to discuss the treatment with you.
A low dose of steroids can also be added to eliminate or decrease any possible adverse side-effects.
I tried to remove one with tweezers, and it was very tacky (as in sticky) and clearly goes deep under the skin. Part of it broke off but I could still see that the pore was plugged and a day or two later top of the plug was sticking out again. i can't find ANYTHING online that looks like it.
decreased side effects of phenobarbitol while still being effective to control the seizures. This may take a bit of patience because the dose may have to be adjusted several times before the balance is achieved. After the course of doxycycline discuss with your veterinarian what is best for your dog.
My 7 year old male boxer has an extemely low platelet count. We adopted him from a rescue group in Dec 2006. He had a mass cell tumor on his side and I had it removed in July 2007. The tests revealed it was a grade II. At the time of his surgery, his platelet count was 27. He has been fine since his surgery. (Active-loves to play.) I took him for his annual checkup in Jan 2008 and blood work was done to check his platelet count. It was a 12.

I have not yet disposed of them yet as I am still concerned as to whether or not I have the symptoms of Lyme or not and if I should stay on the antiobiotic just in case and suffer what might be the side effects...or go off of it and wonder if the fever and the sore neck/lymph nodes are Lyme Disease. My question is this: can I be having early symptoms of Lyme Disease already?? The Dr.
Most antibiotics are mild, really, compared to some of the NSAIDS and steroids, but some dogs do have sensitive tummy's. Maybe giving it to her in a shot form, bypassing the stomach? I have a basset who has slow digestion and has episodes of vomiting after eating or drinking too fast and my vet gives me Reglan (metoclopramide) 10mg tablets...which funny enough I have for myself as I also have slow digestion and acid reflux.
Welcome to the forum.... Boy, your Vet sure loaded him up w/some dangerous treatments!!! My first thought was he needed his anal glands expressed & that still could be a possibility....During all this, did they express them or just start treating w/antibiotics? POSSIBLE infection does not exist! Once they express the glands, the fluid can tell if infection is present or not! Some of this doesn't make sense! Does he try to lick and bite at his anal area?
-- When the weather is warm, working outdoors or walking in the woods may net you a tiny, blood-sucking hitchhiker - a tick that could carry Lyme disease. And the spiral-shaped bacteria that cause Lyme disease sometimes head for the heart, where they trigger problems that often masquerade as new or worsening heart disease. The August issue of the Harvard Heart Letter tells you how to spot trouble and prevent contact with ticks. Lyme carditis is the heart infection caused by Lyme disease.
Although the majority of experts favor the ingredient for its numerous health benefits, garlic (in rare cases) has been linked to Heinz body anemia in dogs.4 However, the limited professional literature we surveyed provided no definitive warnings regarding the use of garlic… especially in small amounts (as it is here). Next, we find no mention of probiotics… friendly bacteria applied to the surface of the kibble after processing.
Thankfully she was heartworm NEGATIVE in May of 2013. So in reading about lyme vaccine it should be used in healthy dogs...Because of Chloe's hx of hearworm and that treatment ...I'm not sure if she qualifies as 100% healthy...and I remeber having Chloe home the nite of her first of three shots for heartworm...she became so lethargic I could barely wake her....her heart rate was very, very fast, and she felt cold to me...I thought she was surely going into shock..
After 6 mos of various treatments with no avail, my vet tried a drug usually used to treat skin diseases in dogs. The drug is Atopica 25mg. My cat was given 1 tablet twice a day initially, then lesser quantities. After 6 weeks, my cat was cured. I continued to give 1 tablet twice a week for 3 weeks and then stopped. It's now 1 1/2 years later and the disease has not returned. My cat is now happy and healthy. Hope this helps.
I hope that I can help someone since I know first hand what it's like to have an undiagnosed neuro problem. I have been in the woods my entire adult life walking my dogs etc.. In 1992 I noticed 3 bullseye rashes on my rib cage. I never heard of lyme and was not really too concerned because the rashes didn't hurt, itch or anything. Long story short. I started getting sick. One thing after another...

Stacy......I'm not familiar with these particular Chicken Jerky Strips, but you must be very careful...Check your package...Although it will lead you to believe that they are US made, check closely.....Look at the Tiny print...Check every inch of the package....If you see a "MADE IN CHINA" anywhere, then you may have found your culprit! These are DANGEROUS and you must throw them away, forever!!!!!! DO NOT risk it!!!
Cefdinir, Doxycycline, and Azithromycin along with Nystatin and probiotics to help combat the side effects of the antibiotics. Is this outdated to prescribe the Doxy at this stage? If I have it, I've had it for at least 6 months (my first really horrible go round) but more likely up to 10 years (when I first started having mild to moderate symptoms and running a fever most of the time). He did want me to supplement this Rx plan with some herbal type supplements, also.
I'm feeling strong enough now to do the antibiotics, but before I dial up the doc for an appointment, I'm wondering if it's possible my body killed the bugs already. Can't find anything in the literature about the persistence of Ehrlichia ... Any ideas? Thanks!
A little history: I lived in New England in Mass, Ct, and VT in hot bed of Lyme until 1977. Of course Lyme was virtually unknown then so maybe it was a secret bed. We spent our childhood playing in fields and woods with no thought of anything except avoiding yellow jacket nest and staying on our horses backs :) I was bitten by a lot of dog ticks, and took them off the dogs, gleefully dumping the flailing things into a can of gas.

I never saw a tick at the time of the rash but I was walking in the woods, along side of a river in grass up to my neck. I walked here 4 times a week with my dogs. I wore shorts at the time. I woke up one day and noticed 3 bullseye rashes across my left rib cage. It was the strangest rash I had ever seen. I had never even heard of lyme. It was a long time ago (1992). The rash lasted a month or so and went away.
Her joints look horrible. What the sun does in lupus patients is it causes an immune response to occur in your body, thus causing the ANA level to spike. I can spend time in the sun (just a short period) and might not feel the effects the next day, but usually the 2nd or 3rd day after sun exposure. It makes me feel tired, achy, joint pain, weak muscles. I also get the malar rash from just being outside. My face gets magenta red. Then in a day or two, I get skin erruptions.
Thank you They are willing to give me antidepression meds but nothing for anxiety.I tried one antidepressant but the side effects made everything worse and I couldn't sleep. She said that it would help with anxiety as well....... My thyroid is barely functioning at the moment. Doc first took me of all meds because it was going hyper and then back on again but it's still very low. I've had anxiety in the past when first diagnosed with hypo thyroidism but nothing like this.
I am taking the meds, getting shot in my butt, stomach sore, gunk dripping out of places I don't want it to drip from, sick from medicine side effects..emotional to no end...he will never understand that, so please let me do what I need to do to relax and take my mind off of things...I ended up crying my self to sleep last night...sometimes I feel like I am going to self destruct!! Okay...I feel better now...thanks for hearing me out!! Love to you all!!
I just had a look at the medication you are now on that has helped your chronic hives... Ummm there are ALOT of side effects with that drug. It looks pretty damn scary to me! Did you get any side effects from it?
well.. I can't really afford to go on daily suppressive therapy. Anti Viral meds are extremely expensive, as I'm sure anyone dealing with this knows. I'm sure there are probably some unwelcome side effects of taking daily medication as well. As for "what else is also going on" in the case that I continue to have these outbreaks frequently, I'm not sure what else to be looking for. I tested for all other std's, and tested negative.
HI there For the past year and a half I have felt my joint areas degenerating - there is a lot of cracking in all my joints at all time at this stage. All day every day and night. It started in my shoulders and has moved all over my body. I also had testicular cancer, and one treatment of chemo and syphillis last year. Rheuamtology tests have comeup negative and doctors are at a loss for what is going on. Am fully recovered at this time from both.
On top of that, he collapsed the middle vault of my nose, so the right side caved in. I already had that fixed by an amazing surgeon but I know I have to get more follow up work on top of all the damage. After three requests he still wont release my file and many of the important pages from the hospital records out of his file have been copied so lightly, they are unreadable. I dont know if I'll ever get proper information from him.
I will also be put on Lupron in May and then we will start our second IVF attempt in June. I'm very excited and hopeful! Wish you all the best of luck and will keep you in my prayers!
BTW, I wanted to mention also, since changing my diet, the uncomfortable pressure I used to feel on my right side (in my abdominal area) has completely vanished. For a while I thought I might have some serious issue like stomach cancer or something ripped or torn inside me (due to body building and weight training). Now I see it was just due to my diet and most likely my intestines not getting a break and/or being inflamed or something. Since changing my diet, that has gone away.
